Bitter Orange is a product that is used to help discourage pets to not chew on certian things i.e. cords. My friend was telling me today about using this when she had a ferret and I was wondering if anyone here knew if it was safe enough to use with rabbits?

Hmm, well I know that the bitter apple is OK, but most bunnies love the stuff.  As for the orange, I have used orange oil and it keeps my bunnies away, they hate the smell and it works GREAT as a furniture polish for wood! The same goes for lemon oil too. Oh, I should add that the oil I use is 100% pure and organic.  The organic makes a difference with the oil because the rind is used to express the oil and pesticides, fungicides etc. are sprayed on the peel and I can’t be sure that they wash them properly to get rid of the residue.

Remember that bunnies chew on cords not because they want to chew on something but it is an instinctual action used to remove vines, roots and other hanging things that they might get tangled on if they were to try and to hop an escape. Even with the bitter orange or lemon oil, they may still snip it – they just won’t sit there and dine on it. But it might be worth trying.

my bunnies really like to lick bitter apple, so my guess is that the same would go for bitter orange.
