Hi, all. My rabbit, Lambda, is usually incredibly well behaved. Barely touches wires, never nips, and has recently started to come around to pets (yay!). However, recently he’s been chewing on the molding on my walls, and it’s driving me crazy. I’m renting this place for the summer and I really don’t want to lose my deposit, so I’m kind of desperate here.

He’s about five months old. I know it’s probably his teenage years and hormones and he’s getting neutered in two weeks, but that doesn’t change the fact he’s ripping the walls apart! He really, really hates being caged (he even hates doors), so I would rather not do a large x-pen. I’ve tried blocking some of the walls, but I can’t block all of them, even in a smaller room. It’s a lot to block lol.

If anyone has a non-permanent solution that I can do short term (only about a month longer) that would be great. Thanks!

They sell Bitter Apple spray in pet stores. You spray it where you don’t want your pets chewing and it supposedly tastes bad enough that they won’t want to chew there anymore, but some bunnies (mine included) don’t mind it.

I used perfume to spray the baseboards and other places my bun likes to chew. He hated it. After a few tastes he lost interest. For things I can’t really spray, like the carpet and books, I say “no” and give him a toy instead when he starts chewing, but you have to be persistent with that.

I found flat pieces of cardboard and leaned/taped (the back where he cannot eat the tape) it against my walls/baseboards, that way he can chew away, but my walls and baseboards stay safe. =)

Isabel’s rabbit passed during surgery this week. I am going to lock this thread. She has a thread for him in the Rainbow Bridge section if you would like to give your condolences there.
