My 6 month old Holland lop developed a small what looks like a red bite on his ear about a week ago. Today there’s 3 spots. His behavior is the exact same but it does seem to hurt slightly if I try to look at them. Any ideas on what it might be or home remedies? I’m not sure if it’s something that necessitates a vet visit or not. I wanted to upload a picture for you all but it won’t let me

If it hurts him, yes he needs a vet visit. Sounds like mites or he is biting himself/another rabbit is biting him if you have one.

Does he seem to scratch his ears or shake his head more often than usual?

No he doesn’t seem to be acting any different than normal,no shaking or scratching. He’s my only bun. I’m honestly not sure if it hurts him or if he’s just annoyed at me trying to get a better look at his ear. If it were mites how would you tell/what would you do about it?

Mites need to be treated by a vet. As far as Im aware, they cant be seen but youll start seeing red and/or otherwise irritated skin where the mites are attacking your bun. Sadly, mites are fairly easy to get in some cases (for example, mites can travel in hay unnoticed).

It’s better if there are pictures so that people can help identify the issue better. Make sure the pictures are less than 300kb and don’t have weird symbols as the title (I normally just name it “1” or “2” to make it easier).

It’s probably still best to get him to a vet because it doesn’t sound good if the “bites” are increasing. Some mites cannot be seen by the human eye so if it’s really mites, the vet will be able to examine and treat it.
