Bite on bunny

Hi everyone,

I’m new to the forum but most likely sticking around as there is so much useful advice! We have a newly bonded pair of buns. They hit it off pretty quickly and were moved in together after only 1 week. They have only (almost) fought twice since then, and nothing serious – we seperated them before it could get that way.

They’ve been getting along really great! But about 2 nights ago, after I went to bed, they started fighting. I have NO idea how it started – but I had a suspicion it had something to do with the bunny igloo. They both like to get in there together but I had noticed lately that they were getting territorial over it. After the fight, I took the igloo away and they haven’t had any kind of problem since then. There was fur all over the x-pen and I checked them both out, there didn’t seem to be any issues, no blood anywhere.

However, I didn’t notice until the next day that Bun, my girl, was bit by the new bunny, Clyde. I checked them again, thoroughly, and this is the only wound. My question is in relation to a worry that it would become abcessed. I’m debating whether or not she should go to the vet. There is no pus or blood, it seems to be healing itself, it’s scabbed over…

I’m seeking advice from anyone who’s had a similar situation, I’m sure plenty of you have had something of the sort, especially with multiple buns. I attached a photo of it to see what everyone else thinks — it’s very small and the fur is already growing back.

It’s difficult to really tell from the photo – I think if it was me, I would just watch her closely and especially note if she is not eating and check it daily.

It’s good you took the igloo away as well – it’s funny that some rabbits really aren’t good at sharing things.

Yeah, it’s hard to get a good photo of it because it’s small, and also underneath the fur, and Bun doesn’t like me holding her down too long to take a good pic! That’s kinda what I’ve been doing though, is watching her. She’s not acting any way out of the ordinary.

i would just rub a little dab of neosporin into it twice a day for a few days so it doesnt get infected.
every one of my buns has gotten into a scuffle with each other at least once, and that’s what i did.
unless it’s an ear bite-thru it probably wont even leave a scar.

You were right! She healed right up – no scar or anything. Very fast too! I guess I got a little freaked. When we adopted our boy, there was a bunny at the shelter who had a bad abscess that started from a bite. The volunteer there showed it to us to educate us and make us aware, but I guess she made me paranoid!!
