Bird toys for baby bun?

Hi, everyone!

So I’ve had Julie for a couple of weeks now (she was about 8 weeks when my boyfriend bought her for me to be Jakes girlfriend). I’m noticing she REALLY likes toys that make noise (barrel rollers, jingle balls, etc.) Since she’s still litter training (and she’s super small), I leave her in her cage while I’m at work. I switch out her toys every day to ensure she doesn’t get bored. However, I’m running outta options! Jake has always been a “if I can’t eat it I don’t care” kinda bun and is content with the standard toys and chews.

Anyways. Would it be safe for me to give Julie plastic bird toys (jingle balls, hanging jingle mirrors, etc.)? I don’t think she would chew them; she hasn’t chewed anything in her cage yet (except hay and pellets lol).

Aw, cute! Thor is also all about jingle toys She has a few bird toys. They are safe for buns, and should be safe to chew on as well since birds also tend to chew on toys they are made from natural materials. Only things I would avoid for are sharp edges (like exposed wires), and toys that incorporate cuttle bone. Its a chew for birds to get more calcium in their diet, but it is bad for buns to have too much calcium.

As an aside, Thor also has several cat toys that jingle and some jingly dog balls. Plus I made a homemade toy by tying some small bells I bought at the craft store to a pine cone. The pine cone is her favorite

Some bird toys are fine Avoid toys that use leather or rope. In regards to plastic, I personally feel it’s fine if it’s not the cheap, fine plastic (usually the smaller toys made for cockatiels and budgies) and instead go for the more heavy duty plastics and acrylic birds toys that are designed to stand up to tough play. The cheap brittle plastics may splinter if your bun chews on them. Plastic baby keys are also a good choice as they stand up to chewing quite well and make noise as bunny tosses them around. I do use the plastic jingle balls (like the cat toys) but only as a supervised toy in their play area and not kept inside their cage, since the plastic is quite brittle. Keep an eye out for sharp edges on plastic and bells, and choking hazards from the little round bells that come inside jingle balls if they’re broken open. You should also be able to find larger plastic jingle balls that are more heavy duty in the baby section of kmart, target or similar stores.

The Petco website still has it available! I also found some solid plastic jingle cat toys for her as well, because she loves all things that jingle. I keep wanting to get her baby keys, but I always forget when I’m out and about
