› Forum › HOUSE RABBIT Q & A › Bindi’s Sick Now!!!!!! Very worried.
Now I’m freaking out. I think he might have ate some of that stuffing! And there are no vets to help me!!! What should I do? I can’t be sure that’s what it is. It’s 11:30 and there was a few dozen poops in his litter box since 8:00. So he’s pooped quite a bit since 8. The last vet I called (my clinic is closed for the day) is allergic to rabbits! That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard!!!!! Please help!
Is Bindi still eating? The biggest concern would be if Bindi is not eating, and has not been pooping. It definitely sounds like he is still pooping, has he been eating some pellets or hay? And how is he acting? What is leading you to think that he is sick?
I know it can be very stressful but try not to panic too much, if you can tell us a bit more about how he is acting maybe we can give you some tips to help until you can see a vet.
He ate all his breakfast and hay at 8:00. I’m worried because when I fed him breakfast I found one of his plush toys had been torn open. It doesn’t look like he ate much, if any of the stuffing, but I’m scared he’s blocked up. I’m hoping it’s just a huge coincidence.
I checked on him at 11:00 and he didn’t want a treat or any other foods I’ve offered. I gave him some simethicone. I opened his cage and he hopped around for about 15 minutes but now he’s in his house, laying down. Hasn’t pooped since I changed his box at 11:00.
It’s been a few hours, how is he now?
My bunnies do not really eat too much after breakfast either. Keep trying to tempt him with greens until he seems more interested in his food or you can get a vet appointment.
OH MY!! I so hope Bindi is okay. Give us an update when you can.
{{Bindi}} Keep us posted puffy!!
How is Bindi doing today? Has he eaten or pooped anymore?

(((Bindi Loo!)))
I’m awfully worried too, guys. I checked Puffy’s profile and it says she hasn’t been on at all since 3/21 at about 9 AM. Oh Lord, please let Bindi be okay! *wrings hands*
Does anyone know how to get in touch with her besides the forums? 0_o
I just wish there were something I could do. ![]()
I hope Bindi Loo’s better. It seems strange that there’s no update… Sending healing vibes to BL…
Sorry to make you guys worry! My comp got a major virus attack and is out of commission and I had to wait until I could get to another computer. Bindi is okay but VERY lucky to be alive. What a weekend from you know where.
Later the day he got sick, I was able to get him into an emergency clinic in the afternoon. He got x-rayed and it showed his stomach to be extremely distended with gas and matter. No visible blockage but he said with something like cotton fibers it would be very hard to see anyways. He got fluids and pain meds.
When we got home and through the evening he got much worse. Very lethargic and grinding his teeth. His tummy felt huge and became really hard. Because of a stupid feud going on in the vet community the emerg vet said he could only see me the once or he could get into trouble. There is nothing worse than seeing your bun in pain and being totally helpless.
We started a rotation of critical care, simethicone and tummy massages. It was rough because he is extremely hard to force feed. One thing I credit to his recovery is we had some iv fluids and a butterfly catheter from the vet the last time he was sick (we didn’t give it to him last time because he got better before we needed to). Ricky put the needle in him and we gave him some fluids. It was really hard and I’m so thankful Ricky was able to do it. We did this twice in the almost 30 hours he didn’t eat or poop. We stayed up with him all night. He just sat on the couch all night, off and on grinding his teeth. We were convinced it was the end. We spent the night comforting him and saying our goodbyes. I knew it was close because he was acting like my others before they died. This was so heartbreaking. He kept looking at me and I swear he was trying to tell me something. I really felt it. He was telling me he wasn’t done yet. When the morning came around I thought he made it through the night for a reason. He was so brave with the pain and he didn’t give up. We continued the treatments all day. Around 3 pm on Sunday he took a piece of pineapple and lettuce. I started cryng I was so happy. He was on the floor on a blanket near the couch and Ricky was on the couch and said he kept smelling something like rotten cabbage. He thought Bindi was passing gas. Eventually I lifted up Bindi and under him was a huge cow patty. I know runny poo is bad in rabbits but I thought it was at least good that something was coming out. Withing the next 24 hours his poo was pretty much back to normal although he didn’t have his energy or appettite back to normal. I’m very happy to report today he gobbled up all his meals and did some binkies last night. What an ordeal. He is a very strong little guy to pull through that. I was so scared because I know the longer the digestive system doesn’t move the less likely a recovery. He didn’t eat or poop for about 30 hours.
So we don’t know if it was a blockage, if it was, he beat the odds and survived it. I read recovery with and without surgery is very unlikely. I felt terrible also for making a joke about him killing his hippo. No more cloth anything for him. I kept telling Bindi that if he got better I would make him his condo cage this weekend so I gotta get busy on that.
Thanks for all the concern guys. I knew you would all be worried about the no update and I felt terrible but I couldn’t get online until now. I’m hoping to get my computer fixed this week. I’m just glad to let you guys know he’s okay.
Oh wow, sounds very stressful – so glad he’s ok! We’d probably have developed stomach ulcers worrying about you and Bindi even more if you had updated!
Thank Goodness he came thru it ok. Sounds like quite an ordeal. Thanks for the update, relax and rest now and many nose rubs to Bindi from me. Phew!!
So glad to hear Bindi’s back to his binkying self!
Glad Bindi is better. I don’t understand that about the vet though…who would he get in trouble with. Is there somewhere you can report this ridiculous feud too like the Vet Society in Canada or something or the state board.
I’ve had a rabbit with a blockage that went for 2 weeks without eating or pooping – we did threaten him with surgery and he finally started eating. It is very stressful dealing with a sick rabbit – I totally understand.
Oh thank goodness!
Oh how awful for everyone, but I am SO relieved that he’s better now.
Oh LPT, I am so glad to hear that Bindi is better, and many hugs to both you and Bindi for making it through all this! (A hero’s medal to you both and Ricky too!)
Wow…you’ve made me take a long, hard look at the few plush toys I let my bunnies play with. They are made for them, but still….
So I am assuming the foreign material (if there was any) has been eliminated from Bindi’s system? I don’t think I’d rest until I had dissected that ‘cow patty’. 0_o
A vet feud? How ludicrous! And dangerous for your bunnies and any other animals in a life and death situation like that! I agree, something should be reported somehow.
I’m so glad to hear that he is feeling better! What a tough situation – I know how stressful that can be. And I know how weirdly exciting it is to see a bunny eat lettuce after a blockage episode. I practically had a parade when Raymond pooped for the first time after going through a stasis episode.
Oh my! WHEW!!!!!! I am so relieved to hear the good news. Keep us updated on how the new condo goes!
Well with regard to the vet feud, here’s what the vet told me. He opened a vet clinic which does some regular hours patients and also referrals for special surgeries. The clinic also has a 24 hour emergency clinic. I took Stormy there once during a statis at 12:00 at night. It cost a fortune but he got really good care. Now apparently, the other vets in the area are freaking out at this clinic because they are stealing all the emergency patients. Now this clinic can only see their own patients during emergencies. He took Bindi only because he felt bad for me knowing most other vets don’t do rabbits. I’m so glad he did. Once again it cost a FORTUNE for the visit but at least they were able to help me and the vet was very knowledgeable.
This REALLY peeves me off! There are numerous times I’ve needed an after hours vet and none of the vets working emergency hours do rabbits. The vet clinic or the vets working can never help me. Stupid vets. They can be so terrible greedy and it’s the animals that suffer.
LPT Seriously soooo relieved Bindi is good and doing well. I can just picture you and Rick saying your goodbyes and hearts breaking-how awful!!!
On the vet feud. I know you may not want to burn bridges, especially in a smaller area. I tend to go ‘guns a blazing’ at any problem soooooo here’s a few links on how to make a complaint against vets-they may help you?-I don’t want to suggest it but that’s what I’d do (cuz I’m like that

Thanks, I wil check out those sites. The vets need to get their butts in gear and fix this situation.
Bindi went to our regular clinic yesterday (another ear infection, but just mild – drops prescribed) and I told my vet about how when Bindi was sick that weekend the receptionist said they couldn’t take him. She was fuming because apparently she was on call all that weekend. She said if that ever happens again that I should demand to speak to the vet on call and hear the situation from them. I think I got someone in trouble, but it would have saved me a lot of money to go through my clinic so I don’t care.
Good!!! That’s good to know, someone should get in trouble!
