        Hey everyone,

I know I don’t post on here very often, but I’m a daily reader and I enjoy reading and viewing everyone’s bunny pictures.

So I am wondering if anyone’s here is worried Bill H.R.669 Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act being passed???…. It’s a bill to stop Breeding, owning, and transporting non-native species.

I don’t know if rabbits are on the list but since hamsters are on the list I’m pretty sure our rabbits are too since most of our breeds are non-native. So I was just wondering how you guys felt about it?  Also how it will affect your love and passion in the years to come since all stores will feel the effects.

P.S. I’ve add a video about the topic from a very well known reptile breeder in the states.

Well it does not include from what I can tell among others dogs, cats, and domesticated rabbits. There’s a list about what they consider clearly domesticated.

I don’t think that video really gives alot of information but my feeling is that there are many animals out there that are sold as pets that clearly should not be. I would have to investigate further as to why they want this bill but I imagine they have very good reasons for this.

Please don’t get me wrong, as a bunny, reptile, small animal pet owner, I think that there should be rules and regulations about what people are alowed to keep as pets. There is a lot of info on the internet about this bill. But they are going after small animals, fish, birds…ect…..they are taking it a bit far…..

Here’s the list so far on the bill of animals that are “not included” in the bill as nonnative wildlife:

                (D) does not include any cat (Felis catus), cattle or oxen (Bos taurus), chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus), dog (Canis lupus familiaris), donkey or ass (Equus asinus), domesticated members of the family Anatidae (geese), duck (domesticated Anas spp.), goat (Capra aegagrus hircus), goldfish (Carassius auratus auratus), horse (Equus caballus), llama (Lama glama), mule or hinny (Equus caballus x E. asinus), pig or hog (Sus scrofa domestica), domesticated varieties of rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus), or sheep (Ovis aries), or any other species or variety of species that is determined by the Secretary to be common and clearly domesticated.

This is the first I’ve heard of this so I really don’t have an opinion yet.

Gee, on the list they basically said we can only keep meat/fur/labour animals o.o
Maybe that’s why they’re against hamsters and reptiles? they’re basically only for hobby..
If this bill was passed it would certainly do more harm then good -_-

Well, I think it’s not because of hobby but because of danger to native wildlife and plants – there have been many instances where wildlife has been harmful – for instance the wild rabbit in Australia and there was some snake that was accidentally imported in some cargo somewhere else (heard about this but cannot think of it right off) that wreaked havoc on the wildlife of that country.

I have a small problem taking the word of someone who cares about animals while standing in a snake room where their lives are spent living in 1’x3′ plastic tubs.

could it have something to do with the chimpanzee that attacked a woman in connecticut?

Hey! Lets trash the economy some more. Oh wait they probably think it will help the economy because it will force hundreds of thousands of people to pay for euthanasia.
Living in Michigan and being a conservationist I fully understand the ramifications of invasive species.
The Emerald ash borer, Gypsy moth, Gobi, Earthworm, Bee mite, Norwegian rat and German cockroach just to name a few. But if this chunk of legislative crap where to be passed, it will only hurt. Create criminal overnight, jobs lost, increased instances of depression.
