I recently had to move my bun from free roam to a pen. He is around 2 pounds and pretty tiny. The one I have him set up in is a pen made of NIC grids, it’s 2×3 feet. Is this enough space? I can’t add shelves as he has pretty bad balance, he has fallen off chairs and such that he’s jumped on to in the past and I don’t want him to hurt himself. He gets around 2 hours of time to roam free in the room a day.

          Hi there, welcome

That’s pretty small, especially with only getting 2 hours of free-roam time a day. He might be ok with some low shelves… which would add something for him to hide under as well. I’m curious about his balance, has he had an ear infection in the past? Or EC?

2 hours is not very much time, can you give him a bit more?

2×3 ft isn’t even nearly adequate tbh. And a bunny needs way more than 2 hours out of cage/pen time.

Can you keep him in your room and let the pen be open for him to come and go? Or can you find some way to make the space bigger?

I have my boys in similar cages, but they also get about 5-6 hours each of free roam time. Even if that free roam time is overnight it is still better than nothing.

He had an ear infection when I got him that left him with bad balance and a slight head tilt. It doesn’t affect him too much but I have seen him fall off the shelf he used to have and I was so afraid he’d land wrong and break something.

Overnight is a good idea, I didn’t think of that! It would make his roam time more like 7ish hours. I’m hoping he should be back to complete free roam by March (I have to contain currently him because of relatives temporarily staying with us who are not a fan of him).

Thank you all for the responses! You’ve been super helpful

I wouldn’t really recommend putting a bunny in a 2×3 as that’s really small. Especially adding the fact that she only has 2 hours of playtime. People recommend at least 4 hours. I would try to make your bunny’s cage a little bit bigger especially since your taking away the luxury of free roaming and then putting her in a small cage. ?❤️

I’m sure he’ll love the extra roaming time

                    Glad that’s an option
