        Hi guys,

The search function is down, so hopefully I’m not missing a great post on this topic. If I am, please point me to it!

I adopted 2 rabbits (an angora and a lop/mix/unknown with short hair) over the summer and have been struggling with keeping the floors clean. We have wall-to-wall carpet (which the buns love!) and my vacuum just isn’t doing the job. The hose quickly gets clogged, mostly with the hay they track around. So, I end up crawling around picking most of it up by hand. Which, of course, defeats the purpose of vacuuming and is really annoying.

Does anyone have a vacuum that really works well for them? I’m thinking something without a hose (to avoid the clogging issues) but I don’t know if that would just end up with a clog somewhere else.

        Thanks!

          Hi there,

I’ve found some other threads on this, and I think the consensus has been that shop vac’s are the only thing that can really handle hay well! I think a lot of people will use the shop vac for all the big stuff, then a more standard vac for the finer particles.

FYI, while the search function is down, if you search in google “binkybunny” + whatever you’d like to search, google will search within the site for you. Here’s some threads where vacuums were discussed in detail

Thanks, Dana – on both counts! I was thinking a shop vac too, but it’s noisy and awkward. I’m hoping I can find something to reduce the work – I’m not the greatest housekeeper as it is! And I’ll def try using google search that way.
            Thanks!

Ah I feel your pain! In my moms house we used an aeg pet vacuum, which was very effective with hairs. Although to be honest that was a bit out of my price range, I bought a henry xtra for my own home, which is also carpets covered in hay!
So far i haven’t gad any issues with it clogging, and it gets the hairs up well enough imo. Granted I end up vacuuming every 2nd day at tge least
