I was wondering about big cages, and what ones are best. Please leave links, or names of cages. I need a new cage, if I do ever get a new bunny. I am actually in contact with a breeder. I would definetly rescue, but, I don’t have a rescue anywhere near here. But they are building a humane society here. There will be bunnieesss!!!! See, I live in the country, and here, many people, abuse bunnies. They don’t really know. But keeping them in a tiny cage, never feed hay or veggies, and no excersize, can’t be good!! SO I am sure there will be some bunnies!

Also, the update is that my bunny run is making progress! YAY (For spring and summer) I will post pics later or when it’s finished it is 5 ft. tall, and 10 ft. long I am very happy!! And I was wondering what organic soil is. lol!!!!!! I have no idea… I am ashamed.

        Thanks for listening Binky out!!

This is the cage I started with, its the biggest I could find at the time but the price has gone up $40 it seems

Now I have a dog exercise pen attached so this is the set up now

I wish I just had two exercise pens but the cage is useful for herding him into his carrier or locking him up when the apartment people come in for their every 3 month bug spraying.

Honestly, I use a store bought cage and it isBARELY big enough for a 3lb rabbit. In fact, if it wasn’t for her extremely laid back personality, it would not be big enough. And she gets tons of time out of it (where she promptly sits again!). Consider building your cage. Either just use an expen, NIC, or maybe something else if you are creative!

This is my cage. There are some things I really do love about it. The doors are amazing. Easy to open, big enough, and secure! It is taller than most Superpet cages. She doesn’t use the second level at all, but she can stand all the way up, which is nice. It is on wheels. It is always nice when something is on wheels. The only downside to this is that it needs to be on carpet or a rug so that it makes less noise, though that is probably true of any plastic based cage. With the wheels it might be a little tall for a less confident bunny to jump in and out of. This could easily be remedied by weaving a grass mat through the bars to make a semi ramp, or just attaching something else that is solid and has traction. If you purchase this cage, it needs to be paired with either a bunny proof room and at least 4 hours of free time a day, or an expen. Again, I think it is rather expensive compared to what you could build, but I also obviously understand the convenience of having one since I have one!

I bought a pet store cage for my bun originally, but then quickly got an xpen. If I had to start over I would not even bother with a typical cage, as they truly aren’t big enough at all. An xpen is just as functional and way bigger, plus more mobile and easy to store. Now of course Hazel is free range throughout my whole apartment, but I use the xpen/cage setup when I go to my parents’ house and bring Hazel along.

But overall I’d say that the xpen is cheaper, more easily stored/transported, and bigger than the cage, which was more expensive. If I had to go back I would have just started with an xpen. But now that Hazel is free range I don’t have to worry about any of this business anymore, lol!

Agreed. Just go with an xpen. Easier to clean, and a lot more space for bunny

I don’t get why store bought cages are so RIDICULOUSLY expensive.  The material is really not that much different than NIC cube panels and some plastic for the tray.. why on earth do they cost so much??  Out of the very few on the market that are spacious enough for rabbits, they’re usually at least $100+.
