so I’m going to be switching my rabbit’s pellet food soon. I’ve been doing a lot of research, and want to go with Oxbow T adult food cause it seems to be the healthiest, but it’s really expensive. I was just wondering what’s wrong with Kaytee? (their prodiet food seems ok). as well as what’s the best rabbit brand?

As long as any product seems fine and has good reviews, then go ahead and use it. I use Purina Rabbit Chow and the pellets are good quality.

I’ve no experience with Kaytee but I’ve not heard good things about the brand tbh.

You need a good quality, plain pellet. I wouldn’t rely on reviews – not everyone knows/cares about feeding their rabbits healthy food. Oxbow is great and I’ve heard excellent things about Sherwood. Even though they are a little pricier, they should still last a while as you don’t need to provide a large amount.

Personally, I use Protexin which is a probiotic pellet. Roughly a teaspoon a day, per rabbit. I also give one or two FibaFirst sticks which are great.

Kaytee isn’t really that good, and neither is Purina tbh. Kaytee is known for putting unnecessary things in their pellet mixes like seeds, corn, and dried fruit. The breeder gave me Purina Complete for my boys when I got them over a year ago, and at least back then it was made with corn as the primary ingredient along with some other stuff I wouldn’t want them to have, so I stopped giving it to them. Oxbow and Sherwood are both really amazing products. Oxbow may be a bit pricey, but if you’re only giving 1/4 cup a day it really lasts a while. I give each boy 2 tablespoons of pellets a day and the whole bag lasts me about 1.5-2 months.

Honestly I would only recommend Kaytee if you are looking for cheap litter. I second getting the biggest bag of oxbow pellets you can find. My bunnies take about 3-4 months to go through a bag.

I agree, kaytee isn’t a good quality brand(Walmart special) you need a brand that hat Timothy hay as the first ingredient such as oxbow or some European brands. It may cost more but it’s way better quality and make sure you don’t feed them a lot of it.

I use and LOVE Sherwood pellets. I use the Sherwood Professional Adult Rabbit food. It’s 46$ for a 19-pound box. Sounds expensive, but its a LOT. Plus, the professional formula is meant for rabbits that eat hay well and is only given in small quantities. I have two bunnies and so far this food lasts the longest of anything else. Plus its soy free and crazy healthy.

I hesitated getting Oxbow as well since it’s the most expensive brand here, but after calculating it’s actually not too bad since I only feed 2 tablespoons a day. I suppose sometimes it’s good to think in the long term – by getting healthy pellets, the risk of bunny falling sick reduces and so does the potential vet cost (which is usually far more expensive than pellets).
