        Hi,

I’m a new bunny mommy and have been reading up on diet and the recommendations for protein, fiber, calcium, etc. for bunnies.  I understand fairly well the recommendations but I’m wondering what is the best pellet out there for growing bunnies.  We are feeding her a variety of greens now (she’s been living with us for almost 3 weeks now and is probably about 10 weeks old) and lots of timothy and oat hay with a little alfalfa.  She’s doing well, with good poops.  I just want to make sure she’s getting everything she needs for growth.  Thanks so much for your help!!

        Best of Health,

        Natalie

          Welcome Boo Boo Bunny!

Alfalfa is fine for a baby bunny. Greens you do have to be careful with when introducing at a young age a babies are prone to digestive upsets since they have yet  to fully develop the amount of needed gut bacteria to digest some things. Normally it is recommended to start at about 12 weeks, one veggie/green, small amounts, at a time)

Oxbow sells a brand an alfalfa based pellet for young bunnies Oxbow 15/23, and then you’d need to switch over to a Timothy based pellet as your bunny reached adulthood. Oxbow is the only kind I have used in the last 9 years. Though others may be able to help with advice from other brands and resources.

Thank you so much for the response 🙂 I still have the pellets that she was eating with her original owner was suggested when we got her … Vita Vittles 🙁 yucky stuff it looks like, so I knew I needed to switch. I’ll get the Oxbow and slowly incorporate it. I greatly appreciate the response and this site!!!!!!

Just want to say welcome, Natalie.
I love Oxbow products, and starting on the 15/23 will make it easy to transfer over to the Bunny Basics T later, which is their pellet for adults.

                Welcome Natalie!

I too love the oxbow products. I’ve sat in petstore isles comparing all the brands they carry and oxbow still has the highest quality pellets available. I have a almost 4 month old and she’s been on the 15/23 …she LOVES IT!!! Bee had some trouble with upset tummy from greens but she’s fine now. We would love to see some photos of your little one when you get a chance! We are all bunny addicts and can’t live a day without seeing a photo of someones cute bun bun!
