        Hello again,

I live in New Zealand and the only bedding provided here are aspen and pine, and they’re both from the brand called Kaytee. Other small websites do sell Carefresh bedding, but I’m worried because I’m not sure if they’re really safe to buy from. Plus the bedding that they sell is quite expensive.

I would order Carefresh bedding from Amazon but I’m worried it’ll take a long time to get here due to the pandemic, plus the shipping fee.

Is Aspen or Pine good bedding to use for rabbits?

Bedding? Or litter for the litter box? Rabbits do not need bedding. If you want something soft, you can use fleece to line their enclosure. As for the litter box, pine pellets (Feline Pine, Equine Pine, etc) or wood stove pellets are acceptable. Paper products like Yesterday’s News or Carefresh are also acceptable.

Do not use pine or cedar shavings. They contain phenols, which can cause liver problems with prolonged use. Aspen is safe to use, but I personally wouldn’t use aspen shavings since shavings are messy. I think you can get aspen pelleted litter though.

In a pinch you can also use a nice fluffy layer of just hay. You go through hay faster but it simplifies things. 🙂
