I adopted a 4yr old fuzzy lop named Leah about 4 months ago! She’s super healthy and happy and she’s already gotten pretty comfortable with me. I recently started working another job and found that I’m not home as much now.

I was thinking about getting her a companion so she isn’t as lonely. That being said she’s pretty territorial so I don’t think she’d like sharing her space with another rabbit and due to having an apartment I really dont have the space to set up another Cage and play pen for a second rabbit.

So I was thinking about getting a kitten or cat? I read a few articles saying they could be good companions. Does anyone have any tips on bonding rabbits and kittens or cats?

Or other animals who might make better companions?

If there’s a local rescue, it might be possible to do some rabbit speed dating! If you think she’s lonely, an experienced rabbit rescue will give you the best chance of getting a good second rabbit to bond who will get along with her.

I don’t have any experience with cats and rabbits, I’ve also heard it can be possible, but would definitely be careful depending on the cat’s personality.

Rabbits don’t form true bonds with other animals, so another rabbit would be the best choice.

Some rabbits (very rarely) don’t get along with other rabbits, so they might enjoy the companionship of a gentle cat, but it wouldn’t be a true bond really.

Is she spayed? If not, she’ll be less territorial if you get her spayed and it has the added bonus of eliminating the risk of uterine cancer. I have cats and rabbits and my first rabbit forced my old fat cat to cuddle with him all the time. Then I got him a bunny companion and he forgot the cat even exists.  He 10,000% prefers the company of other rabbits. Based on my own experiences I would say she’ll be much happier if you can get her a rabbit.

They said if you just can’t get her a rabbit, you don’t want a kitten. You are thinking of getting her a companion because you won’t be home as much as and kittens are insane, energetic and learning to hunt. If you go with a cat, for the rabbit’s safety it would be best to get one that’s at least 2 years old and preferably ask at the shelter for the most chill cat they have. My youngest cat likes bunnies and taught them to do a running/chasing game with her, but if her personality were just a little different it wouldn’t be a game to her and she would hurt them. My third cat has no respect for rabbits and required extensive training for him to understand they are not to be hunted, and he is not even remotely friendly with them.
