Belle is driving me mad!!

Ive had Belle for a month and a half now, and she’s still TOTALLY un litter trained!! I am baffled, she’s my first female bunny so maybe she’s just different … but with Barney and Biscuit I literally barely had to train them at all – they were brilliant!!! She prefers to sleep in her litter tray, she wees all round the cage not just in one place, she wees on the floor when I let her out … as I live in rented carpeted accomodation I’m finding that a REAL challenge and feel bad to have Barney snoozing at the end of my bed when she’s locked up!  

I’m looking to get her spayed in about 3 weeks (wanted to leave it a bit extra as she had a rough start having her leg removed) – will this help?! She is about 

Help me people, I’m at my wit’s end! I want to let her out and give her loads of exercise but at the minute I only really put her out in the garden because it doesnt matter where she wees out there! 

 ALSO she is CRAZY at the minute, I think her hormones must be going absolutely mad … i think she’s around 5 and a half or 6 moths, and she’s had a HUGE growth spurt, wont leave Barney alone and has boundless energy for climbing and breaking out of her cage!! 2 bunnies, a hamster, a horse, a gecko and a university course … think I over loaded myself?

Spaying should help. Where do you put her hay at? I put mine right in the litter box, as bunnies do like to eat and go at the same time. Thats what got all mine trained

Spaying will help, but if she’s young, you may just have to wait her out to grow out of the puberty stage. A lot of it probably has to do with the other bunny scent and her hormones though.

Thanks guys. I really hope spaying does help … its making me feel really bad because barney gets to be free range and she’s shut in her cage being destructive because she wants to be let out I did try putting her hay in her litter box but she just wee’d on it when she did a wee in her litter tray completely by chance … she goes wherever she’s standing literally! Maybe I will get a hay rack and hang it where her tray is … though that might encourage her to sleep in it and wee everywhere else like she is at the moment!  Ahhhhh these teenage bunnies eh!? Spaying will most likely help a ton. Females can get very territorial, and since you have other buns she’s likely marking against them.

If every area in her cage non-absorbent? I would keep everything as a water proof surface for now, so that when she pees it doesn’t absorb, which can encourage more peeing.

Thanks for the reply Elrohwen – I am praying that spaying helps! Her cage has newspaper put down, I find if i put something that is non absorbent down she just lies in her own urine :/ x
