hello!  i’m Beka and i have a sweet little mini rex, Meadow.  that’s her in the pic obviously!  lol.  i have tons of experience on my Grateful Dead forum, but this is my first time joining any other type of group.  i have read over the FAQ and i think i can handle this.

we’ve had Meadow since July 21st.  she’s our second bunny (my dear sweet Stephen is no longer with us.)  It’s been about 3 years since Stephen left us, and we decided (or i did at least… hehe) that we wanted another bunny.  we kicked around the idea of getting a bonded pair, but we ended up with just one for now.  my husband and i also have a 4 year old son, Michael.  i know… i know… kids and bunnies do not mix… but he really is sweet with her, and i’m always close by supervising.  we haven’t had a problem.  she is not spayed yet.  the  vet wanted to wait a couple months for her to gain a little weight first, so her surgery will most likely be either the end of this month or beginning of November.

we’ve had our ups and downs.  my initial attempt at bunny-proofing (while it was good enough for Stephen) was no match for my Meadow girl.  so after several hours on different occasions spent coaxing her out from under the couches… we were able to work up an excellent system… so far.  and once we fixed that problem… she realized that most all of the cords were covered up, except for two (sneaky bun)… so she chewed thru both the mouse and keyboard cords for the computer in about 2 seconds.  i guess, as with any young rabbit, you have those days where you are completely and utterly in love with your little one, and the other days when you think, "what was i thinking?"

so that is my intro to us.  thanks so much for taking the time to read this long post!  i’m looking forward to hanging out with you guys, learning a thing or two, and who knows?  maybe my somewhat limited knowledge may help someone else!

          Hello Beka!!

And welcome to little Meadow as well – she is so cute! And with that rex fur she must be the softest little thing ever Its so funny how bunnies have an uncovered cord radar. The worst cord chewing for me was when I bought a HEPA filter to put in my room so the bunnies could be in my room, and then I moved them in, and they chewed the HEPA filter cord. I was thinking “silly buns, that HEPA filter is the reason you get your own room!” I really like that photo under your name – what has Meadow gotten herself into in that one? I have a picture of one of my girls, Juli, with her head stuck in a a big grass ball – its pretty funny.

Anyways, welcome & hope you enjoy the site!

              Hi, Beka and Meadow!

I am very new here as well, and your sweet Meadow is a beauty!  I love those adorable pictures!  I’m sorry to hear that you lost your Stephen but hope that Meadow will inspire a joyful place in your heart that, although never replaces Stephen, can honor the fact that he brought bunny snuggles into your life!

I look forward to getting to know you and Meadow. Jen

thanks everyone for the warm welcome. i think i will like it here just fine!

yes. Meadow is the softest thing ever! i could pet and snuggle her all day long (if only she’d let me…) she is so much more curious than her late brother Stephen ever was. he would run around a little bit, then hop on the couch and just chill. she’s always on the go. again… maybe just her age? in my avatar pic, she is searching underneath one of those cardboard McDonald’s drink carriers (you know, the ones they give you… but still your pop spills all over the car! lol) she will never replace my Stephen Bunny. he was my first and i loved him so much. when he was gone, our son had just turned one, so we were really occupied with him then. that’s why it took us three years to get Meadow. things have calmed down a bit. Michael is in pre-school, but i’m still a "kinda" stay-at-home mom (i work only one day a week on Saturdays… so basically i’m unemployed.) when Michael is in school, Meadow and i can have our one-on-one time… and it’s so nice and peaceful.

i hope you don’t mind a couple non-bunny pics.  this is Michael, my human child!

Welcome Beka! Our first Grateful Dead expert!  Meadow is a great name and she looks so sweet and endearing, she looks like a rex and they have fur like velvet you could cuddle all day.  Bunnies and kids do get along, so long as it is done in a responsible manner, like  the parent is the primary caretaker of the bun and supervises the child/bun interaction. It can be great bonding with your child too.  I hope to see you around!
