I think the plan is to build a new table that’s larger than the original table and then build a large cage with multiple stories and have the second bunny’s cage be one of the levels and then when they are bonded we can just make that level part of the original cage….is this a good plan? Having the new bunny’s home be on top of Caleb’s new cage? it’s kind of my only idea considering I don’t want to build another table with a cage on top of it because we are limited on space in the bedroom I guess I could do another table and cage and put it in the living room but this is where Jake sleeps at night and I can’t put him in the kitchen because he gets into the garbage. I’m just looking for some tips before I get the other bunny so I know how to set things up and any information from experience.

For another bunny you will want double the space. So if the recommended cage size for a single bunny is 4′ X 2′ (3X2 grids) you’ll want the new cage to be 4′ X 4′ (4X3 grids). The cage I housed Helo and Inara in before bonding was exactly the size I’m talking about and since you each habitat to be about 2 grids tall this is quite large/tall. Something to think about if they are going to be on a table.

Have you considered an X-Pen and keeping them on the floor? You could house Caleb and the new bunny next to each other during bonding and then both in the pen afterwards. Is Jake the concern for doing something like that? Could you set him up in the kitchen with a comfy bed and block off the living room for bedtime with a gate or something?

Hm… If you give me some better idea of your set up/space/limits I might be able to help you with some more ideas.

Caleb doesn’t like the kitchen because the floor is slippery for him…I like the idea of his cage being on the table because it’s safely off the ground so if Jake gets in the room he’s safe. Jake sleeps in the living room on the couch and we block off the kitchen from the living room so he doesn’t get in the garbage. Our room is the largest and is being taken up by our bed, a huge dresser with a mirror on top, then Caleb’s cage is in the corner next to this dresser on top of the table. Under the table is Caleb’s hay, his litter (in a bin), his food (in a different bin). Then next to Caleb’s cage/table is another smaller dresser. There are 2 small closets opposite of the large dresser which is why I can’t put another table/cage in there. I hope this helps by the way the way you have your cage set up is how I what I was talking about but only having 3 stories…I think 4 stories on the table would be too tall and make it unstable. I wouldn’t want it to fall over. But to make it stable we are going to make the table and cage longer.

How long should I wait to bond Caleb and the new bunny (still no word about a home visit but I’m sure they are busy) I just wanted to know ahead of time I should probably wait until the new bunny is comfortable in the new environment so about 1 month or so?
