Hello all! I know that this has probably already been asked, but I’m wondering what forms of bedding work best for your bunnies.

I am currently using a typical paper-type bedding from the pet store for my bun Westley, but it is a HUGE pain as he is a long haired rabbit. He always ends up tracking it all over the house and making an absolute mess, and it’s always getting all tangled up in his fur and causing him to get big hair knots.

Previously I had lined his cage with a fleece bedding, however he had started eating it and I feared that it would not be good for him to be ingesting.

I’m wondering if there is some sort of carpet that people use as bedding for their bunnies? Or another flooring alternative? I’m not super concerned about him eating carpet, as he is not at all a destructive bunny (he has never chewed anything he isn’t supposed to other than the fleece), but I still want to get some suggestions as I’m sure that some carpets have dyes and other things that would be bad for a bun. I’m also wondering if I need to add some sort of digging spot once I remove the bedding, as he seems to enjoy digging around in it.

        Thanks!!

We don’t really give Luna any “bedding” per say. Her cage floor is lined with a thin, quilted blanket (but not one with fluffy stuffing). She also have a towel for extra cushion, but she doesn’t use it. She sleeps either on the floor right in front of her cage door or in her bunny “condo”, which is just a cardboard box with a hole.

I share your concern about fleece. Luna used to have a quilt that was a fluffier and she chewed through the quilt and I was worried about her eating the stuffing. I don’t think bunnies need much cushioning anyway.
