ok i know that you can have your bunnys sleep with u but i have some questions about how to get that goin how do they get to the litter box? how do they not chew up the sheets and poop everywere cause they cant get up and down to the litter box anybody have and sugestions? or anything to help me with this idea i have been thinking alot about this and would love to have her with me but not sure how to go about it
Well… here are some answers according to our experiences.
It helps to put a box or a “step” so they can get up and down the bed easily. They will chew your sheets to bits. Occasionally they will get so excited about being in bed with you that they will pee. In the middle of the night, they may wake you up to lick your feet/hands/face or jump on your head.
So basically… it is one of the most delightful and worthwhile experiences in the whole world to have your bunny in bed with you, and there is probably no better way to wake up in the morning than to have a bunny flopped against your leg.
Definitely try it ![]()
I don’t think that I’d try that unless you are a very light sleeper, you could roll over & hurt her.
I would also have her spayed first & wait until the hormones have died down.
Mine pretty much destroyed a brand new mattress by peeing on my comforter, soaked through, although he was only just neutered at the time so still raging hormones.
Yes not only chew sheets but dig holes in them too. LOL
If she’s too small to jump on and off of the bed, you’d either have to have a litter box on the bed or wait until she’s big enough (or endure the pee and poop, although I wouldn’t blame you a bit if you decide not to. lol). Also, it depends on the bunny as to whether or not she’ll want to sleep with you. My Xiao Pang used to love being held like a teddy bear while I slept, and I usually woke up to find her stretched out behind my legs under the blankets. It was awesome. Calypso, however, has a limited tolerance for the bed. He’ll jump up to say hello, get a few head rubs, give me some “I love you” face smooshes, and off he goes.
Let me know how it goes…
thanks for all the help i think ill definatly wait till i get her spayed ! but i appriciate the help it dose sound great to have her with me!
Oh, definitely get one of those mattress pads that’s waterproof. That’s been so great…. pretty much nothing can get through it!!!
And it would probably be a good idea to wait until she’s spayed. But, after that, you’ll love it!!
<3
Ohh I am jealous of your buns not peeing on your beds and sleeping with you all.
When Cotton and Laith were under 1 yr OMG. Cotton dig dig dig in my hair I had to bunch it up and stuff it under the pillow. Then Cotton got smart and realized it was under the pillow so he would get under the pillow to dig at it. lol.
Every 2 hours he would wake me up digging in my hair. Laith had started spraying at that time. They would both leave urine next to me ![]()
Not much poop tho. So I gave it up and Laith got neutered. I had stopped letting them sleep with me.
Hubby he came back after I had gotten the rabbits and he doens’t want animals in the bedroom much less on the bed. Plus the bed is between my waist and chest high and that would not be safe for them.
There are other people who can let their buns sleep with them and don’t have any problems at all. I wish I could do that with mine. lol.
I had a bonded pair that I let run free in my room, and they didn’t work very well for sleeping on my bed unfortunately! They really loved the bed, so much so that they decided to mark it and pee on it. At first, I stopped them by putting a shower curtain over the bed while I wasn’t home, but after awhile they adjusted and just peed on the bed when I was IN it! haha, then I slept for awhile with a shower curtain on top of me, until one night when Martin tried to elude the shower curtain and jumped and landed on my face….so….mine weren’t the type that were good at sleeping on my bed, but it doesn’t hurt to try, as long as you know what to expect.

then I slept for awhile with a shower curtain on top of me,
LOL! Ah – the things we do for our Bunnehs!!!
My rabbit Pepe jumps up on the bed with me (he does pee sometimes) and frankly as much as I love him, it’s not comfortable having him in bed with me. I have to grab him and hug him beside me in order for him to not bite me or my husband with those sharp teeth – that’s his first instinct – chomp, chomp.
After awhile he’ll wants to dig and chew on the sheets and I have to put him down and back up he comes or if I’m lucky he’ll stay away. I find it hard to sleep with him in the bed – he’s not one to flop down at the end of the bed and I don’t get a good night’s sleep most nights with his antics.
So be careful what you wish for :~)
I’m not sure I’d allow them in my bed while I was sleeping-poop and pee on the couch=fine, but not on my bed! LOL
One thing I do is take a sleeping bag and nap on the floor-then you can ‘sleep’ with them, and they’ll often cuddle -but there is no mattress to replace should they tinkle ![]()
After I read this thread this weekend, I decided I would try sleeping with Leroy.
I grabbed some blankets and spread them out on the floor of the living room, since I know Leroy is NOT to be trusted on the bed. I’ve only let him up there a few times, and almost every time, I was holding him. The two times he did get to bounce around on his own, he promptly peed. A LOT. Ick. So I figured even if Leroy did pee, all I had to do was toss the blankets in the wash. Easy peasy.
Well, it took me FOREVER to fall asleep because I was so paranoid about what Leroy was doing. He was hopping around, doing his own thing, but in the dark I couldn’t see what he was up to. Things were no better after I fell asleep because Leroy felt the need to come over and wake me up every now and then by digging at my hair and biting my head. I think he was trying to groom me, but he sure was rough about it! I have no idea where he slept. It could have been on the blankets by me, since whenever I’m laying on the floor watching tv or on my laptop he’ll join me and flop out next to my leg. Or it could have been in his own bed that he has in the corner of the living room. I was hoping that, despite the fact Leroy isn’t much of a cuddler, her would snuggle up next to me, but he didn’t. It was fun, but it’s not something I’ll be doing on a regular basis. Shelby’s mom, I wish I had something better to tell you!
One good thing came out of it though, in the morning, no pee on me or my blankets! If you do try it though, make sure she can get to a litter box if she needs to during the night.
Sounds like a slumber party!!
: D
I wanna have a slumbun party
hehehe. “slumbun party.” It was! Wiith treats (veggies for him and icecream for me!!
) and everything
Sleeping with bunnies is DEFINITELY not for everyone. LizzieKnitty might be the only person I actually have heard of that does sleep regularly with her bun. There are many factors to take into consideration… everything that has been mentioned above.
My buns will not stay on the couch or bed (thank goodness!) They come visit, they say ‘hi’, they dig, they chew, they chomp to get ME off THEIR bed… and then they run off and play. I’m not sure I’d ever get any sleep again if they were on my bed at night.
Most of the time he jumps in bed, cuddles and plays for a while, and then tumbles off the end of it and sleeps in the little hidey space where the sheet tucks into the mattress. It’s pretty tight in there, so it’s like a bunny burrito, but he seems to love it. Maybe it feels like a burrow…?
It’s so cute when I wake up, though, because I lift the sheet up and he gives me this look like “oh… hello there!”
This has been some fun reading. Moo Bunny . Pee only with you in the bed rofl… I know yuckyuck
Ahh Barbie yours dug in your hair too lol.. Ruby very seldom does my hair. When she does it does hurt a little as she does my scalp. She nibbles.
With all the conversations here I decided to give Ruby a chance on the bed while I napped. She did great. Right as I feel asleep she nose bumped my hand. She is funny she will go all around my body and nose bump me. Apparantly she was satisfied and I got to sleep for an hour.
When I got up no pee or poop. Cool so I let her in bed with me again today while I napped. She did real good. Such a lady.
Xiao Pang never dug in my hair, but she used to pull on it and eat it. Every morning, I would wake up with new layers in my hair. lol. Other than that, I loved having her sleep with me. She would occasionally wake me up, but it was nice to be woken up by an affectionate bunny trying to give you a face smoosh. I miss those days… she loved to lie on my chest with the blankets pulled tight over her ears and just her sweet little bunny face sticking out. Looking back now, she was a really weird bunny, as far as her love of being held and cuddled went. Maybe it was because I got her when she was so young. In China, they don’t really wait the recommended time frame before taking babies away from their mama buns.
As for Calypso, he will lie nose to nose for about five minutes before he takes off. Maybe I can turn Echo into a snuggle bed bun after she’s fixed… but I won’t hold my breath. lol
Bunnytowne! Now you can have a bed bun!
: )
Id like to do it but Id be afraid of peeing on my bed and squishing them (I sleep like a log). (Well actually some things wake me up very effectively, like the sound of a dog throwing up… I bolt upright when that happens.)
Oooh Bunnytowne! WAIT until Cotton finds out! I will pray for you.
Moonlight wolf, this might not help you any, but I’ve found that I wake up very easily when I know Leroy is out, even though I sleep like a rock the other times. Actually, I took a nap on the floor last night and was laying on my stomach. I woke up very suddenly when I felt this light pressure on my back – I thought it was a man’s hand (since it was big) and it scared the crap out of me – I thought I had a rapist/intruder!. Turns out, it was Leroy, wanting his dinner! =P
I let Frankie explore on his own. I would bring him up on my bed every once in a while, but he wasn’t fond of it. One day, he decided to start getting up there on his own at his leisure. He does the full jumps up and down. He rarely sleeps with me though. He mostly gets up for pets or to dig through the stuff on my bed head. And occasionally wakes me up by jumping on my head (this happens like once a week around 6 am, haha). He’s never really gone potty on my bed except for one time that he was feeling too sick to move.
He has his on weeks and off weeks as to how often he wants to be on my bed, but spends most of his time under it rather than on it when he’s in my bedroom!
I think it mostly depends on the bunny and their level of comfort.
My bunnies would absolutely plot midnight stinky pranks if they slept with me. Plus the way Steve rolls around, I’d be afraid we’d sandwich one. Also Jack is afraid of heights – he would be scared to death of the bed. (We have one of those really high up beds that even makes it challenging for our cat – he jumps and then pulls himself the rest of the way up.
Furface – that Furry Family photo is ADORABLE!! Love it.
Thanks I’ve been meaning to get a new one with the new additions.
Even when she was a lone bun, Coco rarely slept for long times in my bed – She would loaf there, and I would find her licking my feet in the morning. And sometimes If I was late in the morning salad delivery. But now that Jackson has joined us, she only jumps up here to escape him if he is pestering her. Oddly, he has no interest in the bed. Doesn’t even look interested when she propels herself upwards.
But for now the two kids are caged at night until they can collectively re-learn their litter habits!
