        Hey Guys

        Kyoshi here!

As you may know, im trying to stay off here, as my bunny plan has been set back.

But Ive decided instead of moping around here and feeling bad for myself, im gonna do something. My moms top 3 reasons for no bunny:

        1. Not enough money. Im already taking care of this. Im getting 5 bucks for each book I read for this compitition at my school (thanks Dad!) and I have 25 bucks already (Again Thanks dad!) so ill have 175 at the end. Plus my friends and I are dog walking, so that should rack in some dough.

        2. Doesnt think Im responsible enough. Which is very stupid, as i am currently the owner of two LIVING guinea pigs.

        3. And the MOST IMPORTANT Biggest deal breaker, ( I am aware this is the 3rd and probably should have been 1st, but I think this is more relevant and well… Ya know what? Dont contridict my decision!) My guinea pigs. They stink, they take up alot of space, and my mom thinks there just disgusting (Even though she had a guinea before and claimed she loved him with her life.). So thats my problem. I want to bond my guinea pigs, so that they 1. Can live in the same cage (less space) 2. will be happier, and 3 it will be easier too make one stop than get greens and have to devide them up evenly, then get water from each stop, and fill then hoist them up and then clean there cages and get their hay and pellets and, well, it can go on and on.

Ok we tried this earlier, right when we got Toot, and it was sucsessful, but then Toot had a scab on his nose and the vet claimed it was from Bean, (even though Ringworm medicine cleared it up in a week and I had NEVER heard or seen them fight) so my mom didnt want to try and bond them. Well its been a year now and Im pretty sure their ready to try again. Ive had them next to each other for a couple months now. They like to stare at each other, but not to the point where its exccesive, and havent shown any agression towards each other, only squeaking or chewing at the bars, which Toot has been doing all his time with me. So heres a little back round on them.

Bean- Male. Man of the House, First Child. Chubby. Brown coat, with big blotch of white on stomache and small white blotch on head. Entire brown part of coat is black specked (im getting my DSi back from repair soon, so pics will be here eventually.)Calm and gentle, and has never bitten me. Is great during nail cuts and grooming, and will squeak until he is satisfied.

Toot- Male. Baby Boy. Squirmish, but calms down quickly. Never Bitten. Is still small, despite unlimited pellets and the fact ive had him for a year, may be dwarf. Brown, with Orangy-Brown stripes all over and small orange-brown blotch on head. Havent trimmed nails yet, as his nails just squish instead of cutting cleanly. Litter Trained.

So will they be compatible? And if so, I need advice on bonding.  Nothing is coming up for guinea pig bonding.

And a couple of questions really eating at me:
Will it be ok if Toots litter trained and bean isnt? I dont want to get Toot off the habit, and I would like Bean on it. He often is staring at the litterbox like, “So, when do I get my own doohicky?”

If they start humphing, should i be concerned? Im Absolutely sure that Toot is male, but Im Not POSITIVE bean is. My mom got all grossed out when I was looking up sexing, so I cant exactly do it… (My moms kinda annoying on that stuff ) I HATE the Idea of humphing, it kinda grosses me out. (I know, im a hypocrite)

And will they fight??? I do NOT want to go to the stupid vet again, as its like, a half hour away, and im not sure the vet knows what shes talking about…

        So im, clueless. HELP!!

PS. Anyone think they can help me figure out theeir breeds?

PSS. I realize this makes me sound like I dont like my mom. I LOVE her alot, but in this whole bunny debate, shes my main enemy.

If this needs to be moved, sorry!

My best advice is to join the Guinea Lynx forum to help you with your guinea pigs and their bonding:

With my female piggies, the best way to stop them bickering with one another is you need more than one item of toys/hidies/water bottles. A lot of members at cavycages.com will tell you the same thing. Always give multiple hidey houses when having more than 1 pigger and you need to make sure they have enough room to popcorn and run around. The number one reason for piggy arguments is over hidie homes, not enough room in the cage, and water bottles.

I’ve had up to 6 males living together before and sometimes they did tell off one another but there was never any serious fighting. They would do their rumble strut but I never saw them hump eachother. As for stinking ….just clean the cage more often and they won’t smell as bad

You should really make sure that little Toot is a male, all you have to do is press very gently on the private area and you will know if something pops out. The guinealynx forums will have photos for you. As for the humping …..if you hate it so much then I really wouldn’t get rabbits because it does happen.

How long has Toot been off the ringworm meds? If Toot is clear and healthy and indeed a male (you really need to know this because you will get baby pigs if not) then they should be fine together, given if you have enough space for them and multiple hidey houses. Do you use water dishes or water bottles? If you use water bottles then I would recommend that you have 2 so that they don’t fight over who gets to drink first.

Clean your cage well that you want them to both be in and clean off the hidey homes/feeders/waterers/everything; just so everything is new to them so they can inspect the new enviroment and go from there.

You can see here I have 3 different houses, Jerry LOVED that fuzzy white one, which has now turned into Bun’s cushion.

Why would you ever put 2 animals together when you don’t know the gender – you need to get a professional to verify the genders so you don’t end up with a pregnant guinea pig.

Well I am Possitive that Toot is male, his vet checked im for me. I’ll try it and post pics i guess, but im not sure. If i push though, will it be obvious he is male?

Again, the best advice is to go the guinealynx forum to find out about your guinea pigs. That’s what they do, that’s all they do.

I think it feels like that in the beginning on new forums… it’s like a new city: once you start finding things and get familiar, it’s fun and easy too!

For this topic, you will need to ask these questions at a dedicated site. I have no clue about bonding piggies, and I don’t want to just guess based on rabbit bonding, b/c they are after all, different animals.

If you want to go this route and get them bonded, in a bigger cage, etc… this is something I would work on before considering getting a rabbit. You might decide you like only having one cage to clean. Maybe you will no longer want a rabbit at that point, at least until your pigs have passed.
