BB WLSG….I figure you’re asking what the heck?  It’s the Binky Bunny Weight Loss Support Group.    Sorry I didn’t post Sunday, I’ve been sicker than a dog and have not been to the gym in almost a week. But (since I’m evil) I work out at home so I don’t make anyone else sick and cardio is out of the question unless I want to cough up a lung.  So, that being my current situation, I would like to know what you do when you get sick to get over the cold/flu so you can get back to the gym.  Any sure-fire remedies and how long do you wait to head back to the gym?  This is totally killing me not getting to the gym and I’m getting a lot stir crazy.

So sorry to hear you’re not feeling well. I am better today, but had a yucky little bug for the past week, and every time I went in to work, it taxed my throat and energy and I kept relapsing.

Think of your body as busy at the moment. It has a new job – clearing out an infection/illness, and you need to assist with that. That means not challenging yourself to do something physical other than getting rid of it. For me, it’s as much sleep as possible. When everything else shuts down, the body can put all its energies into the one job. Bed rest operates on that principle.

The tons of water (I add OJ for vitamin C) is good for flushing it out as well. Plus you keep your fluids moving freely to get all body parts to do what they need to in the fight. So even though you think you’re sedentary, you’re getting a workout.

Low aerobic movement helps the blood flow and keeping your strength, so I’d say gentle treadmill walking but not real workout until you are definitely improved. I know this sounds very dull and like you’re giving in, but actually it shortens the time of illness and shelf life of germs inside. You’re a hostile host, so it leaves. When you go back to the gym, allow one or two sessions of your earlier, easier routine, then build back up. It will prevent injury.

Thanks Pam!!! I am feeling a TON better today. I’ve spent the last 4 days in bed and feel so utterly lazy. I must get to the gym but Pam, like you said, I have to give my body time to kick out this infection. Thank you so much for your advice.

Tiger Lily you are right, it is going around EVERYWHERE and it is horrible, nasty stuff.  Lots of fluids like Pam said and what really helped me kick it was Mucinex-D.  NyQuil just wasn’t cutting it and the salt water gargle helped some with the sore throat (not as well as the scotch LOL).  Echinacea tea, vitamin C & elderberry extract must have helped too.

Glad to hear you’re better, Scarlet.
I’m better too, though my Group Tour voice was taxed again yesterday. It feels so different when you wake up and know you’ve really kicked an illness. I can tell that, even with a scratchy throat this morning, it’s just my usually allergies. Well, today is TGIW (ie. Wednesday) because my work week is Sat.-Wed. so it’s the weekend tomorrow. Whew!

I can’t really complain – our exhibit is a sudden success this season, much to our surprise (we invented and curated this one ourselves) so I’ve got so many more visitors to the museum. It comes down next Monday, so the madness will subside. Talk about germs! Visitors from up north by the dozens in a small building – ack, ack.

Don’t work out too hard today, Scarlet.

Oh, it’s called STUFF. It’s inspired by George Carlin’s routine from the 60s about how we all buy more and more stuff, and need bigger houses to put it in, and don’t know what to take with us when we travel, etc. It’s funny. We put up the transcript.

Anyway, we focused on everyday stuff from the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Put out a call to the local community to lend us their stuff, plus some vintage businesses and collectors. Found an artist who does huge pencil drawings of Hollywood divas from those years. A collector from NY state lent us 50 Fisher Price toys. The exec. director is a former theatre set designer, so we created little sets in the galleries of a 40s living room, a 50s kitchen and a 60s girl’s bedroom. I did two big Memory Walls that were printed out time lines with photos, plus photos people lent to us that I scanned, and typed up their stories in a paragraph for each. So much work. Now we’re sorry it’s coming down so soon. Had no idea it would do well.
