I’m really worried about Bindi. Since I started him on Baytril Saturday he’s been totally not interested in his hay. He is just picking at it and his poops are really small. Usually he is a total hay pig. Could this be a side effect?

Possibly. I would call your vet and see if she can prescribe something else.

Many times Baytril can cause an upset stomach – it is also possible that he is not eating because he doesn’t feel good from the infection – how long has he been on the baytril?

I do not have any personal experience with dosing bunnies with Baytril, but it always a good idea to keep your vet informed.  That way medical records/comments/progress notes can be entered and evaluated if Bindi needs to go on antibiotics in the future.  Better than trying to remember which meds he was on before and what his reaction was.

He started Baytril on Saturday. He goes back to the vet on Monday for a re-check. I was not happy to see he also had some very squishy poops this morning, really soft and stuck to his fur, only a small amount but he hasn’t had any more of those today.

Well, if he’s started eating I would continue to keep him on the Baytril until you talk w/the vet – taking him off before getting something else will only keep his infection from continuing to clear up.

On Monday I would mention my concerns and see what else the vet advises.

Some antibiotics do have more side effects than others but sometimes the positives are going to outweigh the side effects in the long run when taking medications.
