How is it going looking for fosters?? I have been prevented from fostering here in Texas because I’ve kept all my fosters so far and am now up to seven What kind of advertising are you doing? And how does fostering work with the Rabbit Haven? – do you provide any supplies to the foster parents? I am wondering because I’m trying to get some type of quasi rescue network set up out here in TX.

We have been innundated with bunnies in the last few weeks, moms with litters dumped at one of our local shelters (I think 4 so far) plus individual babies that get picked up as strays.  We have been advertising on Craig’s List and getting pretty good responses so far (you can see our latest one here sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/pet/431805013.html )  We also recruit foster sites at our adoption shows, sometimes people who already have a bunny and want to help, sometimes first time bunny people who want to try out what living with a bunny is like.  We usually supply an X-Pen for adults or a Marchioro for babies, crocks, litter box, small bag of litter and food and a small supply of hay.  The Haven takes care of any vet bills, meds, and spay/neuter.  The foster families supply the greens, food, hay and litter, though we often get donations in that are then parcelled out amongst the foster sites.  Our director screens each potential site, and they have to fill out a form (therabbithaven.org/foster_application.htm)

Osprey- – I just went on your site (I’m a frequent visitor) and I am really sad to hear about Dixie. She is so sweet looking. I’m trying to raise $ for her as an Easter project. I try to raise money for buns every Easter. I hope she gets better soon!

Thanks LittlePuffyTail, it is looking like Dixie will be a $1000+ bunny, so it all helps.

I try to get updates onto the website 2-3 times a week, so that people know what we are up to and can follow the progress of their favorite buns.  It is nice to know that I have repeat readership!  That reminds me, I should update Marilyn’s story soon too….

Since the website is having technical difficulties today I see people are responding to really old posts. Is this situation resolved since it was first posted in September? This is killing me to read these horrendous stories and the torture these poor creatures endure. I’m so much better off not knowing! But I would like to help at least financially.

We continue to be innundated, unfortunately.  We just took in 63 guinea pigs, many of them pregnant sows, that some doofus boxed up in a crate and dumped on the doorstep of an East Bay shelter in the middle of the night.  Many of these are on their way to rescues in southern california.  We’ve also taken in around 50 rabbits (mostly moms and litters) in the last few months, plus several bunnies with expensive conditions that we are trying to treat.  All I do is make the website posts and craig’s list, and I have trouble keeping up.  We lost a couple of totally adoptable bunnies at a shelter in the South Bay that wasn’t even full, that really hurt, but you can’t save them all, unfortunately.

Are any of those guineas going to the Bunny Bunch in So Cal? Thats the rescue I used to work with, they did a lot of small critter adopting – I loved fostering the mice, and the dwarf hammies and the chinchillas!

The SoCal part of the rescue is being coordinated by Wee Companions (http://www.weecompanions.com/).  I do not know much about them.
