Anyone ever seen or heard of this?

I’ve only found one product online – I thought it would be more common.  Unfortunately it is clumping kind though it says no chemicals added – I’m wondering if bamboo would naturally clump?

I first looked into this after reading of bamboo and hemp babies nappies (as you do…) that are supposedly really absorbant and control odour,  These are washable also.  Bamboo is said to be 4 times more absorbant than cotton. So I thought that it possibly was used as a litter material.  I’m interested in this as it could be a more environmantally friendly option for litter.  I do wonder about the source of the wood pellet materials sometimes.

Here’s a pic of the litter I did find.  Perhaps it would be more available in the future?

I’ve never heard about Bamboo litter, that would be more sustainable… and probably a good bit more expensive. Good question about the source of WSP… my guess would be it’s made from scrap leftover from other enterprises, but who knows? It is basically compacted sawdust…

A couple of years ago I read some research on the rise of bamboo in products. It’s very versatile and easy to grow, harvest, and shape into different things, so it’s taking off as an environmentally positive product.

That said, I think use of it for litter is pretty new. Like pine, we would need to know a bit more about the constitution of the plant and it’s processing before I’d be comfortable about its safety. It’s another plant, and like pine and cedar, it may be fine for some animals but not others. I’m sure someone somewhere is testing right now.

The clumping issue wouldn’t be a concern for me as I use a grated litter box. However, there may be other things…(phenols?) so I probably have to wait and see if it becomes popular and more is discovered about it. Yes, Bamboo is supposed to be environmentally friendly and it is supposed to be one of the best plants for sinking carbon out of the atmosphere and back into the earth. Another plus…

WSP…yes, I think is is making use of a by-product, which is great, but I do wonder if the primary product it comes from is managed in a environmentally friendly way.

I’m always wary of anything claiming to be sustainable coming from Asia. My lecturers taught us to always be suspicious in our asian studies courses that focus on environment impact of developing economies.

That sounds like it coud be really cool – I hope it works! I would like to use it if it turns out to be safe.
