I got a bale of hay, actually two bales, from a local farmer. One is 1st cut timothy and the other is “mostly orchard grass with some ryegrass, brome, a little timothy and a tiny amount of bluegrass”.
Switching from Kleenmama’s hay, this hay isn’t as “green” or good bunny quality. They are eating it, but definitely picking through it, with lots left over. I figured they would, and its fine since it was only $4 a bale. KM’s hay was great, but pretty expensive (with shipping and all) for how much I was going through. They seem to like the 1st cut T better than the mixed.
But yesterday Arduina did not eat her afternoon cecals (they were all over the carpet -not in the litterbox). I am assuming they are hers because she had a couple stuck to her butt. In other ways, she seemed very normal and has been fine since. Leo is doing well. Do you think that was from the hay?
Also, Last week, Arduina wasn’t feeling well at all and I gave a does of simethicone and within an 1.5h she was back to normal. I gave her another dose before bed and by morning she was bouncing off the walls happy as could be. So I’m wondering if this is from changing the hay? I gave them both a small bit of KM’s 3rd cut hay, which they devoured.
(Other diet includes: 1/4 C pellets in the morning for the two of them, and then 2C of veggies in the evening -same as usual)
