So yesterday I had just gotten my baby bun Alice spayed. I took her home last night, she seemed okay. Eating, pooping, peeing, she just looked groogy
Which is to be expected after meditation and what not. So when I came home from school this afternoon I noticed that her two front legs have bald spots on them. I think she’s pulling out her fur. When I saw this I just felt so bad for her, and I panicked, and ended up crying. Is this a normal thing for bunnies to do after getting fixed? Will my baby be okay? I tried calling the vet but they closed at 2pm today so I’m just really worried about her. I’m gonna call up her doctor tomorrow morning but should I bring her in? She isn’t really pulling/licking her stitches though, just her fur if that helps. I feel so horrible, like I’m a bad mommy or something cause I don’t know what to do for her.

Was she given pain meds? If she wasn’t then that could be how she’s dealing with the really bad pain.

Is the bald spots on her legs or her paws? If she was given fluids they will usually shave a small area of their legs. Usually it would only be on one leg but they may have had to use both. If it is her paws then of course this wouldn’t be the cause but just thought I’d mention this to rule it out.

Yes, she was given pain medication before leaving the vet last night. And I gave her some more when I came back from school today, doctor said to only give it once a day. And it was both her legs, not paws, sorry. It’s like square patches missing on her front legs, the skin looms normal to me, it isn’t red or anything like that. I’m just so worried. But I mean she is eating, and pooping a lot like normal. And I have her in a play pen area (trying to minimize her exercise for a few days) and she’s jumped out a few times(which she never did before) so I guess she’s okay then. I’m thinking maybe since she’s a free roam 27/7 she wasn’t use to being “locked up” so she got stressed out maybe?

I’m honesty leaning towards her being clipped but it should be easy to tell if that is the case. If the bald patch is pretty square and you are seeing smooth skin where it’s bald that’s most likely what happened. If she was chewing or pulling her hair you won’t typically see very clean edges and a square shape. If you can post a picture you might get more help.

In the mean time since you have to keep an eye on her to make sure she’s not messing with the incision anyway I would just keep an eye on what she might be doing to her leg.

                Good luck with her healing!

I agree. Square patches does sound like areas that were shaved for administering meds or fluids. You can always call the clinic to verify.

I agree, my buns usually have a patch missing on each front leg after surgery because their veins are hard to hit so they often blow a vein out and have to try on another leg, so I wouldnt worry!

Thank you guys so much! After looking at her legs I noticed a little puncture on each leg so it’s most likely where they gave her the needles. But now my concern is that she isn’t really drinking any water and not peeing(I thought she was since she peed a lot yesterday but that’s probably cause of the fluids they gave her) . She is eating and pooping though. So I gave her some wet greens and a syringe of water and I’m going to call the vet in an hour or so when they open.

I agree, some vets use legs to find a vein if they can’t find one in the ears or if the ears are too small.

If she’s eating wet greens then she’s probably getting enough fluid. Like you already have, you can also give her a syringe of water if you’re worried.
Since she’s eating and pooping, it sounds like shes doing great

Alice is doing just fine now, like she’s never gone I to surgery. She’s eating, pooping, drinking water, and peeing which I’m so glad! Thank you everyone!!!

Yay! I am so glad she did so well. When you said she was eating, peeing and pooping I had a feeling your girl was going to get through this like a rock star.

                            Thanks for the update!!
