First off, sorry I havent been around. Migraines have gotten the better of me for the past several months.

Anyways, Cooper, my lop bun, started acting funny and not eating this past Friday nite. I of course panicked knowing with Christmas no vet would be around. Poor little guy, I pumped him full of Simethicone and then kept him in the living room w/ me  all nite away from his Pookie. Finally around 4am I fell asleep and he woke me up around 8am playing in a potty box. He had eaten the greens and papaya tablets I had out for him so i thought we were ok-i was wrong.

Sat evening family get together, we go and I come home to find he is refusing treats again and not pooping. Again, pump him full of simethicone (ok i didnt really pump him full but i did give it to him as per HRS isntructions). I do have Critical care but instead i mushed up some timothy pellets and forced fed him pellets and some additional water. Poor little guy. He was miserable and wanted to be left alone. I did as much as I could and was exhausted not sleeping two nites in a row from trying to get his gut to move. LIttle Pookie attacked me twice thinking i was hurting him AND even stole the medicine dropper with simethicone trying to hide it from me! (how smart is she?!)

Sun, Mon & Tues he was nibbling one minute and not the next with very small poops.

I had to go into the hospital at the Clevleand Clinic on Wed really early and would be there until last nite. So of course was so worried I would lose Cooper. No one can take care of bubby like mommy can.

My husband called every vet in town Wed and everyone was off for the week. Emergency vets wouldnt see him either. So my husband gave him anything and everything to get Cooper to eat.

Thank God my pushiness paid off. Wed nite he started pooping normally, eating normally and back to his happy binky self. I have watched him like a hawk since I got home last nite and hes eating well, drinking and pooping up a storm!

I’m glad he’s better – I know your persistence surely helped get him better – that’s what it takes sometimes – be aware and being persistent. Sometimes they get a really bad bout of gas that causes stasis so perhaps that’s what Cooper had.

i’m glad he’s feeling better (and i hope you’re feeling better….)  what had he been eating before this happened… did you introduce anything new that might’ve upset his system?

I am glad is he back to his normal self now. Did you give him a tummy massage too? I think your TLC and persistence got him through too.

Whew! I too am sorry about the migraines, I suffer from them myself and have bouts with them off and on, it is truly debiltating and nothing in the world helps.  Although I do find that the scent of lavender oil helps with the nausea and even will curb the pain a bit and an ice pack on my head with a pillow pulled over it all and my face and curl up in my bed. The pain is just indescribeable.  I do hope that you can find something to curb them and there is a migraine support web site that has links to lots of great info if you would like to check it out Migraine Resources.  A co-worker of mine also is blessed with it too and the thing that helps her is drinking expresso coffee. Something with the caffeine dialating the blood vessels and getting oxygen to your brain and organs. My best to you and for continued relief from migraines. Oh yes, and certain foods can cause it too, for me, one of the known triggers, it is blue food-grade dye, most notedly the dreaded blue M & M’s.

Wow, what a horrible time for you and Cooper. Just what a migraine suffer needs, more stress. Glad you are both better.

Wow, I am glad he is better!  If you have trouble finding an ER bunny vet in your area, is there any chance you can get a hold of some Metacam and subQ fluids to keep for emergencies?  In my experience, when they are starting to slide into stasis, fluids and pain relief can head off a bad situation if you catch it quickly enough.  Personally, I still do not know how to give sub Q fluids, and I really need to learn.

                        Thanks everyone!

Cooper’s diet had not changed so I have no idea what brought this all on. I need to talk w/ my vet about keeping meds on hand. This is not the first time we have run into a problem with all the bunny vets being off in the area at once. Our local HRS gave me a back of fluids with tubing and all for our shelter buns in case of emergency. I didnt even think about going to get that bag and replacing it. I force fed Cooper fluids in addition to his pellets because I knew he hadnt been drinking. Poor little guy. I just knew he was going to hate me once he got over being sick.

But Cooper is back to his old self. He sat with us watching tv tonite. He traded kisses for pets. He is definitely my love bunny!

Yay Cooper! I know he probably didn’t love ya for the force feeding, but it very well may have saved his life.

It’s always stressful trying to stay up to keep an eye on your bun when he’s not eating or pooping! I’m glad to know everything turned out all right!
