         Hello all,

I am worried for my bun Lola. She has been struggeling for the past month or so on a few things. Her husbunny forgot where to use the litterbox after their boarding so Lola is all mothy and yellow (with the baths i give her which i know are not good for buns). He is hard to train.

Plus, after boarding, she got an ear infection which has cleared now. Plus the vet there (who was supposed to be rabbit savvy) gave her a dental without actually doing anything and I think it actually caused an abscess to surface!!! I switched vets immediately and I feel very confident about this new vet. (Lola has seen 6 vets in all over her 5 years of being with us) It was hard because I just moved to phoenix about three months ago and I had an awesome vet in my hometown but I need to find another one here. Additionally, after the boarding, she is having a severe weight problem, she is very small and boney, no matter what I feed her. I am trying to keep her on hay and some dry food as well as some greens. Could this all be caused by the abscess????

Anyways, the vet said her stomache was a little hard and I couldnt remember noticing any of her poops, which are different than her husbunny’s. I separated them and cleaned her part of the cage to see if she is going. I just fed her critical care but she is wanting food and is having a ball eating. She is a little sad but she got a shot at the vet today.

She is going in for her abscess surgery tomorrow and I want to know if there is anything that will help her. Her coat is lumpy and I cant pluck anything without hurting her and I dont want to cut anything off, risk of cutting her is far worse. Her skin is very non-elastic, feels more like silly puddy in her underbelly.

I am very worried about her. She seems to be hyper and wanting to eat but when i pick her up or clean her or force feed her, she is just limp and seems as though she doesnt care what i do as long as im with her… odd! She is the spunky one.

Please help me help her! I am so worried about her, Im a little depressed.

I have some mint… would that help? carrot? I wish i had pineapple or simethicone!

I’m sorry to hear your rabbit is not well. What a horrible boarding experience. I think you are doing all that you can. An abscess can cause a myriad of health trouble certainly. Can you brush her coat out with a damp brush and give her tummy massages, gentle ones, as she sits on your lap? Has she been passing anything? –vibes for your rabbit to pull through! ~

            Poor Lola! (((Healing vibes!)))

Are you certain the staining is from husbunny? Could she be getting her own pee on herself?

The shot the vet gave, this is for getting her gut moving? Sorry, I’m not clear. Is the current urgent problem that she’s not eating and possib;y not pooping?

I’ve just realized you said she’s having surgery tomorrow (well today I guess) Please update when you can.

I’m wondering how old Lola is? Was she an adult when you got her? I would talk to this new vet about doing a blood test to get more of an idea of what is going on. Hope the surgery goes well!

Hello, Thank you all for replying.

I just got off the phone with my vet and he says the abscess was much more complicated than he expected which in turn most likely caused all her problems. He said it was swollen on the outer side of her lower left jaw but inside the jaw was where the infection was. Therefore, he needed to pack it with an impregnated substance instead of ask me to administer shots into it (more painful for both of us). He did not tell me he took out any teeth which may be good if the abscess had not been caused by a tooth or root. He will need to repack it next week and we will discuss a more concrete healing plan for her when i pick her up. He did not mention anything about her stomache so I will ask him about it when I go.

I noticed this morning and last night that she is pooping, not like usual but she is doing it. She wanted to be held by me this morning so badly.

She is actually 5 yrs old. The shots she is currently receiving is actually penicillin G for the abscess once a day. She is also getting an oral pain med once a day and another medicine twice a day… im at work so i dont remember the names.

I will post an update after picking her up from the vet. He said he stitched her up after packing the jaw. Should i keep her separate from her husbunny, Cinnabon? Oh, and it could very well be her urine also but I usually catch her peeing in the litter box so I assume it is probably his for the most part… he is crazy!

No, don’t separate her from her husbunny.

Poor Lola. Dental abscesses are nasty things!

She’ll be wanting her husbunny’s company and comfort with all of this, poor girl. Definitely don’t separate them.

I dont want to separate them but if he keeps peeing everywhere, how am i going to keep her from lying on it? I think it will infect her wound on her chin. advice?

I don’t think she will sit in it. Honestly if they are bonded, you need to keep them together.

Have you had him checked to make sure he doesn’t have a urinary tract infection if he’s peeing everywhere?

                          {{{Lola}}}

This vet sounds promising. I hope so for yours and Lolas sake.

hmmm. a urinary tract infection could be possible. Are there any other signs to look out for?

Lola is pretty good, hyper and hungry. Her skin is stapled under her jaw and she keeps trying to clean it causing it to bleed a little but I am not too worried about it yet.

Mose resilience and recovery vibes for Lola!

If your other rabbit keeps peeing everywhere, I’d take a urine sample to the vet. Collect this by having him pee on a bare plastic surface such as in a carrier. Check him for wet bottom, too, that is often a sign.

Just want to add healing vibes for both. Let us know how she’s doing and what the vet says about husbun.
