        Well THAT was tramatic.

Trimming Jacksons nails – Trying to do a little bit more frequently since his nails were overgrown to begin with and quite long.

Last nail, he squirmed and I cut a smidge too close.

Blood Everywhere – Daughter yelling and pointing.

Irritated Jackson now being held in lap with cold washcloth on foot – When the bleeding nearly stopped I but non-pain relieving ointment around the nail.

He is now in the maze. I can practically hear the curses being hurled my way. Even with TWO papyaya tablets offerred as apology….

Boy, are you not alone. I learned this great tip called “press, press. clip” where you squeeze the nail twice first and if the bunny pulls away you’re too close and if they don’t, you can go ahead and clip.
          WELL,
she only seems to pull away on the Clip part.
Bloodstains on the carpet that Miss Marple would report to the police.
This was last weekend. Over a week ago maybe. I didn’t get stink eye. I got punched. She hated my hands, especially the left which is used mostly for catching her, and teeth lunges, running away.  THEN she sticks her head under the right hand for pets! (“You made me bleed. Feel guilty. Give me whatever I want NOW.”)

Last night I got so tired of being in the dog house and being lunged at by this pint sized spawn of S. that when she did it again I walked away. Completely ignored her, wouldn’t talk to her, just got on my computer.
          Felt kisses on my feet.
          No dice. Ignored her.
          More kisses.
          Stood up.
She ran around and through my legs in circles. So I pet her. More kisses.
          We have made up.

Aw, Sammi is such a character.
Poor Jackson, it’s soooo easy to do though. Layla has black nails and I’m always so scared of cutting too close cause she already hates me LOL so I don’t like to give her extra reasons to hate me.

I nicked Pepper once and it was quite a mess but didn’t seem to bother her. Nicked a foster once and he bled all over the place but decided that I was playing a “catch-me” game so by the time I caught him the kitchen looked like a crime scene. That was what convinced me that it really didn’t hurt all that much.

Wow. 0_o Pam you have some moxie, let me tell you…I’d be gone after the first bunny kiss myself, I don’t get them hardly at all, nails or no nails. ~_~
Fiver’s are getting TRES long. I did just find out today though that, if I allow him to ‘box’ the grooming glove before petting him with it, that he is satisfied that he has ‘shown it some manners’ and allows me to groom for longer than I have before.
But nail trimming. *wince* That’s going to be a two-slave job, no question.
I’d rather have my vet do it. *nods* Let HER be in the doghouse with him…ALL of them for that matter!

When I trim Dono’s nails, all he does during it is dig at my chest as if he’s trying to reach my heart and then nip me after 2 seconds of futile digging. Somehow, during this Kali-mah assault on me, I manage to trim his nails. But last time, I cut one too close and it began to bleed. I’m not overly startled by this as it happens from time to time especially when i’m working at the shelter but I still feel bad. Well Dono decided to add more insult to me by sitting calmly on my lap, grooming his sore paw for a good 10 minutes (even after it stopped bleeding) and just looking at me.

“See! You hurt me so bad, I don’t even want to get away or kill you. I’m in too much pain.” Although that pain went immediately away when the raisin’s appeared.

LMAO Mark! Oooo…you KNOW you’re in dutch when the bunny doesn’t even MOVE after the insult. Just kind of sits there and kills you with kindness. *giggles*
Dono seems like such a reserved bunny too. I would think that grudging behaviour was beneath him.
How do you handle those nips? Do they still make you flinch? I admit, mine make me jump-even though the buns don’t really grab me that hard, I’m always afraid they’re going to really dig in and I’ll pull back a bloody stump. Does it ever get any easier taking those teeth in a finger or arm?
I’ve seen a few of our members show off some real prize winning lacerations and, as badly as I do not want to clip too close on my bunnies I am equally afraid of bleeding myself. 0_o It’s not Mimz or Pip I worry about in this regard, but little half-pint Fiver, who can get seriously nasty when his mellow has been harshed.

I would be more fearful of Coco – she holds a serious, pillow or shoe peeing grudge. Jackson sat there and let me hold me. THEN he bit my arm. Not Hard, a a definite NIP. I figured I deserved it, and offered additional raisins. In addition to the papaya tablets.

He ignored me for most of today, although I did get one good nose rub in this morning. I was shocked at how much he Bled – it DID look a bit crime scene-ish.

Now, Had Mark nicked MaryAnn … She may have caused some serious, long term destruction….

Mark, can I just tell you how hard I laughed at the Kali-mah part of your description?

So I have just learned to take the nips from Dono. They still pinch and hurt a little but all I do is let out a loud squeal of pain to try and tell him it’s wrong. However, by the way he just ignores my cries and continues his attack, all I can think is that he wants to see how much he can make me squeal. Working with him and shelter buns, I’ve learned not to jump when I get nipped.

Yes, I have cut Maryann’s nails a little short a couple of times over the 7 years. However, she’s never really given me any attitude about it. She’s great at hiding her feet though when I’m trying to cut her nails and there’s no way I can trance her. However, she’s good at wearing her nails down… which gives me a whole new set of worries as to what she’s working on to keep them so short.

Ahh…I see Maryann has been communicating with Pip. Hence why all of a sudden my bun looks like she’s on rollers instead of paws when the clippers come out. ^_^ I am always afraid I am pulling those feet of hers out too far to the side because she keeps whipping them back under her skirt.

I know how brittle a bunny’s back can be, but what about the legs and feet? Are they as easily breakable? This worries me a great deal.

Just an update, There is a serious bun-grudge being nursed by Jackson for the last several days. I wrongly thought that he was going to be a bit more forgiving.

He now bolts into the maze and hides in the very back of the maze staring at me. I attempted to reach in, with papaya tablet in hand, to offer a nose rub. He boxed my hand.

and Mark – she’s most likely digging you an unmarked grave, just in case she ever needs to hide your body in a hurry.

not sure if this was mentioned- but if you cut a nail too short you can use styptic powder that is sold in pet stores- or just as easily flour or cornstarch-it helps the blood to clot- just be sure not to wipe the end of the nail off too quickly and remove the powder right away.

I have used flour and cornstarch many times- and it works just as well as the quickstop- and I ALWAYS know where the flour container is- just make sure to put some in a little dish or bowl as you waste it by using bloody fingers to pack the powder against the nail.

I have trimmed hundreds of pet nails- work at a vet clinic- and I admit I clip one too short on my own every so often.  It happens- but it is really not so bad- probably more traumatic for me the clipper- and my husband- the holder than the bunny!
