I have a mini rex baby, Olive ( Ill have to check her pedigree at home to get her exact age. ) who is really struggling. She was going to be a show bunny, but she has a bad hip that the vet said was either broken or dislocated in the nest box or when the mom was trying to wean her. She does not seem in pain and she hops around perfectly fine.
After figuring that problem out, she was moved inside because she was getting too cold and losing weight. Back to the vet. Nothing he could find. She started putting weight back on but since we switched to a really nice local feed, she refuses to eat it. She was never a big hay eater either. So she drastically started losing weight and shes a skeleton. I think last night she went into the beginnings of stasis. i couldn’t find a syringe, so we got her to eat some lettuce, and “force” fed her some ground up pellets. She started eating a little bit of it, but not much.
Putting her away for the night, I grabbed some alfalfa hay that I had gotten for her, and put that and her grass hay in her little box in her cage. Her food and water was right next to it as well and she was eating the alfalfa a little bit and she was drinking her water. She will eat the oats that I mix in. Could she not like the pellets? I have no problem buying her another brand of pellets, she is the only bun I have that’s having a problem with it, all my others have gained weight.
I’m getting a syringe tonight and she’s been monitored all night. I know it’s important to keep her eating something.
