        Hello there 🙂

I just recently got 2 littermates (M-Joey and F-Zoey) and was told they were 8/9 weeks. The past week they’ve been best of friends, napping, grooming and playing with each other but this morning around 6am I was woking up to them having a massive fight in their cage.
I let them out to see what the issue was and they play, then out of no where Zoey pucks Joey. Zoey is a little bigger then Joey (think he may have been the runt of the litter) so I’m worried she is going to hurt him. As at the moment he is terrified of her.

My question is, as they are not yet neutered because they are so young should I keep them completely separate for now? As in separate cages and also separate play times.

And if so will this make it more difficult to bond them after neutering? as I read an article here saying babies can’t bond

Sorry for long message but trying to get all info in, thank you in advance!

        CH

Yes, you should keep them completely separated from each other from now on. There’s also a possibility one is next sexed correctly so this will not only guarantee safety, but also prevent any unexpected pregnancy.

Baby rabbits get along well with others due to a lack of hormonal drive, rather than because they are littermates. Rabbits do not acknowledge family units as we do. Brothers and sisters and parents will all mate and fight.

Baby bonds are not permanent. They often break as the rabbits grow. Bonding doesn’t happen until after both rabbits are fixed. The best thing you can do to set up the best success of a formal bond is ensure no negative interactions occur between them any more.

I’ll have to wait awhile before I can fix them just so they’re big enough so I shall keep them separated until then.

Thank you Wick for the advice!

Hopefully once they’re both fixed they can get back to being bonded and play together.
