Are beet greens the same as beetroot greens? If not can, rabbits eat beetroot greens.

They are the same. So they would be fine to give your rabbit. Wonder though why they don’t just call it beets? Funny.

Last time I brought beets with the greens home, J was sooo happy that I gave the greens to the buns and did not make him eat them!

My buns loved the beet greens. I do too – saute them and serve with the roasted beet roots – but J hates the bitterness.

I thought they were, I am finding it hard getting a lot of veggies that are suitable for rabbits. I have been told that Chinese vegetables ae good for rabbits, if so does anyone know what ones are good?

Do you mean like Bokchoy? That’s fine, it’s on the list from House Rabbit Society. Can you get cilantro? I’m not sure that is a chinese vegetable but I know they use it in Thai cooking.

Yes and Pakchoy, Choysum. I can’t get cilantro, they loved chicory but no one has it anymore, I can get Endive and sometimes carrot tops. I get Cellery all the time and parsley, mint etc. I also cannot get Romain,

I have yet to feed my rabbits bokchoy…not sure Cilantro is Asian either, but I have given Floppy Thai Basil and he seems
to like it more than the Italian Sweet Basil. I haven’t tried cooking beets so it kind of sucks I can’t buy the greens seperately..
or at least I haven’t seen it sold that way.

Be prepared for red urine after the bunnies eat the beet tops. This is normal.

Mine liked bokchoy but they only ate the green leafy part (really like 1/3 of the whole leaf) so since it’s expensive, and they basically don’t eat much I gave up!

K&K: I don’t know if you already shop there, but for whatever it’s worth, the T&T Asian grocery market at West Edmonton Mall sells vegetables for considerably less than at conventional grocery stores. Giant carrots for cheap! Also bok choy (ours will also only eat the leaf) and other “Asian” veggies that our bunnies love. This might make buying the bok choy a little more bearable.

I am growing beets and radish particularly for the greens on top for cotton. gesh after all this I hope he likes them lol. I am sure he will. I am growing carrots too I like them real small they are sweeter and the tops of course for cotton.  I dont’ like beats and radish all that much but home grown I notice they are a lot tastier.

Hey Y’all, I love beats! Here is my favorite way to cook them:

Pre heat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
Peel the root – you can wear rubber gloves if you don’t want to get your hands all red.
                                Cut into bite sized chunks.
Toss with olive oil & salt.
                                Wrap in aluminum foil.
Roast in the oven until tender – depending on size, about 30 to 45 minutes.
Serve hot as a side to your dinner OR allow to cool and toss in a salad with orange slices and lettuce greens.
                                Yum!

cilantro is called coriander outside of the US (and maybe Canada too, not sure).  Is coriander available in Australia?

Yes, we have coriander; do you know what romaine is? As I have never heard of it.

Oh great – I didn’t even think of the other name for coriander.

I looked up Romaine and it might also be called “cos” – does that sound familiar to you?

Sage Cat that is a delectible recipe!!! I am going to have to try it, thank you!!! That’s a great way to feed your rabbits the greens and keep the root for yourself.

Yes we have cos, I gave them some the other day but they had a bit of diahrea so I took it off the list.
