What have y’all paid for rabbit neuters?

Called around today and got a HUGE difference…from $70 (the shelter) to over $300!

One was $125 from a vet I’ve used before, think that is the way to go.  Shelter is a long way out on appointments anyhow.

It really depends on where you live as well as the size of the providers. I would say $300+ is definitely on the higher end and I do not think that cost is justified if you have an alternative, trustworthy provider who is offering less.

It really does depend on where you live. Prices can vary widely. I think $125 is perfectly reasonable, but $300 isn’t unheard of. The shelter may be able to offer a low cost spay/neuter clinic ($70). This option may be OK too, but you will want to check to see how many rabbits they do and their success rate. You’ll often find that the vet doing the low cost clinic for the shelter is actually a local vet with their own practice.

There are only a couple vets here who take rabbits and they charge cat prices, and both of by boys were about $100 a couple years ago. That said, I’ve noticed everything with the vets is suddenly 2 to 3 times more expensive so I’m sure the neuter would be at least $200 now. Call around and ask, and also ask how they anesthesize the rabbit, how many rabbit specifical neuters/surgeries they do, etc. I know it’s expensive but the cost is wasted money if you end up with a vet who isn’t experienced with rabbits and their special needs.
