Attacked by a cat!!!!

Layla was attacked by my housemate’s cat earlier. I was watching television in my room when one of my good friends was over. He’s moving in in a couple of weeks, and was going around taking measurements. Apparently when he left my third floor apartment he didn’t completely shut the door, and my housemate’s cat snuck in and up the steps. Bugger moved silently too, I didn’t hear a thing until there was a ruckus at the bunny cage behind me.

Luckily Layla was in her cage and when the cat went for her, she just hid in her little grass hut out of reach. I chased the cat out of the room and checked her over to make sure she was ok. I didn’t see any blood, scrapes, or anything. She seemed to be ok other than her heart racing a mile a minute.

Anything I should look out for? I made sure she got to run around extra long once I was sure the cat was out of the area to make up for the scare a little bit. Like I said, everything looks ok, I didn’t see any injuries. I’m just concerned.

You can use a blowdrier on low, and cool to search for scraches. It’ll move the fur for you so you can look.

It sounds like she may be OK especially if she hid. I love animals but I think I would have cornered that cat and dumped some water on it (not harmful but cat’s natural enemy ) I would have been MAD!!

IF you do find any scratches/abrasions, if they are very small you can clean with some diluted peroxide (fifty fifty with water) and put on polysporin/neosporin (just not the ‘plus’ kind with the pain reliever) Anything big and she should be seen by a vet!

Sounds like she’s going to be fine though

im sure if she ran to hide she will be fine, if you cant see anything then she is probably just abit shaken

Glad your bun is okay! Better tell your roomate-to-be to make sure he shuts the door or bunny will give him the boot

I am deciding whether or not to tell him, haha. He’s the sort of guy who would feel extremely, EXTREMELY bad about it. For now I am just living in the fact that the frisky feline is moving out on the 30th, haha.

I urge you to tell him. Today he has nothing to feel bad about since Layla is OK, but he may need to take some precautions in his living set up and placement of the cat’s things to prevent another incident. At least he can keep a watchful eye on his cat, and make sure he closes the doors securely. He sounds nice, but needs to know. Oh, if I misread and it’s not his cat, he will be even less aware of it being a problem.

Yes I agree you should tell him.  It was an accident and he’ll think next time.  Cats do have very sharp nails so do keep a watch out as those nails can do some damage.  Glad the bun seems ok.

I felt better w/ leaving the rabbits unsupervised around the cats when they had good, bunny only hide spots…but after I moved that chair (hey I hear those chuckles), I didn’t feel so safe.  I think you should talk to the roommate.  You need to come up w/ a plan b/c accidents do happen.  You can tell him that nothing happened this time, but you want to make sure that you both have a plan in place, just in case.  Especially b/c you may have visitors or even if the landlord or someone needs to access your apt.  I always tell parents (human) that it’s better plan for a crisis than have to deal w/ one w/o a plan.

My cat and Tucker are good friends but I still don’t like to leave them alone unsupervised.  I will for like short periods (like if I am going upstairs or something) but not while we go out usually.  And honestly it’s not even the cats’ fault lol atleast not in our case.  Most times they lounge together just fine, they’ll lounge together and play in his play house together.  But sometimse Peanut just has one of those days..we all know those days lol when we just want to lay down on the cool tile in the sunshine..ok maybe not COMPELTELY like that..but you know what I mean hehee…and Tucker just doesn’t understand that so Tucker will jump on my cat to get her to play but my cat is a rehabilitated feral cat (or so the shelter says but if you ever met my cat you’d think they were just selling sob stories hehe) who is now the absolute diva in the house and she doesn’t take crap from anyone.  So when he jumps on her to play sometimes she’ll oblige..if she’s feeling particularly nice that day  Otherwise she’ll bat at him and chase him back into his pen.  Now..she won’t go into his pen..and she honestly doesn’t mean any harm she doesn’t even have her claws out when she bats him….she just wants him to leave her alone.  So if he stays in the pen or comes out and doens’t bother her she won’t bother him again..but unfortunately Tucker just doesn’t know any better..or LIKES the chase and so he does it again and again.  Eventually I have to just put Peanut (the cat) on the other side of the gate so that Tucker stops harassing her and she gets some peace.   I’m always afraid that the next time’s going to be the straw that breaks the kitty’s back  and she’ll go nuts on his hyper butt!

So, I’d definitely tell the roommate too..even if the cat doesn’t mean to if the rabbit decides that hiding is for sissies (as Tucker has so stupidly done) then next time the bunny could get hurt.
