So…. we took Koji downstairs for a run for 15 minutes or so tonight. He’s been really active tonight and wanting to explore on top of desks while we’re trying to do homework, so I took him for a new area to explore. He’s basically free range upstairs right now, so long as I’m home. No problems so far so I was thinkint it would be okay to let him roam a bit except… I slipped inside the laundry room to start some laundry while he was romping. I thought the door latched shut behind me…..

Koji is a ninja. Seriously. All the time he will be asleep in his cage and suddently licking the bottoms of my feet. I don’t know how he moves so silenty, but he does. I heard a noise, turned around, and there he was. Eating the cat food out of the bowls in the laundry room. I scooped him up as quickly as possible, but you know how quick a rabbit can eat when he’s into something I’m sure. And he may have had a couple seconds before I heard the tink tink of food scooting in the ceramic bowls. So not sure exactly how many pieces he managed to nab.

It is high quality sensitive tummy cat food, Science Diet I think, so that should mitigate some of the “junk food” factor. But still high protein and more carbs than he needs, I’m sure. To top that off he got a baby carrot and a sliver of tomato today with his greens. I’m mostly concerned that he may have ingested too many sugars today, as I don’t have the bag to see what the nutrition content is on the cat food. I’m sure there’s nothing I can do besides provide hay and water and keep an eye on him, but I thought I’d double check.

Anyone else have a brave bunny who has tried something absolutely no-no and carnivorous? Without disastrous results I’m hoping? I’m feeling just terrible and guilty right now.

One of mine, Toby, has an appetite for cat food too. He started sneaking into the kitchen and chowing down on both dry Purina One Urinary Tract Health and the can of wet Friskies they get. I mean I can grab him and pick him up and he’s got his paws around the bowl trying to keep his face in it. Talk about stinky fish breath, eau……

He never gets more than a few bites but I can’t figure out what his obsession with it it. Now that he knows I’m listening, he’ll run in, grab a bite and run out again.

Okay, thanks, that’s comforting to know somebun else has done the same and lived to tell the tale. Sneaky devil, I can’t believe he would like cat food, but I guess he really will eat anything.

As long as it’s only once and a little bit he’ll be fine.

I know some people that feed their cats on the countertop to avoid this kind of thing, but have no idea how well it works.

Things that Pepper has eaten with no ill effects: candles, soap, hair conditioner (but her fur was really shiny for about a week), a lemon, the occasional pretzel, dry spaghetti, and just last night she was nibbling on a free sample packet of shampoo.  Sigh.

My Bubba’s a garberator, he will eat just about anything, includign Chilli Paste! (ouch). he likes hamster food if he can get at it, and i am sure cat food would be a nummy treat if we had a cat LOL
Just make sure he’s eating/drinking his regular rabbit diet, he shoudl be fine.

(oh i had a hamster eat an eraser once! and he was toally fine lol)

MJ got into the bag of Puppy Chow and was just fine. He’s also eaten ultramarine blue paint and the only thing he hurt was my stomach from laughing at his blue face.

Though we should obviously never encourage eating things like that, I think bunnies are a bit more hardy than we give them credit for.

Lint will eat dog kibble if it’s available to him. I have to make sure it isn’t. My dogs’ kibble is the grain-free kind, 70% meat!

Animals are sure funny. I boarded my mare at the local rodeo grounds and after any public event, she’d unlock her stall and go through all the dumpsters and cans looking for cigarette butts and food scraps. She got loose at the BarBQ cookoff once and was strolling the grounds bumming food and booze off people who thought she was part of the entertainment.

I learned how to deal with colic, to say the least. and there’s nothing crankier than a 1,200 lb hangover.

LOL Kralspace – I can just hear your drunk horse singing “Home on the Range” and smoking cigarettes.

Happy to say – he was lazy this morning, and peed on my bed in rage last night when I stopped giving the pets for literally 10 seconds to make a note while listening to a lecture (demanding jerkface – at least it only was a small spot and not a full on I had to pee and only got the sheets). But otherwise no problems since the incident.

I can’t believe a rabbit ate toiletries!! We have the kind of stairs that go all the way one floor down without a landing and turn midway. And hardwood. I’ve been trusting Koji to have the good sense not to try to take himself downstairs and fall down and break his neck. After his escapade downstairs I guess he was encouraged because he went down one step. I’ve decided I can no longer trust him to have ANY good sense, so I’ll have to get a gate. These stories have reaffirmed that assessment – crazy animals.

                          I love the horse. Hah.

                            LOL… too funny.
I had a friend with a dog who stole beer, you had to be very careful with your beer at parties or it’d be gone. She’d even open up the cans to lick the inside (ouch! dangerous).

A pony I knew LOVED peanut Butter and jam sandwiches, one of my own horses loves werthers candies, can’t blame him they are good.

My first horse loved pizza. Like, really??? Spicier sauce the better. What a nut!

We did have a beer drinking dog, too. I think that was my brothers fault for giving her beer in her bowl a couple times, she got the taste for it. I also had a rat who liked it. She would try to pry your lips open and steal it from inside your mouth if she smelled it on you. I wonder what it is about beer that smells good to animals?
