Are those what I think they are?

 So I was cuddling Bambi this evening, and while he was on his back chewing a sunflower seed like the happy little bun he is, I saw something that looked like a pair of mini little bunny testicles. This confused me, because Bambi is just turning two months, and I thought I wouldn’t see them for a month and a half. Is this normal? Should I be able to see this? I’m pretty sure they’re his testicles. 

 

Other than that, Bambi is super cute, almost completely litterbox trained, and binkys all over the place. He’s quite fun to watch.  I was also wondering how many sunflower seeds are okay to give him. I don’t want him to have a treat overload, and its much harder to say no to those cubby cheeks when I don’t really know how much exactly is too much.

Though on average testicles drop around 3 months, it’s not uncommon for them to drop a bit earlier. Also, are you 100% sure he is only 2 months? (and again, even if he is, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s too early for the testicles to drop)

Yep, I’d say those were putting in an appearance. As for the rest of his anatomy, well, I nicknamed Spockie’s “the toothpick” when his hormones kicked in.

For small treats you could try raisins, or even cut a craisin in half (Katnipcrzy just said she does that.)

 I am 100% sure that he is two months. So those were what I thought they were? Hm…interesting. What age would you recommend a neuter at? I’ve heard both when the testies drop and at five months, Bambi and I have a road trip to my apartment around the end of July and would like to get him fixed a while before all of the stress of the move happens.

The bunny boys were less than three months old when theirs dropped. They were neutered a week later. They did great. :0)

My vet was able to show me Otto’s testicles at 8 weeks, though I don’t think I would’ve noticed them on my own because they were covered with a lot of hair. So seeing them at 2 months isn’t that unusual!

Wow. I’m actually pretty excited that I can get him taken care of way before the move! Thanks for all of the advice. I didn’t realize how quickly the little guy would really grow up. It’s only been to weeks! Ha. But it’s okay. I keep catching myself wanting him to get bigger, because then there will be more bunny to love!  He’s such a little cuddle butt.

I got one of my boys neutered when he was still pretty young, but I do not know how old he was for sure. I know that boys recover much more quickly from a neuter than females recover from a spay, so I would be more comfortable having a boy neutered at a younger age than a girl spayed at a younger age.

It may be up to your vet. My vet, who did the more complicated spay for my girl, wanted me to wait at least 5 months but not more than 7 or 8 so she could be grown enough to do the surgery at minimal risk to her other organs. But of course, the neuter is less delicate and risky. I’d say tell your vet about your plans and ask when s/he’d recommend you book an appointment. If there’s time, factor in several days for recovery before moving him.

Thanks, I think she’s pretty but then I am very biased.   She’s officially a mutt – a bit of this a bit of that.  Personally, I suspect part mini lop just due to the shape of her ear tips.  So crossed with an uppy ear breed.  I sent her pic to a breeder/rescuer once and she thought part Flemish x smaller breed   but she’s only 5 lbs.  I can see a bit of English spot in her and lately I’m suspecting some Dutch due to her size and cunning nature.  So there you have it….mini lop x flemmie x english spot x dutch…..and anything else you want to throw in.  :  )

 Thanks. I think he’s a cutie.  I made an appointment for Bambi the man bunny’s checkup and, if the vet thinks he’s ready, his possible neuter. I’m excited about it just because this little he man’s litter box training is going away at an alarming rate, or at least it is when he’s out of his cage. So, does neutering usually mellow bunnies out more? I know it changes personalities- how did your buns’ personatilties change?

I haven’t had my bun neutered yet, but I can tell you that I’ve read that it can make the bunny last a longer, healthier, and happier, life. He’s cute! Good luck!

HI Amanda- any and all seeds and nuts are bad for bunnies. If you go to the top of this website and click on “bunny info” and then click on “diet.” There is lists there for suggestions for food and treats.

amanda – yes, neutering will mellow him out a bit regarding his territorial, litterbox and sexual behaviors. As far as his energy level, he’s young, so he’ll still have tons of energy!

Hahaha…okay. That doesn’t sound like too much of a change. 

 

As for Bambi’s diet, Heidi, he gets unlimited Bunny Basics pellets and hay- the sunflower seeds are in no way a large part of his diet. He only gets a teaspoon a couple times a week, and it’s more of a treat than anything. It’s helped to start training him to have good behaviors, plus he now knows what “Up, Bambi!” means. Cutest thing ever.
