I have a cat named Vinci. He is VERY weird. Not social at all, doesn’t ever really purr, super awkward and skittish. Spends most of his life hiding. On very rare occasions will want to be pet and will lay with the other cats, but is just as likely to awkwardly creep in on the other cats sleeping and just lay on top of them until they get annoyed and leave. Anyway, my point is he’s weird and it’s hard to judge his feelings about anything because he is so awkward.
So I noticed him and Bunnius are around each other quite often, but I can’t tell if this is a sign of affection or not. Bunnius completely tolerates him invading spaces that are “hers” and I was wondering if this was a sign that she liked him or just a sign that he’s way bigger than her and she’s resigned to him being there. She has her litter box, food and water in a large, low sided plastic bin, just to contain any spills or mess. Vinci will frequently go and drink her water and eat some of her hay, and she will just be lying there right beside it, unperturbed. The cat will also go sleep in her den and if he’s in there Bunnius will just lay down on the outside, as close as she can get, and seems fine, even though she doesn’t like anyone reaching in there usually. They will also sit butt to butt, not facing each other, for long periods of time. There is almost never any direct interaction between the two of them, they just seem to be around each other frequently. Is Bunnius allowing him in her space a sign that she likes him? What does affection from a bunny to another animal look like? She doesn’t try and groom him or anything, but if she did I think he would just run away. Is this a budding interspecies friendship or am I just reading too much into this?
