I know I have been on here every two minutes with a worry and their vet appointment was scheduled for wednesday but I now have to work so it won’t be until Friday :/ just these bunnies have come from a pet store. The girl bunny has those cecal poops stuck to her butt! It’s those kinds that they are SUPPOSE to eat and I saw two globs on the floor of the cage and a bit stuck to her butt. I don’t think her brother ate his either but his butt is clean.  But when I was cleaning her butt it smelt SOOOOOO bad I was gagging. There were some that were soft and squishy and bunched together and there were a few of her regular, hard round pebble poops in it too so I know she is still making hard poops but the smell has me so worried she has an infection or something! Plus the fact that they aren’t eating their cecals has me worried… Isn’t that kind of poop vital to their GI tract?? With them only being a few months old is it ok to take away the pellets until there cecals get better looking?

Cecals are very stinky. My buns only “drop” a cecal once in a blue moon, but if they do, I know immediately and find it and clean it up.

Excess cecals aren’t a concern if it’s just once. It could be them adjusting to changes in diet. If it continues to happen, some diet changes might be needed. I wouldn’t fret too much just yet. Make sure they have a fecal exam at the vet.

I agree-I wouldn’t take away pellets just yet, if it’s only once. But you’ll want to entice them into eating more hay if possible.

Thank you guys for the reassurance. I cleaned her poopy butt yesterday trying my hardest not to gag and this morning viola! no cecals stuck and no globs laying around so I guess it was just a one time thing. She has been giving me the cold shoulder since cleaning her and she is still pretty mad at me this morning but you got to do what you got to do!

Yup, cleaning up cecals is pretty gag inducing. Hard to imagine such cute little fluffies can make such a smell!
