  It’s getting really humid here, so I need to know if humidity has the same effect on temperature for bunnies as it does humans? Does anyone know if bunnies’ pours work the same way humans’ pours do?

  Humidity affects them just the same. Bunnies do not have pores like humans, they cannot sweat so they can over heat easily.

  Do you have central air conditioning? Running your air conditioning will take the humidity out of the house.

  Our air conditioner is out right now. My room is at a steady 81 degrees F and I don’t like it one bit. I’m trying desperately to keep my bunnies from having heat stroke. I have a bowl of ice cubes in front of an oscillating fan at my door and bought sun-blocking curtains to keep the sun out.
  
  Ugh, I can’t wait to move into my apartment where my air conditioner only has to cool 500sq ft and I can keep my bunnies in comfort! Two weeks away!!

  Fans don’t cool down rabbits to the same degree as people because rabbits don’t sweat (damp skin plus wind makes us experience a cooling effect), but the fan will dry up some of the humidity so use one.

  Really? Humidity does affect bunnies? I thought it wouldn’t just because I thought the reason if affected us was because water does not evaporate off us as easily in humid weather. And I thought that since bunnies did not sweat then it did not affect them. Why does it affect them? I’m just curious.

  Thats really hot, you need to take preventative measures. I freeze large pop bottles and place them around the cage/room, ceramic tiles are good, and if they’re really hot (if their ears are hot to the touch) you can place a damp cloth over their ears or spray their ears with water.

  Brianne’s suggestions along with what you are doing are the types of methods would work best in this situation. Fans will help just from moving the air. It will help move air over their ears where they try regulate their temperature themselves. Avoid having fan directly on them though.
  Do you have a bath? Often the surface of the bath is nice and cool. I’ve thought about putting ice in the bath before. Covering it with a heavy rug then sitting the rabbits on top.
