I usually give the two monsters a couple of apple sticks every few days or so but it just occurred to me, would that count as a treat? I kind of lumped it under the same category as dried leaves and flowers, i e. forage, but what do you guys think? And should they be limited at all?

I’d class them as forage, not treats. I imagine they are quite fibrous and its not like they’re loaded with sugar like the actual fruit is. I’d limit them to am extent, but not in the way that treats are limited. You could probably give a couple every day without any trouble.

I also classified it as same as willow sticks, so not a ‘treat’ treat. Although I do have to remove willow tunnels when I buy them or they get totally demolished in a day.

              Cool, thanks guys

My rabbits demolish willow toys pretty quickly most of the time too. They once ate 90% of a large willow basket overnight ?

I gave Panda and Fernando a willow ball one time and they turned it into willow matchsticks literally overnight. I’ve stuck to woven-grass and hardwood balls and toys ever since. They were a bit iffy about willow sticks for some reason at first last year when I started offering them, but more recently they’ve taken to them with great delight, which is as it should be since they make ideal chewables. I’ve never been able to find any apple wood sticks for sale, but if I do I’ll get some and see if they like them.

Bam had apple twigs every day during his weight loss dieting. He steadily lost weight just as he was supposed to, so apple sticks are not fattening. They’re not treat-treats, as S&L says. They’re more like enrichment I’d say.
