I did not see Acorns listed on the House Rabbit Society Veggie List …. but the list I found there was only a vegetable list.

Some others on different sites state acorns are safe, but I only trust hearing from my friends here at Binky Bunny. ….

My yard is full of acorns ….. so I am interested to know if they are indeed safe for my bun ?

I’m going to guess that they aren’t. But I’d wait and see what others say, I don’t know for sure!

I would assume not, just my gut feeling.

Since foliage of the oak trees is not considered safe, I would also assume that acorns are not safe.

BunyLiz you are right! No nuts for rabbits. They are high in starch and can cause an impaction in the stomach, do you have any fruit trees in your yard instead? Apple trees are great things, bunnies can chomp on branches, foliage and have a slice of apple too. Be careful with any fruit tree that has a pit – the wood can be toxic.

Thanks everyone !    I am glad I checked here on Binky Bunny …… now I know for sure ….. NO acorns for Bonnie Lee.

And yes … I do have a small apple tree we planted 2 years ago …. I have already cut a few twigs for her to chew on.

I also gathered her a couple pine cones, but she does not have too much interest in the pine cones.   We still have jalapeno pepper plants growing in our garden and my bun loves the leaves from the pepper plants.     When I hear of frost coming, I am going to pull up the plants  before the front hits them and I plan to dry the leaves …. so she can have some late in the fall.    I have already dried some out and she enjoys them dry too.
