Following on from the last March post, I’m not a fan of April fool’s jokes either, but my youngest son is, so when he’d just woken up, I told him the local Domino’s had closed down ![]()
Course, once I’d reminded him of the date, I ordered Domino’s for lunch, as an Easter holiday treat ![]()
I love jokes that are in good nature. For instance last year I decorated all my husband’s work lunch with googly eyes.
. I am not a fan of the “oh we are pregnant or breaking up” pranks that seem so popular among people my age. I have no plans for him this year but I may post a fake news story or something.
side note : watching the bunny sleep right now… He keeps lifting one of his hind legs up and putting it back down.. wonder what he’s dreaming about!
I just got totally attacked by mine. lol
I was eating a bowl of steamed rice, veg, and fish, and he smelled the fish (which he loves) and pounced on me. He scooched all over me (even stood with two paws on my head and then tried to stick his mouth in my mouth) until I fed him all the tiny bits of green bean. Then, satisfied that he pillaged all he could, he binkied off and flopped out for a snooze on his little woven rug.
I swear, he’s such an incorrigibly cheeky monkey and if he smells food, he acts like a total starvin’ marvin. He should totally audition for one of the hungry orphan roles in a Charles Dickens adaptation. lol

Oh yes… April Fool’s jokes. There are so many that are pulled in my neighborhood! And ones that genuinely freak me out! Like today, they said that the grocery store near town is closing down. *sighs*
Pranks I would never pull or want pulled on me (ones I kinda feel have crossed the line) include:
Breaking up pranks
Cheating pranks
Pregnancy pranks
Death of loved ones or pets
Marriage proposal
or things along those lines
Fake news stories were mentioned a couple times. When I was in college, the school newspaper did an April Fools edition with a bunch of spoof stories. One story, which featured a celebrity, was actually picked up online by other news sources and some people thought the story was real. LOL
Nothing really happened today. I guess people weren’t in the mood for pranks?
We built goose a c&c cage we looked like fools
RabbitPam: Brilliant!
I’ll start running lines with Chewie right away. teeheehee
Pretty productive day for the first weekend of April. We moved house last August and there’s still boxes in the spare room I haven’t unpacked. So I went through three of them today
I found my Lion King soundtrack CDs so I’m currently relaxing to the legacy collection CD which is pretty much a complete score and so gorgeous to listen to.
Good on you, Azerane! Chewie and I had a really intense week, but the book is proofed/approved now and back to the publishers, so we are doing precisely what we had planned this weekend: impersonating the sloths in Zootopia.
Movie scores are my favourite thing to listen to when I’m driving.
Guess who has just got back from seeing ZOOTOPIA ??!! Me !!!
That Shakira song got my bum wiggling and my toes a tapping !!
They have SO set it up for a sequel Zootopia 2…. brill !! (The “best” Disney? I’m not convinced, but very good !!)
Okay, I just came home with a bunch of junk from Target. The Easter stuff was 70% off. Including all of the of bunny stuff. o_O There are already bunnies on my desk at work. Boy, my coworkers are going to think I’m so weird. LOL
Ah, today is so much nicer than yesterday. It was cold and rainy yesterday. Today it’s sunny and in the 60s. Gonna be warm tomorrow!
I would love a sale of Easter bunny-.stuff =) I was so happy when I accidentally found coffea-mugs with bunnies on them in a food-store last summer, 1 dollar for 3 mugs. They make me smile every time I take one out of my cupboard =) I bought 3 for my mother too, she doesn’t have a bun but Bam has long since converted her into a bona-fide bunny lover.
Yesterday I planted 3 kinds of lettuce, dill and radishes. And I found this huge bunch of apple-twigs that someone hadn’t been able to fit into the very full compost-container. So this unknown apple-tree-pruning person had just put the twigs beside the container and I happened to find them! There has been some serious twig-munching in this house these last 2 days I can tell you!
Okay, I just need to complain a little ha ha.
I am just feeling SOO burned out right now. I’ve been sick the last several days(bad cough, congestion, eyes watering to the point I can’t see for minutes at a time, feeling overall weak/dizzy, migraines). On top of that I have school, animals to take care of, dishes to wash and dry (we don’t have a dish washer) dinner to cook and serve, chickens to feed and let out/put away and cleaning the house, fish tanks to maintain and Moxie’s area to maintain, everyday. On top of that I babysit several kids for 3 hours, at least one day a week. It can be pretty overwhelming! Especially when I haven’t slept the last few nights because I’ve been up all night coughing (and cough drops and cough medicine hasn’t been working).
I feel like I could use a nice long vacation!
Cleo has Another vet appointment on Monday. Hopefully we’ll be able to find out what’s wrong with her. She doesn’t really like this new food, and she especially won’t touch it if it’s been sitting in her bowl for more than 30 minutes. T.T She’ll also be getting her Rabies shot she’s due for, even though she never goes out.
Somebody found a bunny on the side of the road and brought it into our local shelter. It’s the cutest black Lionhead mix! Somebody posted on their facebook page that somebody had a rabbit that they just let run loose and they’d returned it to them several times but they just kept releasing it because the rabbit “liked it better that way” and that that rabbit might be it. I honestly don’t know how somebody could let a rabbit run free around town and not be worried? Cats are kinda different than rabbits, I think. Hopefully they either find the owner (if it’s a good owner) or a good home for him/her.
The bun is SUPER cute though. =)

Awesome
I loved it, no not the best. But the best in many years I think. ![]()
I also get very excited to see all of the rabbit things out for Easter, although unfortunately (and probably fortunately) I didn’t have the money to indulge. Next year ![]()
I got Moony! He is 4 months old! I drove 2 hours to pick him up today… the breeder is very good, educated, reputable, and showed me his teeth, genitals, eyes, testicles, and explained some aspects of being a show bunny to me (and why he won’t show well and is a pet, which is only because of a bit of discoloration). It turns out that he is a sable point, so I suppose she typed it wrong when she first told me. Both his parents are torts.
So far he is extremely extremely easy, quiet, calm. The breeder says he loves being held- he was held and cuddled with her husband while I was at their house.
But now that we have arrived home, I noticed he is shivering a bit… It has also been a couple hours, and he has not moved from the same spot and has not eaten hay, water, or pellets. I’m wondering how long it would take for him to adjust, and if he is adjusting?
Sorry Fiona, had to re-read your sentence, and then laugh. Indeed, WHAT a dedicated breeder he was !!
” the breeder is very good, educated, reputable, and showed me his teeth, genitals, eyes, testicles,..” !!! (shock horror !!)
Did you not think anything was awry when the breeder started showing you his teeth……? LOL
Sorry to hear bun is taking a while to settle…. keep him warm, if he’s stressed his body temp may drop…. make up a bit of banana mash for him maybe? Something scrummy to keep him eating…..
Bwhahahahaha! Vienna, you’re killing me! Yes, I think I would have ran out pretty quick if the breeder was that, uh, friendly.
Fiona – I wouldn’t worry terribly just yet. He’s in a new environment and is likely nervous. Just make him comfortable and avoid any unnecessary stress. Let him alone in his surroundings and he will start to settle after awhile.
OMG, I woke up this morning to find a swarm of ants in the kitchen!
My husband had sealed stuff off last year so we were hoping they would stay away. They seemed to have found another way. *sigh* I washed a bunch of them down the sink and put ant baits out. I resisted the urge the drown them in Raid. I want them to eat the bait and take it back to the colony so we can get them all.
Vienna, I didn’t get it at first but then I did!!! My goodness, if a bunny breeder had shown me his …yes, well. Nuff said!
LBJ, I hope you’ll get the ants.
Fiona, I hope Moony has started to come around. Have you given him a hidey house? It could make him feel safer.
For a prey animal it’s pretty wise to lay low for a bit when he’s in a new and foreign place. But since he’s very young, he should soon perk up and start exploring. P,lease keep us updated on his progress!
Hello guys, and LOL I did not know that’s not the norm. She basically explained to me that she’s showing me all his parts, because some people sell to pet homes due to undisclosed health issues- not inform the buyer about it. Makes sense right? So there we are. Now I know what a bunny’s genitals look like!
Bahaha
Moony settled in extremely well… His personality has already shown through since yesterday… He is so so so sweet, gentle, trusting, cuddly and snuggly! He actually loves being held and carried around. ;__; It’s pretty much exactly what I was hoping for, and the breeder did not lead me astray… I’m very very glad I got a bunny from her. She actually came across me purely by luck too.
Moony’s favorite position of being carried seems to be leaning against your chest with his paws on your chest… Even when I have him carried sideways, he will scoot his little butt around to sit facing forward so that he is facing me. It is the cutest thing I have ever seen. ;_; He is also not fearful at all of my dogs, not fearful of anything really… He is so trusting of people, social, loving, and loves being pampered in people’s arms. My parents love him too.
Almost 4 months old now! I think I might have gotten a perfect bunny for me. Honestly, I totally lucked out with this bunny and this breeder. Guys, it’s worth it to get a bun from this kind of breeder, despite the genitals. LOL
To top it off, he’s very auto well-litterbox trained. He has not pooped once when hanging outside with me, and all his poops are in his litterbox in the pen!
This is my mom holding him…

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE! He’s so cuuuuuuuute!
*faints*
Agh! Tried to post and got an error.
Fiona – Aww, what a little doll! I love him! And I’m sorry, you might not have gotten our joke. Or maybe you did?
Bam – Stupid ants aren’t taking the bait. They are odorous ants, which tend to be picky and immune to a lot of ant baits. My husband cut a hole in the top of the little “ant motel” and put a little sugar water in there to hopefully entice them a little more.
Sprinkle some cinnamon around where they get in. They won’t walk across the stuff. And white vinegar will erase the scent trails they leave, so they won’t try to follow it back in.
Monkeybun!!!!!!! =D
Hmm, we might have to try the cinnamon if they don’t find the sugar water laced with ant bait delicious. So it just repels them?
Aaahah I didn’t get the joke until just now, I think because the breeder is a woman LOL. :B
He is cute!! (Not the breeder, but Moony… ha) The only thing I noticed is that Moony won’t eat anything (no veggies or hay) when I’m looking/won’t eat from my hand. But if I leave it there in his bowl, leave, come back, then it’s all gone. :-0 Is eating from hand something that can be trained?
Oh Fiona, Moony is, well, SQUEEEEEE! What a precious boy!!! Sorry about the joke, your original post could be interpreted a bit like the breeder showed you his own (the breeder’s) teeth and all the rest – but that was of course not the case. It really is good to know the anatomy of your bun and how everything is supposed to look. Your breeder seems very good and thorough. And again, Moony is beautiful!! I bet he is just SO soft!!
LBJ, I have very little experience with indoor ants, but sugar-water + bait sounds clever. Cinnamon is a widely use repellant here as well.
Moony is adorable!
I’m currently watching highlights from the F1 Bahrain Grand Prix. ![]()
I’m not big on watching/following sports (except maybe for cricket, but I love watching the F1). I’m just disappointed that they’re only showing highlights and not the full race.
Wheee! My neighbours! ![]()
Fiona—- He’s so adorable!!! ![]()
He isss, thanks guys! ;; He is soft like a cloud.
This is a random question, but I was wondering how I can tell if a lionhead is too skinny/overweight? How do I feel him?
And for a 4 month old lionhead, how much pellets should he be eating and how often? Should pellets always be available to him, like hay? Or should he finish it and just be left with hay for awhile?
Since he’s growing he still needs to have pellets. I wouldn’t feed them unlimited, I would probably feed 1/4-1/2 cup pet day and once he slows down his growth decrease it to the recommended amount 1/4 cup per 5-7 pounds of rabbit.
Alright, sounds good… I think I have been overfeeding him a bit, which is probably why he was not eating veggies or hay as much LOL. :s
I also just noticed him sit up and lurch a few times just now, and I’m worried… I thought he was pooping, but there is no poop.
Ur… guys, I need a bit of help. It seems his personality has turned upside down ever since I let him out last night for binkies around the room. I put him back (his pen is in my bedroom) to sleep, he was making noise chewing on the cardboard box, so I took that out and went to sleep. This morning, I found that he has completely trashed his pen, and it seems to be intentional from anger. His aspen and poo and pee is EVERYWHERE. He didn’t do this at all in the past few days since I brought him home- he was very clean!
So… bunnies getting angry? Did I spoil him too quickly? I don’t want this to happen again. Or do I need to neuter him asap?
He also suddenly HATES being picked up or petted. If I pet him, he hops away. If I try to pick him up even from within his cage, he slips away. This was all ever since last night when I let him out for binkies!
I also have this same post in another thread… I just need some help asap, whatever I should do before this personality turn gets worse!
Sounds like you got your first dose of bunnytude!
He has had a little time to settle in and is starting to feel more comfortable and confident. Perfect time to start teaching his bunny slave what’s what. First lesson: Do not lock bunny up if bunny isn’t ready.
You may try to get back on his good side by making a craisin offering.
I guess he would appreciate more play time, if that’s an option.
He’s super cute by the way!
Give him lots of stuff he can destroy, cardboard, apple and willow twigs. Fleece blankies (cheapest kind) to dig in. If he won’t let you sleep, you really should think of moving his pen out of your room or set up a separate night-pen for him outside your room. Whatever you do, don’t get up and fuss over him in the night, because that reinforces the behavior (Wow, I got mommy to get up, yippee, I’m a 100% doing it again soon as she goes back to sleep!)
Most buns do hate being picked up, but most buns love being pet – on their own terms. Esp on the head, nape of neck and ears.
He’s clearly out of his shy-newcomer-mode, and that is a good thing because he is a young bun and he should be full of spirit and bunnitude and adventure.
You can get him neutered when his testes has descended. But give him a week or so now to get his bearings.
LOL seriously, bunnytude! It amuses me, but also totally weirded me out this morning. I guess I have to accept that his personality is apparently showing through for the first time, and apparently didn’t even show through at all when with his breeder or going around doing photoshoots. Cray!
Do all bunnies like raisins? It seems he’s pickier than most, but I’ll go out and buy some if it is a universal bunny thing!
I think moving the pen out of my room might be a good idea haha- so he can continue playing and I can actually sleep. And thanks for the heads up on the behavior reinforcing!
Don’t worry, so far he’s still treating you pretty well. It can get SO much worse…
Most bunnies like craisins, they’re called bunny crack after all. Since he’s still a baby you will have to take it slow with introducing new foods of course. I bet he’ll love them, though.
Banana seems to be loved by most bunnies, too.
I used to have my bunnies in my bedroom and ended up having to put them somewhere else, they wouldn’t let me sleep either.
I too had to move my first bun out of my bedroom, he woke me by thumping. I was a brand new bunny owner, so I got out of bed and gave him a piece of carrot each time. You bet that taught him to keep thumping in the middle of the night! ![]()
I had Kraken in my room last semester and he was really good. He would only wake me up if he jumped on his cardboard box. I had our old mini lop foster bunny in my room for one night this year and it was horrible! He was destroying everything in his pen pretty much all night. He got moved to the living room pretty quickly after that!
Moony sounds like a perfectly normal, young bunny to me.
Like the others said, he is settling in and feeling more comfortable now. Time for his bunnitude to show! You said he was 4 months, right? He can likely be neutered then, but wait a little bit so he can get used to his new home first.
Haha thanks for the reassurance, you guys! Yes, he is 4 months and ready to be neutered. I think things will be easier once I can find a treat he actually likes…
I called a few vets in the area for neutering, and man… Expensive. The one closest to me with the best yelp reviews costs $440! Another one costs around $300. I found one that is $180 total (including pain meds and such), so I think I will schedule for that one… The city is expensive, I guess.
Vets are wicked expensive now a days.
Prices vary widely across the country. Some places, people only pay $80-$150. Other places, $400 or more is the norm. If the vet is a lot cheaper than the other ones, do make sure to check them out first. Make sure they are familiar with rabbits and have done spays/neuters on rabbits before.
OMG, such a long day. And poor Cash is having troubles again. She keeps walking in these wide circles and my husband thought something was really wrong. But this evening, she started having trouble keeping her hind end up. Turns out, her hip is bothering her so when she walks, she’s putting all her weight on the one side. This causes her to, uh, not walking in a straight line. Poor thing. I gave her some pain meds, but I’ll have to call the vet for something that is safe for long-term use. As of right now, she’s walking much better. I feel so bad for her. It’s just not easy being such an old lady.
In other news, my thesis is supposedly moving forward. I’m meeting with my adviser to discuss how things should be written up. My results were not what I was hoping for, but they are what they are.
Ugh, this is unexpected- I was sitting in front of Moony’s cage door and he looked like he wanted to come out/sticking his nose through the gaps. I offered him my hand to sniff for no real reason, and he bit me! It actually broke skin and is bleeding! What a difference in a bunny between today and 2 days ago. Why is he like this? Refuses to be picked up or even pet ever since last night.
Now I know I must be doing something wrong here… What the heck is going on. Is he sick? Does Moony just hate me for some reason?
ETA: I realized I’m scared to handle him right now… What am I supposed to expect? I only just brought him home and not very familiar with bunny body language. I might just bring him to the vet tomorrow to see about the neutering, if it’s possibly hormones… do you think? Or did I make one too many mistakes somewhere along the line?
His behavior sounds pretty normal to me. Distressing for you, of course. But it isn’t unusual for a hormonal bunny to have cage aggressive tendencies.
Do you think it is just cage aggression? Will neutering fix this?
I can tell you that Chewie went from sweet, timid snugglebug, to “I love to sink my teeth into everything while spraying mommy with fragrant warm pee” literally overnight. I cuddled with him, went to work for the day, got home that evening, and the fun and games began. They lasted until a couple of weeks after his neutering – and it was the only time while living with me that he was penned up.
So yes. Neutering helps. A LOT. lol
P.S. He’s back to being my little prince again – all sweetness and light, even when he’s being naughty while playing. ![]()
LOL oh man, I’m happy to hear it’s a thing that happens. I think I will schedule an appointment asap and I sure hope it helps Moony. What a fast change overnight, literally! :s
Fiona, I just wrote pretty much the same thing to you in your other thread, before seeing the issue had been sorted in this one =)
LBJ, I’m sorry Cash is having trouble again, but I’m glad it was her hip and not sth really wrong. (I’m not glad she has pain in her hip of course, but joint-pain in the elderly is not out of the ordinary, I mean). Glad to hear about your thesis!
My Henry has always ‘slept’ in our room and I recently moved his house (feeding trough) in there too. I hate it! Being woken up at 4am to him ripping cardboard, throwing a party on my bed – especially when he didn’t invite me! But what do you do? NOTHING! Or at least I didn’t. Almost 3 years later and Henry still lives in our room. Just when I get $*&!ty and over it – the fluff and the mess, someone I love dearly loses their heartbunny. I am so distraught! This chickybabe that I love to moon and back loved her bunny SO much, it broke my heart that her heart is broken. I’m crushed!
PLEASE love your bunnies and give them a quality life – you never know when they will leave you. Take comfort that when they do, they had a good life here on earth. Don’t do the ‘if only’…. do it NOW!
I take comfort that my pet’s had a good life (after I got over the grief of losing them) and can now enjoy the memories. Do it for your pet – do it for yourself! No one wants to live with the ‘if only’….
Sorry to be so sad – but I am SO sad… still!
PS – Henry may sleep in my room, but he is free roam throughout my living area. Basically wherever I go, Henry can come too – he is lying behind me on the dog bed. He may not love me the way I do him – but he likes me enough to wanna hang out with me. Bunnies LOVE company!
Amen, AndHenry! Do butt-crack-of-dawn trampoline sessions ON. MOMMY’S. TUMMY. bug me, considering that I work 12-hour days? Heck yes, but he won’t hear it from me. Will I ever give Chewie anything less than the most freedom, love, and true companionship as I safely (for him) can? Nope. I chose to link his life to mine, not the other way around. As such, he is entitled to at least one willing human slave and centre-of-universe status. ![]()
Don’t forget too that bunny’s have an excellent field of vision EXCEPT right in front of their noses (unlike cats or dogs where you offer your hand directly in front for them to sniff)
So make sure you introduce your hand slowly to the SIDE of the bun’s head so he can see you coming – and so not bite out of surprise.
(If he bites for another reason, then atleast the surprise factor reason has been eliminated).
You are so lovely Q8bunny – thank you! Your funny/kind post/reply meant so much to me.
Thank you!
I too have a bun in my bedroom and I don’t know how many mornings I’ve pleaded with him for just 10 more minutes of sleep. Or awoke in the middle of the night because he’s decided to bang on his litterbox with the torn-off lid (last night f ex). I can’t get angry with him, because he’s such a darling. I wake up with a smile every morning because of him.
Andi, I too was so so sorry about the loss of that sweet, sweet bunny.
Oh bam… I’m still crying and it’s been 3 days??? I just wiped tears from my eyes again, I can’t stand it!
Please – everyone… love your bunny/s!
My poor darling… He was doing his evening zoomies on my bed, when he binky turned to face me with his little bunny grin, and he landed half on and half off the bed. Plopped right down on his little butt on the sheepskin rug with the most confused look on his face. I just wanted to scoop him up and hug him, but he read my mind and ran for the potty in my dressing room. ![]()
LMAO !!! I am completely convinced that they have no control once their back side has lifted off the ground….. it takes on a life of it’s own in mid-air! LOL
bam, your post in my thread was very helpful! The more info, the better… I am still half-witted when it comes to bunnies and behavior/body language. My last bunny was too perfect and taught me nothing. :s
Definitely did not know that they could not see right in front of their noses…. I assumed that offering a hand to sniff before petting was calming before petting, like for a dog or cat. Note taken LOL.
Sick for a week and a half straight…Uhg! Coughs always take a long time to clear up though. =/
So I’m trying to go vegetarian guys…Any tips from those of you who are veggie peeps?
Is it better to go “cold turkey” or slowly wean yourself off meat? Any tricks of the trade? Yummy recipes?
We have our own chickens, and soon I’ll be looking around at our local farms to buy milk from them so I won’t have to support the big companies that torture their animals.
We have A LOT of Robins (birds) flying around this year. I love watching them! ![]()
Urg, turns out that I am careless and Moony is only 3 months old! :s He was born on 1-9-16, which makes him right at 3 months in a couple days. Too early to neuter? Both his testes are dropped though… Are there clear cut facts about are health issues later from neutering a bit early, or just speculation?
MoxieMeadows, I recently made the switch to veganism and I found the best thing for me was to go cold turkey and throw out everything in my fridge that I did not want to eat beforehand so I wasn’t tempted. Pinterest has some great recipes and is usually my go to. Best of luck to you!

I know that there is medical research for dogs that shows early neutering before the growth plates have closed is bad, but I’ve never heard of any research relating to rabbits. Rabbits mature earlier than dogs do though. My vet basically told me that whenever Bandit’s testes dropped he could be done. He was however almost 5 months at the time. I’ve never heard of negative side effects relating to earlier spay/neuter for rabbits.
As far as I know, since bunny boys have retractable testes, once they drop, they’re good to go in terms of snipping. At least, that’s what my super-rabbit-savvy vet (now retired *bawls*) told me.
She snipped Chewie pretty much as soon as his dropped and he’s very healthy and full of beans (touch wood, aka head).
If the jewels are there, you can steal them.
Thank you Bam. Cash is still very anxious. She cries… loudly… all… the… time. I’ve been giving her baby aspirin and she has been getting around better. I’ll pick up something safer this week (can’t use aspirin for more than 5 days). I just wish there was something we could do about the crying. There are times when she is inconsolable. It makes me so sad because I don’t know why she does it. I think maybe she is anxious and sometimes confused about where she is. *sigh*
Oh gosh Moxie, that would be hard. I mean, I could probably be a vegetarian if I was by myself. My husband makes it difficult though. He wants meat and potatoes.
My dandelion finally set seed today. So happy I managed to collect the whole lot so that I can attempt to grow dandelions for when I next have a bunny ![]()
Yay, Azerane! I’ve been scouring the parks around here for a dandelion to pinch, but no luck yet. *fingers crossed for closer to summer*
Azerane, well done! I collected plantain-seeds last fall, I must plant them now. Plantain is supposed to be very healthy for humans as well as buns, but I don’t remember exactly why just now. (Just got out of bed, still on 1rst cup of coffea.)
LBJ, I’m sorry to hear she’s crying. Could she have dog dementia? (canine cognitive dysfunction)? Borreliosis? (My bridge dog Nala got borreliosis, sadly it’s very common here, don’t know what the situation is where you live, of course. Symptoms can mimick dementia.)
It seems such a silly thing to be excited about, haha. Bam, you mentioning plantain reminds me that I saw some on the side of the driveway when I got home from work today
I’ve never attempted to collect that seed before so really don’t know exactly what I’m looking for in terms of when it’s ready.

Thanks, that is good… I dropped him off for the neuter this morning.
Goodbye, Moony’s balls.
I went with the $180 one- she does neuters for all the local shelter’s rabbits, so it should be good. When I visited her with Moony yesterday though, she had no clue how to pick up a rabbit… She actually lifted him off just by his chest and did not support his bottom at all, so he kicked. I told her to support his bottom, and she just put him down on the table.
And then she goes and tells me that she owns holland lops for 10 years… I wonder if she picks all her bunnies up this way.
That’s when you say that you don’t care how long she’s owned rabbits for, when she picks up your rabbit she needs to support his hind end.
Friday at last…. it’s been a long week.
Safe neuter-vibes for (((((Moony)))))
It’s generally good when a vet does neuters for shelters of course, because it does give them tons of experience.
I am sooo embarrassed and mortified right now…Like I literally want to crawl in a hole and live there the rest of my life.
So my ’employer’ (the person I work for) owed me some money. So she sent her son (my crush!) to bring me the money (without telling me) today. I was wearing Short-shorts, so I wanted to run and throw some pants on over. So I tell my dad to just go and collect the money. Could he do that? Of course not. He decided to declare “She needs to go put some pants on”, before closing the door in his face(not on purpose, the dogs were trying to run out). Well I end up just throwing some flip flops on and running out (In the rain) to awkwardly collect the money. Not to mention we were taking rounds to the dump so we had several trash bags on our porch… UHHHHGGGGGGG
I know it doesn’t sound THAT bad, but trust me, it was. ![]()

LBJ— It’s been hard for me to go vegetarian because I’ve always been a meat and potatoes kind of girl ha ha
And since I don’t do the grocery shopping it makes it a tad more challenging. Today is day 2 though. =P
Moxie, it sounds more adorable than anything else
But I do still sympathize! It’s just great that your father sort of gave the boy the impression that you don’t wear trousers except for when somebody comes calling. Your father honestly sounds like the most darling father!
ROTFL
Moxie, your dad sounds so much like my dad!
Seriously, though – I realize it felt horrendous, but in retrospect, I agree with Bam that it was kind of cute, in a Bridget Jones kind of way. You’ll probably end up marrying the guy after you get arrested for drug trafficking in Thailand. ![]()
Bam – Oh I don’t doubt that her mind is starting to go. The aspirin has been helping, so I’m going to pick up something safer to use from the vet tomorrow. I really think she is hurting and that is what causes her to become anxious and whine. Poor thing. I’m sure she has arthritis pretty bad.
Moxie – That really doesn’t sound that bad, but I’m sure it felt embarrassing for you when you were in the moment. And yes, I can definitely see how that would be difficult if you didn’t do the shopping. Hopefully your family will be supportive and pick up some things for you. I guess part of my issue is that I hate to cook (terrible at it). So we typically eat a meat item, rice or potatoes, and steamed veggies or similar.
I’m going to cry. I came home today to find the entertainment center that was going to stay in the basement FOREVER at the bottom of the stairs, plywood covering the stairs and a winch bolted to the wall at the top of the stairs. Wow…. and Moxie thought she was embarrassed. o_O

Q8, that is hilarious! Moxie, I think it is very cute, in a very Brit kinda way, also

LBJ10, so the cabinet fell to the bottom of the stairs?! Oh dear. I hope it won’t be too expensive to replace or fix
My apologies if there are still a bajillion quotation boxes here. It’s never happened before!
Moxie Meadows, I also noticed you mentioned going vegetarian. I asked my vegan friend about it when I had considered it at one time. She loves it, but she said that one needs to take supplements because they could end up with deficiencies, so make sure you get regular blood tests, etc, done, just to make sure you are okay. I am young-ish, and have a family history of high cholesterol, so my previous doc recommended it for me, but irresponsibly left out the fact that I would need to have a proper plan for making this lifestyle permanent. I toyed with vegetarianism, and I felt great, but I got lazy. So, I’m deficient in vitamin B and D (but not from eating green), and it started to affect my memory and mood. Basically, do a lot of research and make sure you are getting all the nutrition you need along the way. You will feel better for it, but you don’t wanna experience what I did.
Guys, I’m wondering what this means? He has been doing this almost every time I want to pet him when he’s sitting up now. I took a video… http://sadbarks.tumblr.com/post/142490241206
Does he want to bite me? o__o I’m afraid to let him sniff my hand because of what happened last time haha.
Love4Bunny – No, it was coming UP. We put the stupid thing down there years ago. It was so hard getting it down there that we agree it was going to stay down there. Even if we moved away, it was never coming back up those stairs. Well, my husband wanted to get rid of it. So he rigged it up so we could get it up the stairs. He put moving dollies underneath the entertainment center, but the wheels made it too tall. So we used a big piece of cardboard to slide it up the stairs. It was way too heavy to lift ourselves, hence the winch. Needless to say, he is a horrible husband with very crazy ideas. LOL
Fiona – He looks like he wants to sniff your hand. Mine will do that if they think I have something for them.
Fiona, my Chewie will do that if he thinks I’m holding a treat OR if he wants me to rub his cheeks not just his head (and then he’ll lick my hand too).
I see- I figured it might be to sniff or mistaking my hand for a treat? Hopefully he isn’t thinking my skin is a treat, like before LOL

It looks to me like he’s just curious, and wants to sniff your hand like already mentioned, or wants to lick you hand ![]()
Wow, LBJ10! It sounds like a pain the backside. That also sounds like something my husband would do: dangerous improv. I used to watch “Some Mother’s Do ‘Ave ‘Em” on the BBC channel as a kid, and there was this character, Frank Spencer, who always had hair brain ideas (and was often pulling his wife into it). That sounds a bit like your situation! If you like British humour and have 30 mins or so, here’s an episode that might make you laugh, or in the very least, be relatable:
Fiona, I would share my opinion, but the video sorta froze…
Unpacked some of my Lion King collectibles today.
It’s so nice to have some things finally displayed. Not much else going on over here, just collecting an amazon cart that’s too expensive of bunny related things that I want, haha.
4 days vegetarian. Woop woop. I have luckily been able to not give in to any temptations. ![]()
L4B – You don’t know the half of it! LOL
Whelp, we got the entertainment center to the thrift store in one piece. It was strapped to a trailer that was too small for it and I had to follow behind my husband the whole way there to make sure nothing happened. We drive up, some guys came out (4 of them) and they took the entertainment center off the trailer. And then……. they dropped it! Oh boy.
Moxie that’s great! Good for you!
Sounds a bit stressful LBJ! ![]()

Were you donating it or getting some money for it? If they were giving you something for it I hope that they still paid you given they were the ones who dropped it. What a pain though.
Dang, my friend came over to visit Moony, and he bit my friend! O__O We were just sitting on the couch, petting him. It didn’t draw blood this time, but I hope to the heavens that this is a hormone thing and gets better a couple weeks after the neuter.
This random biting thing is all news to me, LOL.
Fiona: perhaps you should watch Wallace & Gromit – Curse of the Warerabbit
Great animated film!
LOL I’ve seen that when I was little! I love Wallace and Gromit, ahah. It must have been fate predicting the future that I named him Moony…. If anyone gets the Harry Potter reference. ![]()
Azerane – We were donating it. The store is actually a recycled building materials store but they accept furniture donations. The guys dropped it and broken the piece off the bottom on the back side. It was particle board there (unfinished), so I’m assuming it was just bracing to make it more sturdy. Still, it’s a shame they dropped it after we went through all that trouble to get it out of the basement in one piece, loaded on a trailer it was too big for, and driven across town. I suppose someone could still use it, but it’s damaged.
*sigh* The Rimadyl (meloxicam) isn’t working as well as the aspirin. Poor Cash is back to whining. She woke me up 3 times last night, just sitting in her bed whining. With the aspirin, she was sleeping through the night better. You’re not supposed to give dogs aspirin for very long though, so that’s why I picked up the Rimadyl. Oh well.

You don’t really need supplements going vegetarian, if you research and do it properly. You may need a B12 supplement going vegan, if you don’t eat B12 fortified foods. But, yeah, it’s best to transition slowly and research what nutrients you’ll be giving up in meat (amino acids, whole proteins, B12, etc) and where you can get them in a vegetarian diet (quinoa, fortified products, yogurt, etc).
Oh yeah… Moonies bite, alright. ![]()
I am feeling kinda discouraged right now. Now that people are finding out I am going Vegetarian, people are being kinda judgmental. I was trying to do some meal planning for the week with my mother, and my siblings started laughing at me, and saying stuff like “It’s just a phase, give it a few days and she’ll be back to eating meat”
And my “friends” think I’m being weird. *Sigh*
It’s hard to accomplish something without a lot of support!
Yes, it is Moxie. It really is.
Maybe you could just cut down on meat or have a meat-free day/few days a week?
Bam— Well now I feel like I need to succeed just to prove them wrong.
I’m still going to try though. I think I might be a pesco-vegetarian (somebody who doesn’t eat land animals, but still eats fish and shell fish) to start with, and then go completely vegetarian… When I was little (about 8 years old) I stopped eating all meat that came from pigs (because pigs are my favorite animal) for a while, but I ended up giving in because of “peer pressure”. But I have faith in myself.
We RARELY eat any seafood (it’s $$$ and my sister hates it and is mildly allergic) so it would only be a very special occasion type of thing..
It’s been 5 days though. ![]()
I’m not against eating meat, but I’m against how we get it and how they are treated, tortured ect. That’s why I’m choosing to go vegetarian. ![]()

I’m veering towards being vegetarian right now, eating less and less meat. I know if I do, I won’t get any support from my teen sons, so I have some sympathy.
Maybe you can comment something along the lines of ‘Yep, a phase, a few days, a few months, or a few decades, who knows?’ ?
And know you’ll get some support here too ![]()
Good luck Gina.Jenny! You could discuss it with them, tell them your reasons ect., and who knows? Maybe they would agree with you. But if they don’t agree, maybe keep a few meat options around for them. ![]()
Moxie, you’ll get support from us here if you want it
I try to eat very little meat, I never eat meat on days when I cook for just myself. I do consume quite a lot of dairy products though and find it hard to find good alternatives.
I too like pigs a lot!
I absolutely LOOOVE dairy products (cottage cheese is like my fave food) so I doubt I’ll ever be able to go vegan.
We have our own chickens, so I don’t need to worry about how the chickens I get my eggs from are being treated. =]
And BB is filled with some people who are plain awesome, we’re so full of support and compassion for each other-it’s great! ![]()

I can’t see either of the boys going vegetarian, and given my eldest’s medical conditions, it would not be wise for him anyway. They will both be leaving home for university at the end of September, and I can see our fridge going meat-free til they come home at Christmas.
My buns and piggies say they will gladly support you, me or any other non-furry going vegetarian, BUT only on the condition of promises not to eat any extra veg, as its bad enough having to share with the other buns n piggies as it is ![]()
There are other reasons for going vegetarian. You could talk about how animal farming is bad for the environment or how eating meat during every meal is a huge waste of resources. So much energy goes into producing meat and that energy could be used to grow plants for people to eat instead.
I was vegan for a couple of years in uni, and vegetarian for several more before and after that. Even now, I don’t eat meat or even eggs frequently – I just don’t gravitate toward it – but I do love dairy.
So I’m with you, Moxie and company.
I’m unfortunately one of those people who as much as I understand the poor conditions that many animals are kept in and how much it affects them, I don’t see myself being able to stop eating meat. However I do only ever by free range eggs. I mentioned that to a friend once who knows I’m trying to save money and not spend much and they asked why I didn’t just buy the cage eggs…. I didn’t even try to explain why. But that is one thing I absolutely refuse to do is buy cage eggs. I only ever buy free range, I always check out the brands I buy, and I try to always buy the ones with the certified lower stocking densities too (they’re not always in stock).
Azerane, I do the same thing with eggs. I, too, prefer to buy certified organic free range.
Lately I’ve also been doing a lot better with reading labels, to try and buy stuff that hasn’t been tested on animals. Which generally means I pay more, which stinks because I hate splurging on make-ups and lotion. ![]()

I’m the same- checking the brands and buying free range is important, but I don’t think I can ever stop eating meat. Even my dogs like vegetables more than I do (their favorites are cabbage, lettuce, and carrots). ![]()
Random happening… Moony seems to be trusting me more now after some bribing with craisins and carrots (orrrr his hormones went down a bit again). I pet him often again and he lets me. This morning he turned around to sniff my hand as I was petting him, and I let him sniff… just to take a chance… Thank goodness he actually just licked me a couple times and turned back around. No more teeth sinking into skin. I got lucky. LOL

So exciting Moxie!
Wow, sure is quiet around here tonight……….
Congrats on your 2 year Anniverysary, Moxie!
Okay guys a little question: I want to know if I’m being paranoid, or I am right be weary/cautious. I am going to be babysitting 2 young kids tomorrow at somebody elses house. They are likely going to be having a man (in his 60’s) working on their kitchen. I’m kinda uncomfortable being alone in this house with 2 young kids with a man I do not know, even if they completely trust him. I plan on voicing my concerns to the woman I babysit for when she comes to pick me up. I will have my cellphone and a large pocket knife, and my parents live only a couple minutes away. What else should I do/say without sounding rude?
Does this man work for a company or is he just some guy who does this type of work on the side? I’m sure he’s probably harmless. I mean, the parents are trusting him to be in the house with the kids when they are not there. But, as a young woman, I can understand you feeling uncomfortable. I probably would too. I don’t like going to people’s house for my job alone. There are weirdos out there and I suppose you never know. I would voice your concerns and maybe ask some questions about this guy before going over there.
Borrow Moonie the biter or Olly the security guard. ![]()
Moxie, I don’t think you’re paranoid. It’s healthy to be wary in these types of situations. LBJ10 also makes a good point. If it’s legal in your neck of the woods, keep pepper spray with you. If you decide to babysit tomorrow, then I would express to the parents of the kids you’re babysitting that, in future, it’s not a situation you feel comfortable babysitting for again. Unless someone you both know is willing to be there with you for free (which I know sounds weird, because then they could hire that person for free, but maybe just for tomorrow if you really feel uncomfortable).
LBJ— I honestly do not know. I know he’s probably harmless, but in todays world you never know. Just a couple days ago (friday) in our town a couple men broke into somebody’s house, assaulted the person, tied him up and stole his money. I think that is slightly contributing to my on-edginess. (the people still haven’t been caught).
Moxie – I totally understand. Believe me, I get nervous all the time. I honestly do not like going to people’s homes by myself, but I have to for my job. You just never know. My advice would be to talk to the parents about it. If you still are not at ease, then take someone with you or tell the parents you don’t feel comfortable babysitting if a stranger is doing work in the home while you’re there.
Moxie: We did, thanks for asking! I had updated his thread with pictures, but he has gotten a lot bigger since then! I’ll post some in the picture thread. ![]()
About that guy, try not to worry too much, he’s probably harmless, but it doesn’t hurt to stay aware. You could check which rooms lock from the inside, just in case. And make sure to keep your phone on you, don’t put it down somewhere. I agree that pepper spray would be a good choice, you want something that will work from a distance, you don’t want to have to get into hand to hand combat with someone who’s bigger and stronger than you. But keep the knife, anyway.
Try to have a nice time, chances are nothing will happen. ![]()
I’ll definitely be looking at those pics Hazel!
I think you’re all right, he probably is harmless, but in today’s world you never really know who’s the good guy and who’s not. What worries me the most is the fact that I’ll be alone in the house with a (sleeping) baby, for an hour and 45 minutes while I wait for (the still young) other child to get dropped off by the school bus. I think I’ll talk on my phone for a lot of this time so the person knows I do have a phone to call for help. Once the other kid comes home, I think I’ll be less on edge, because I think another capable person to call for help or run to the neighbors would deter anything if he did turn out to be a creep.
I believe pepper spray is legal here, but I’m still trying to talk my mom into letting me buy some. I believe she thinks I’d get freaked out and pepper spray a bunch of innocent people lol
But in all seriousness, I will voice my concerns today and be very careful, mentally figuring out an escape route/tactic to defend me and the children during that spare time. I know this might sound a little crazy/paranoid though, haha. I’ve also been taught a few simple stuff like never pull out a weapon in defense unless you really have to, because they could turn it on you, ect.
You are such a clever person, Moxie! I mean really. It’s so wise to figure out an exit plan and have your phone ready and all.
Well I’m back, and we all survived.
The woman I babysit for ended up having her (adult) son home to use their computer, so I felt a lot safer, because I at least know him. So all’s well. ![]()
Moxie, I’m relieved ![]()
We need some vibes for Cleo (cat)! We got bloodwork done today, and the vets think she may have Cancer, due to some levels not being normal. It’s not definite, but we’re hoping for the best. (hyperthyroid has been ruled out apparently). She’s now on a steroid for intestine inflammation, hopefully that will clear this up(and mean she doesn’t have cancer), or signs will point even further to cancer.
Nobody around here can diagnose her for sure, and we were quoted (by the closest one) to be between $4000 and $6000 (What the Heck?!) dollars, just to tell us whether or not she actually does have Cancer. We are changing her food again because she doesn’t like Royal Canin and has actually lost 6 ounces on it in the last 6 weeks. I’ll keep you all updated. I mean she’s still young, she only just turned 7 years old. <3
Oh no Moxie! Of course Cleo can have some vibes! Poor thing. I know cancer is usually bad in cats, so I do hope you get the results you’re hoping for.
I’m glad all went will with the babysitting job as well.
Okay… out of the blue question. So light denim and chambray are supposed to be super hot this spring. Supposed to be! LOL Anyway, I picked up the cutest button-down shirt the other day, but now I don’t know what to wear it with. Do I pair it with dark denim jeans? Or black pants? I really don’t know! Oh dear. =\
Good to hear you survived, Moxie! That was a good idea, having their son over. I’m so sorry to hear about Cleo. That’s a really tough position to be in.
LBJ10, I think dark blue/ indigo denim or white pants would go well with a chambray shirt. Soft dusky pinks are also a good colour for this spring, whether it be with white pants/ neutrals, or paired with chambray as a scarf/ skirt.
L4B – Oh, I didn’t think about white pants. Hmm, I would have to find some white pants……
I think TJ Maxx have a great selection of pants. That is, if you live in the States.
Vibes for ((((Cleo)))) xxx
((((((Cleo)))))) Yes, 7 is young for a cat. Stupid cancer, I sincerely hope their suspicion is wrong.
The only other possibility would be IBD (Irritable Bowel Disease), which would be causing her intestines to get inflamed and cause the bloody feces. So hopefully this new meds will clear it up (and we’ll most likely have our answer). On better news, Cleo LOVES the “treats” (medication) the vets have supplied us with. ![]()
Moxie: I’m glad everything worked out with the baby sitting! Sending lots of vibes for Cleo. Hopefully it’s “just” IBD. Lily has it too, but with the right food it’s not an issue (she eats 4Health, grain free canned food).
The new Ratchet and Clank just came out, and we don’t have a PS4…
I haven’t been to TJ Maxx for a very long time. I always got so frustrated there because everything was always mixed up and cluttered. I could never find anything in my size. =\
Hazel – I got the husband a PS4 for Christmas. The only reason I got it was because I managed to get it for $260 on Amazon. He only has the Star Wars games it came with in the bundle and Fallout 4. He’s been so busy playing Fallout 4, I haven’t needed to get him anything else yet! LOL
*sigh* Things sure are frustrating at work. I’m helping organize an event and companies/organizations that had always participated in the past as saying they can’t do it this year. What the heck?
I believe Cleo is going to be eventually switched to a natural diet. (Like liver and stuff, but it’ll be cooked, because since her immune system is most likely low, salmonella is a dangerous possibility.)
Y’all know how I told you all about how mortified I was when my Dad called out the door and told that boy I needed to get pants on? Well I was working (I’m her regular babysitter, the same person I was babysitting for yesterday) for her again tonight and she couldn’t find her money so Ii told her we could just catch up. I casually mentioned what had happened and how I was slightly embarrassed, and she said “Yeah, ——- said something weird like you weren’t wearing any pants when he went to drop that off”.
*Sigh* lol
![]()
LBJ: That’s a good deal. The best I can find right now is around $350. And I really don’t like any of the bundles, either. Maybe I will find a good deal like you did, sometime. Christmas is only eight months away… The game should be pretty cheap by then. ![]()
I’m sorry things aren’t going smoothly for you at work. I know it’s gotta be frustrating trying to organize something when others don’t hold up their end. I hope they’ll still come around! ![]()
Moxie:
That’s funny! Don’t worry about it, she obviously didn’t care, she still lets you babysit. ![]()
I know it was embarrassing for you, but it sure is a funny story!
I’m amused how comfortable Moony is already, anywhere in the house. I put him on a new couch to pet that he hasn’t been on before- he sniffed around for a minute, then just flopped right away and totally chilled out. This guy sure is comfy.
Still weirds me out that he binkies across the room when I can’t catch him though. I guess he thinks the fact that I am being so slow with him and he’s so fast is a ton of fun. Frustrating and adorable.
It’s spring in France and my bumpy holey small garden has just got really really on my English nerves… so 8 bags of 15kg of sand and 240L of compost later (and aching arms!) and I have a beach out in my little garden !!!!
All raked over, all raked in, overseeded and fertilized, flattened and watered, and in a month or two I should have (I b****ing better have !! LOL) a smoother, less holey garden. Atleast youtube tells me I should !!!! LOL
Augusta Masters golf course, eat your heart out !!!!
It’s the ONLY good thing about not having a dog any more… no yellow spots on the grass.
Vienna, I’m sure your garden will be lovely! As an Englishwoman you have the right genetic predisposition ![]()
I took a course in the Kon-Tiki method for production of biochar for gardens last weekend. Really interesting! I always have big plans for my veggie-garden, last year the slugs ate everything except the zucchinis, but I’m hoping for better luck (=less slugs) this year!

Here’s a pic of the biochar we made. I went to a plant nursery today and saw they sold planting earth that was a mix of biochar and earth. At a very steep price I must say.
Well bam – the “right predisposition” maybe not, but the expectations yes !
My family has always had nice English garden lawns… I am letting the side down somewhat! (Hence why I had to move out of the country !! LOL !!)
I went to a nursery yet and there was a (pet) bunny hopping around quite contentedly – I could get within in metre and then he hopped away calmly.
Apparently he has been hopping around eating the plants and rose bushes for a few months now !! LOL… I asked had they tried to catch it and they say he’s become one of the staff… ![]()
Vienna LOL So THAT’S why you went into exile! But the French are not so casual when it comes to gardening, surely. I mean Versailles and all. Not a lot of bumps and holes there.
Moxie, that is such a funny story! The four kids you’ll get with this boy when you’re grown up and married to each other will love to hear it over and over…![]()

OMG bam! ha ha You’re too funny! ![]()
speaking of gardening, it looks like a mama cottontail is building a nest in the herb garden. Stay tuned over the next few days for further developments.
double post
I don’t have the time or patience for gardening. I tend to kill things too…..
Diamond – Oh boy, you’ll have to post pictures! =D
It’s FRIDAY!!! And I just got home from work ![]()
Ah… more questions again- I hope you guys don’t mind. I am suddenly quite worried, so I hope I can learn what is going on. I posted a new thread in the diet/care forum. :s
Needy newbies *grumbles*….. oh, hey didn’t see you there!
I’m kidding!!! We’re always here to help Fiona. And we absolutely adore Moony so it really is no trouble. ![]()
Bam – well public places are well looked after, but the “English garden” generally is that – although the garden centres are full here as soon as a ray of sunshine comes out !!! They are not quite so anal about straight borders, flat lawns and stripes going up and down them !! Its more a wild tamed look ! lol
I kill things too, but they look nice for a while !!! xx
Vienna, English gardens!!! *envious sigh*. I was only joking about Versailles. It’s not a style of gardening I’d choose if I were a king, I think (I’ve kind of a hard time imagining being a king though). Plus I don’t appreciate the smell of box hegdes, they smell like cat urine. But back in the 1700-hundreds everything else probably smelled even worse ![]()
It’s sort of like a bedroom – or what my Mum used to say about a bedroom – its not tidy unless the bed is made….!!
The lawn is the same for a garden….
I prefer unplanned flowerbeds and roses and honeysuckle that climbs everywhere but if the lawn is neat and tidy it doesn’t matter.
I was going to take my parents (over for a w-e visit last week) to Holland to see THE tulips but they werent’t out yet (hoorah for tripadvisor telling me) so we didn’t make the journey… shame, it’s supposed to be fan-tas-tique !
Hey this forum hits internationally – I need your ‘unbunny’ help !! (LOL)
I have 2 duvets (continental quilts) for my double bed. One winter, one summer.
Both were bought on sale years ago and neither are ‘standard’ sizes !!! Don’t ask why, I’ve no idea!! I now know why they were bargains !! LOL
I would like to finally buy covers which fit them, rather than wrestling each time like a halloween ghost on drugs, to make them fit!
Where do they come from and where can I buy covers from?
Maybe they are ‘standard’ sizes from another country and I could buy on the net…
Do you recognise these sizes ?
210 x 225 cm
185 x 185 cm
Yes, I could just buy new ‘standard size’ duvets, but I don’t do things the easy way ! (And they’re perfectly OK) ;p
A quick check on Tesco and Amazon suggests the 210 x 225 is pretty close to a UK king size, if thats any help?
There seem to be sooo many different sizes, even for the same ‘name’.
Do you mean 220 x 230 ? Yes, but 10cm is still a bit to hang off…. I’m trying to find perfick fit
Have I just gone bonkers or was there a thread with bunnies’ bums yesterday….?
Bunny bums! Bunny bums! Ooof… I love superbun bums. ![]()

Those are strange sizes. We do 210 x 210 or 210 x 240 but not inbetween. No 185 sizes either.
I knooooow !! (In a Kim and Kath accent!!)
Strange sizes! I’ve NO idea where they would have come from….. so i get floppy edges if I buy the cover too big and scrunched up duvet if too small..
.
At the moment I fold back over about 15inches of the actual duvet at the bottom of the bed in the cover (hence my wrestling inside it! – it always wins!)
185 comes up for a single size but only 80 across….. ggrrrr ![]()
My poor baby. She has been warm lately so we decided it was time to give her a haircut. I started last night, just doing her torso. She’s an old dog so she will only tolerate so much at one time. Anyway, I looked at her after I was done and you can totally see how skinny she is now. I mean, her bones aren’t protruding or anything. But she definitely is tiny around the waist. ![]()
LBJ, hug her from me (gently). Sending her so many feel-good vibes (((((Cash)))))
((((Vibes)))) from me too!
Today was day 12 being vegetarian. I haven’t had any slip-ups yet. ![]()
Thanks guys. She ate pretty well today. But, as you know, it can be difficult to keep weight on an old doggy. I’m probably going to make another appointment with the vet for her. The Rimadyl doesn’t seem to do much for her pain-wise. If I stop the Rimadyl and give her an aspirin, I see an immediate improvement. Hopefully there is something stronger that she can have that would be safer than aspirin.
I’m so sorry to hear, LBJ10. I hope she puts on some weight soon, and that you find something to help with her pain management.
LBJ: Sending lots of vibes for your girl. I hope the vet can suggest something that will work better!
Look what I got! ![]()
“This is staying in my room, right?!”

Vienna: I used to have an Atari, too!
Good job, Moxie. Keep it up!
OK I’ve taken a week off in May, with no idea where to go – any ideas…???
Either a walking hol (Peaks? Lakes? Somerset?) or a beach hol (Canaries / Balearics…)
Hmmmmmmmmmm décisions décisions !!
I vote for a beach holiday – lots of nice places in France to walk on weekends (ok, so I’m assuming here, since I don’t actually know where precisely in France you are lol). But I’ve done little hikes in Languedoc Roussillon, etc. and Provence, and Normandie and they’ve been perfect for weekend type jaunts.
So yea. Get out the Hawaiian Tropic. teeheehee
If you are planning a Beach holiday in England Blackpool is nice, but expensive.
Might go there on the roller coaster and take a packed lunch on it, must remember my Tuna sandwiches hey BB.
Well, Pinky, when I mentioned your thoughts on a walking hol (fitness) or a beach hol (sunning!) – for the latter I didn’t really envisage Blackpool in May…. LOL
No disrepect, but I was thinking more like Tenerife, Southern Spain or the Bahamas !!
Yes I could go walking in Normandie but the UK countryside is pulling me….. and southern France is just as far to travel as the Peak District….
Think I’ll just turn up at Gatwick with passport, credit card and suncream, and get a no-show to the next (hot) destination…. ![]()
I’d have chosen a walking holiday, but then I really like walking in nature. Esp if there are animals. Doesn’t have to be exotic animals, just animals like toads and frogs and birds and rabbits and squirrels and such.
I KNOW – I do too !! LOL – And I like meeting like minded people who are also walking !! I need to borrow a dog though….
Today was day 15 being vegetarian. I’ve had no slip ups thus far, and the craving for meat is almost completely gone. ![]()
I do enjoy a good hike.
Well, the vet said it was okay to give her aspirin more or less regularly. She said that at her age, it probably didn’t matter. We’re going for quality, not quantity here. If the aspirin helps her, then give it to her. I just wish there was something a little safer. =\
*sigh* Is it Friday yet? This week had been awful.
LBJ, couldn’t you give ranitidine or omeprazole with the aspirin? People on NSAIDs often get a prescription for a PPI at the same time to make it less hard on the tummy, aspirin and diklofenak etc are terribly hard on the tummy.
Vienna, walking without a dog seems rather pointless when you’re used to having a dog with you ![]()
It does indeed – spesh when you’re walking alone… having a dog by your side (or infron, or behind or zooming about in figure 8s) just fills in all the gaps… ![]()
I’m really upset right now. It feels like all my friends (I only have 2 lol) are drifting away.
I’m homeschooled and my “bff” is public schooled. Apparently she’s decided these new Friendships (that are only like 4 months old) are worth more than our friendship which is nearly 10 years old. =/ She’s gotten distant and has even told me I’m not her “No. 1 friend” anymore. It hurts and is making me bitter towards her. But I don’t want to be because it will push us away further.
any insight?
Aw Moxie
it sucks, but sometimes friends do drift apart – you will meet more people though in your life!
My buns just got a shipment from binkybunny store today. And… they are destroying some willow toys. Powder managed to come out of the pen for a few minutes today, but he’s still not coming out much. ![]()
Moxie – It is natural for friends to drift apart. For teenage girls, experiencing high school and new friends can be very exciting. You might meet some really fun people and suddenly everyone thinks you’re cool or is interested in you. It happens. Don’t blame your friend. This is probably a very exciting time for her, especially if she didn’t have many friends before. You guys might drift apart and that is natural with any friendship. This even happens to the best of friends. But, if the friendship really is a true friendship where you both love and care for each other, you will eventually make your way back to each other. It might take some time. She might need to mature a little bit and realize there are more important things in life than being cool (like true, long-lasting friendships). You both might need to mature a little.
And when that happens, then you will find your way back to each other and your friendship will be stronger than ever. And if it doesn’t, then that’s okay too. It can happen sometimes. Friendships aren’t always as strong as we think they are and it is natural for them to come to an end. So try not to feel bitter. I know it can be hard sometimes, but you certainly don’t want to push her away.
Bam – So far she has been okay on it. The vet wants to keep an eye though.
So excited for a pet expo that we’re going to tomorrow
I’m hoping that I can do a little bit of filming and put something up on my youtube channel. Which reminds me I need to make sure my camera batteries are charged.
I’ve just seen a webpage which says if you’re thinking of getting a rabbit, you should allow for ‘running’ costs of £1000 per year – !!!! (= +/-$1400)
Well I know they’re not cheap as canaries, but £1000 seems a bit steep (I’m exclusing emergency visits or illnesses of course…)
(Atleast I’m sure I don’t spend that on Zou !) That’s £20 per week – on food and hay ! Hmmm.

I’m sure I never spent that much on Bandit. Maybe over the course of setting up all his stuff, cage, buying all supplies etc.
But with litter, pellets, hay, greens and toys, it comes out to about $650 Australian, which is about 350 pounds (not sure how I get that symbol
). And I feel like I’m not estimating low either, that’s including $15 a month on toys which I know I didn’t spend monthly. Then even if you add on $100 for a yearly checkup, it’s still nowhere near the AU$1800 they say. What are they buying for their rabbit
I suppose if I had been buying a lot more fresh greens specifically for Bandit it would have cost more, but he just had bits and pieces of what I was buying for us and the rest was home grown. Hay costs me about $1.00 a week tops.
Azerane – It’s the morning over there down under !
Hope your batteries are all charged up and you have a fab time at the expo today.
I’m just off to bed !! LOL
Thanks so much VBIF
We weren’t actually there that long, an hour and 45 minutes maybe. It was a nice expo, just disappointing that it wasn’t as big as I thought it would be. There’s the potential for so much more to be there. Still, we go to meet some great dogs and cats, got to pet Bengal kittens, and an Abyssinian kitten (two of my favourite breeds). I also got to see some rabbit breeds that I’ve not seen in person before, they had a Thrianta there, and wow is that one gorgeous rabbit. One of the ladies at the display also let us pet a standard rex (since they weren’t letting people pet the rabbits at all). But she kindly opened the top of the cage to allow us to pet him to feel how soft the fur was. So it was a pretty nice morning, just not as amazing as I expected it to be.
On the way home we stopped at a couple of pet stores just to look, I always like to check out potential toys and get ideas for things (and of course play with adoptable kittens etc). One of the pet stores had buy one get one free on all their Burgess stock, which I would have jumped at the opportunity did I currently have a rabbit. Because Burgess is super pricey here.

Well, depends where you live, really. When I was in KS, we couldn’t get fresh hay locally, so I had to order online – $60 per shipment of hay (50lbs at a time) but they go through hay so fast, it wouldn’t last all that long. Probably $5 a week in hay that way. A single head of lettuce was $2.49, which they could eat a head a day if I let them, but lets say I go through two heads a week, plus a few things of cilantro/parsley – $7 a week in veggies. Oxbow pellets, 25lbs lasts them around 3-4 months @ $26.99 a bag – $2.25 a week on pellets. Litter, they were going through around one bag every two weeks, $8 a bag. $4 a week on litter. Toys would never last them more than a week, so if I kept them something to chew, it was roughly $5 a week on toys.
So around $23-$24 a week for them up there.
Now, in Florida, they aren’t costing near as much. $5.99 bag of horse stall pellets for litter, has lasted so far two months and I still have plenty (a lot cheaper than having to buy cat litter). So, I’m guessing probably 4-5 months on one bag. So, maybe $0.35 a week on litter. A bale of hay is $7.99, vs $60 of having to order it online and it’s huge, so will last a while, so maybe $1 a week on hay. Veggies, I can grow some of my own and hit sales/seasonal on some other stuff, so it’s not too bad… but still, about $3-$5 a week on veggies. Toys I can’t afford to keep them in what they like, not on my salary (they like willow toys and they eat a $5 toy in an hour). But, maybe $3 a week.
So around $9-$10 a week on them here.
Plus, if you get a yearly checkup, it costs more. And as rabbits age, they can start to have teeth issues and stuff, which becomes costly with the trims.
Wow such a difference in different parts of the country !
Hooray that they’re cheaper now – you could get another one !! ( joke! )
It’s all about supply and demand and local products…
Yep. And I imagine the 1000 pound thing was probably priced somewhere around London, which would be more expensive as it’s such a high cost of living area.
And no, no more haha two is enough for me!
I think sometimes a lucky find can make all the difference. Towards the end of last year, I found a local independent pet shop that does free local deliveries if you spend over £10. £12 buys me a 10 kg bale of meadow hay and two kg of dried grass, which probably lasts four buns and two piggies around 6 weeks, working out at £2 per week.
I buy their veg at the local market where I am lucky that there are two animal loving ladies who often manage to pop a few big outer leaves, carrot tops or wilting veg in, sometimes doubling the amount I end up with, and none ever gets wasted! Allowing for two portions of good quality pellets a day, my average weekly food bill for hay, veg and pellets for 4 buns and 2 piggies is probably around £6.
Thankfully none of mine are fussy hay eaters, I don’t know if there being so many hay chomping mouths in the house helps prevent that, but a fussy hay eater, or a bun or bun parent with hay allergies could whop the cost up.
Adding in all the other costs my annual costs for our current four rabbits and two piggies comes in at just under £800. £1000 for one bun is eye watering, even if it includes some vet bills.
After a few weeks of umming and ahhing, I’ve decided to put a divide between Choco and Latte. Choco won’t leave poor Latte alone, and Latte is getting so distressed by the constant mounting. I’ve put a wire shelf from a cheap shoe rack in, splitting their indoor cage in two, so they can still touch noses and lie along side each other if they want, but can’t mount. Latte seems very relieved, and has vanished into his favourite tunnel for some welcome peace, I think, out of Choco’s sight. Choco is less impressed, and is biting away at the shelf.I don’t know if Choco would welcome a hump buddy?
Neither are neutered, like bunnies, there are no health benefits for neutering boys, but unlike bunnies, neutering doesn’t lead to big changes in sexual or aggressive behaviour. Given the risks are not really offset by any benefits, I chose not to put these two through the procedure, having lost one of our previous piggies from post-neuter complications.
Could he accept a toy piggy as a hump-buddy? I realize a toy piggie might be hard to find, but maybe a toy hedgehog would do?
I’ve popped an old teddy in for now, but he’s more interested in trying to get through the shelf to Latte so far.
Really missing Bandit the last couple of days. I’ve never been one for diving right into a new pet, but for some reason in the case of Bandit, from about a month after I lost him, I felt that adopting another rabbit would really help. Unfortunately I’m having to wait until I have some more savings before doing so, which is smart, but it’s breaking my heart being without a pet, and it’s a constant reminder of Bandit being gone. I suppose because I feel responsible for what happened, being able to care for another rabbit will help heal that. Depending on how things go with my saving goals, I’ll potentially be able to adopt in June, so I’m looking forward to that at least
Sorry to get all depressing, there’s very few places I can really talk about it without being thought of as a bit crazy for missing a pet so much. ![]()
I totally get how you feel Azerane.
Poor Cash is having a rough night. I’m not sure what’s wrong. She keeps crying and shaking. There are thunderstorms so I don’t know if the weather has something to do with it. She went to the park earlier today and walked her normal distance and seemed fine then. *sigh*
(((Cash)))
I know when it’s rainy/stormy out my joints hurt for some reason. I think it has something to do with the air pressure? I’m not sure though.
That makes complete sense, Azerane. But just think: April’s nearly over and June will soon be here and with it, hopefully, a new bun to dote on. A Bun in Winter. ![]()
Ok… I just ordered a bag of Sherwood Forest Professional.
Chewie loves his Oxbow BBT pebbles, but I’ve read so many good things about the ingredients used by SF, that I’m going to try feeding him that for a while and see how it goes (my only concern is that they’re higher in protein and calcium).
Kind of excited to receive them though. Anyone else have anything fun coming in the mail? ![]()
Yes! My kids chewed through all their BB double weave mats, so I just placed an order for several of the other seagrass kind, to see if they prefer those. I also ordered one of the rectangular baskets, but I really need one of those in a super-sized version as Thor goes crazy over that particular one, and with Crysta, nothing lasts. The willow wreaths are a fave but they were out of stock (!), as were the new asparagus logs (?) and sticks. My kids only eat the fresh kind of anything, which means that I can’t pick them up from the pet store, cos they’ll just sit there. I swear, I need to plant a willow tree in my backyard. We power through fresh willow like crazy, so I hope it’s not bad for them the way they consume it! Although it never lasts, so they don’t get it till the next shipment of supplies.
Edit: I was going to try Sherwood, but since Crysta has some increased sediment in her pee, the vet advised me (for now) to not feed her anything with alfalfa, and to reduce her collards intake, which was a bummer because both kiddies love collards. I mean, her pee was a whitish colour with some rust, but the vet ruled out sludge, and I’d started feeding her strawberries that week. She seems better since I made the diet adjustment, and since she had some poops backed up, I followed the vets advice and she returned back to normal after a couple of weeks.

Yep, I’ve ordered a long roll of wire netting, so I can extend the buns outdoor extension run, and provide the pigs with one each. So tomorrow or Wed I will have fun with that, depending when it arrives.
I’ve spent this morning rearranging the dining room again, so that Choco could move into a separate cage. I felt a bit sorry for Choco, as lifted him over, but his first response was along the lines of ‘wow, so much hay, thanks mum!’. He had a great time, and is now out in the garden alongside the bunnies. It hadn’t occurred to me that he would welcome a break from feeling frustrated, just as much as Latte would welcome the break from being mounted. Latte will go out later, and Choco will have to come in, as I only have the one run for them til the netting arrives.
The cage he is now in was the one I had been using to bond the quartet, and so smells strongly of bunnies, and should’t have too much piggy smells left in it. It does meant I can’t use it for bunny bonding though, but on Friday I will be provided with some research to do for my science degree, which I will be examined on in June, and will need to focus on revision and research from Friday onwards. That’s one reason I decided to split the piggies, I won”t be able to keep going and lifting Choco off Latte. Bunny quartet bonding will have to wait now til I can throw the study books on the shelf for a long summer break, which is why I’m extending the extension, as its not as big as the main run.
I’m trying to clear everything of my ‘to do’ list before Friday, which includes an assignment to submit tonight. Most of it is done, just a really nasty, difficult essay left to tackle, which now the boys have left for college, I need to get on with…
Calming vibes for (((Cash)))

It’s the end of a 3 day weekend here, and I’m really not feeling like going to work tomorrow. It doesn’t help that I’m mildly sick but there’s not a whole lot I can do about that.
Salamat. It’s a “get well” wish in Arabic that we use here when hoomans are poorly. ![]()
L4B: I can’t seem to find fresh “tasty” twigs. The store ones don’t impress his lordship very much, and I confess to trying to gnaw on a few different kinds to see if I can perceive a difference in tastiness, but have had no luck.
GJ: Your piggies will be sooo impressed with the snazzy new facilities, I’m sure.
I was actually toying with the idea of getting a couple of warbling piggies, since Chewie’s post-neuter hutch is sitting around all sad and empty. They’re such cute little critters.
Q8, yeah, I order my twigs online for that reason. And… get outta town about the Piggies! I was contemplating getting one also. I decided against it because I want to give all my pets quality time, but I was this close [ ] to getting one with a super awesome spike of hair on his rump. I even nickname him Patrick Swayze because of his amazing hairdo. Alas, the pet store sold Patrick. And… a little piece of me went with him [cue single tear].
L4B: lol *She’s Like the Wind starts playing*
I love ordering stuff online. It doesn’t matter what it is, it is 1000x more exciting when you have to wait for it etc. ![]()
Here is Choco, curled up fast asleep, now the space from Latte is giving his confused hormones a break. He sent so long making the perfect hay nest, most of it got pushed to the sides!

Hehe, yes! I was going to say, no one puts Patrick in a [pet store] corner. No one!
Mine seem to like things from the pet store okay, but they prefer the toys from BB for some reason. Maybe they have a “fresher” taste?
Oh boy, that was a rough night. Cash was up several times whining and crying. My husband stayed up with her all night. I had to put her in the kitchen when I left for work this morning. Poor thing. I really don’t know what was wrong, but she was full-on crying like a puppy does. You know, when you first bring them home. It was at the top of her lungs, literally. =\ She seems better now, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see when it’s time to go to bed. *sigh*
This is so hard. I mean, how do you know when enough is enough? I always hate that about people saying that you just know. Well, you don’t always just know. Especially when said pet is still walking around, eating (more or less), etc. We took her to the park today. But then my heart breaks when she won’t go to sleep at night. ![]()
LBJ10, do you think Cash is in much pain, and that’s why she cries at night? She obviously doesn’t want to be alone, and my chihuahua, Lovely, will quietly whine and pine for me when I am not there. I had to bite the bullet and buy a fancy pet gate because her anxiety got so bad when I left for work, she ripped through chicken wire and cardboard used to block holes on our cheaper baby gate.
I’m sorry it’s so tough for you guys right now.

I understand that completely. For a long time I had the biggest regret about our family cat, Sparks. She was about 18 years old, living with my mum and her partner (I’d moved out of home about a year earlier) and one day when I visited I could tell how suddenly she’d become “old” and I knew that she would probably die soon and I should do something about it (my mum’s not really the sort to take an animal to a vet for old age). I fought with myself for a while about it, whether I needed to take her within those next few days and in the end, I waited too long and she passed away on her own. I felt awful that the one last thing I could have done for her, I never did. It seemed like she died somewhat peacefully (curled up like she was sleeping), but she still could have been in pain. That being said, my mum had suggested I give up on her 3 years earlier when she came down with a bad digestive infection. For a week I hand fed her microwaved chicken bits, and as a result of being so sick she also came down with two other infections, respiratory and an infected paw (from a small cut) that made her whole leg swell. It was a tough battle, but I knew I had to fight for that one. Deep down, when she did pass, I knew that it was her time, I delayed because it was hard to accept and I was trying to convince myself that I had more time when I didn’t. I have no idea if me writing any of this helps, because I know that all situations are very different. Fight for what you know can be fought for, everything else is a tough choice either way. Letting go hurts, but I also know that not letting go can hurt too when you could have done something but didn’t. *hugs*
Azerane, I think you did the best you could do, and used your best judgement in the circumstance, but we do blame ourselves because hindsight gives us a different perspective.
Azerane’s story reminded me of my own experiences with 2 of my dogs in my teens. One day our Maltese Terrier, Darla, started limping. My family didn’t know this till it was far progressed, but she ended up with bone cancer, and it ate away her skin, bone and muscle on her hind leg, under her fur. She couldn’t walk, so the vet suggested we put her down at that point, which we did. We were pretty upset, and Mum was distraught because she was there when Darla was euthanised. But at that point, there was really nothing we could do to stop how aggressive the cancer was, and she was in pain.
We also had Pepe, a black toy poodle, who lived to a good old age, but had cataracts and went blind in the end (apparently quite common for the breed). He died a natural death, and dad found him on top of the rabbit grave we had made for my sister’s rabbit. Pepe had gone and laid in the sunshine, and we believe he knew it was his time to go.
You’re right, it’s one of those things that can be such a tough decision, even when you know what the right decision is.
LBJ10, you could always take her into the vet to discuss her quality of life, perhaps there’s something you can get that will help her be able to sleep at night?
Azerane – I guess my experience is the opposite. I felt guilty for euthanizing “too soon”. It was awful.
I don’t really know what’s wrong. She will sleep some nights, but not others. We thought it was because she was in pain. The vet had her on Rimadyl and it seemed to do nothing. She would cry and cry at night while on it. We had to resort to giving her aspirin, which the vet is okay with. She was sleeping better and getting around better. It wasn’t until last night that she was having issues again. There was a thunderstorm though. I guess part of it could be pain, but part of it could be dementia. She has these episodes where she seems confused.
Our chihuahua walks around and cries due to being confused and anxious, rather than pain. Due to her being blind, she has a lot more anxiety about things (noises, not having a familiar smell, etc). Some nights she sleeps, some nights she walks the floor crying. Most nights she sleeps. Sometimes she even forgets she eats, then wakes up wanting to eat, even if she just ate an hour ago and will cry because she’s hungry (even though she just ate). It’s hard on them when they get old. But, it’s not always pain causing them issues. Certain assurances can calm the chihuahua we have. The storm could have totally caused the episode.
Stickerbunny – Oh that’s good to hear. At least I’m not the only one who is experiencing this. Yes, I think a good portion of this is anxiety and confusion. She has been out like a light tonight. Hopefully she isn’t sleeping too much (and decides to wake up in the middle of the night).
OMG, there was the most awful sound outside earlier. It sounded like a raccoon to me. A raccoon that was screaming. We’re not sure what was going on, but perhaps they were having a fight. There wasn’t a dog barking or anything so I don’t think a dog had one cornered. The sound was just awful though. o_O

I understand, I’ve only ever had one of those experiences and it was because I was only 15 and it was completely out of my control (parents couldn’t afford the surgery). Though I must say that it was probably my hardest loss, possibly from being young and being the pet I grew up with but also knowing that there were options that we simply didn’t take. I suppose it’s easy to feel guilty either way, doing it too early, and leaving it too long. Never an easy decision, that’s for sure.
It’s tough to know what is causing the distress, but dementia is certainly an option. I think Sparks was starting to develop some in her last year or two. Suddenly at 2/3am in the morning she would start meowing really loudly from the lounge room, and she wouldn’t move from there or stop until you got up, said hello and pet her for a moment. Then she’d curl right back up and go to sleep again. It wasn’t frequent though, maybe only twice a month so not the same issue that you’re having by far. Really do wish you all the best though, it’s tough to know what to suggest.
Yipee!! The shelter is dropping off their one and only piggy on Thursday afternoon. Can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait *hops up and down with glee*
Dang, you move fast, Q8!
Boy, am I glad I kept all of Chewie’s post-neuter stuff – it’ll be purrrfect for Hagrid.

Great news
you need to practice ‘pop-corning’
that’s a piggy equivalent of a bunny binky! Will Hagrid be yr first piggy? Can’t wait for pics
It’s trying to snow here
Snow, glorious snow, my bunnies don’t think so! Snow, horrible snow, piggies tell you to go! It’s cold under piggy paws, keeping us all indoors, oh snow, unwanted snow, why don’t you go!

Congrats, can’t wait to see pics ![]()
GJ: Yep. First piggy. But I’ve met him loads of times because he lives in a hutch in the bunny room at the shelter where I volunteer (i.e., help out with the buns exclusively).
Azerane: You bet there will be pictures. As soon as he’s settled and has had a bath – he’s a bit ripe at the moment, poor wee soul.
Q8, that’s so exciting! I’ve never owned a piggy but they are super-cute. Pics pleeeeeeease!

GJ: Yep. First piggy.
We got our first piggy, I think maybe 2005. My younger son was asking for a twin sister, but agreed to settle for a guinea pig
Of course his brother wanted one, so we got two. Sadly, the second one was a pet shop return, and seemed to be permanently shell shocked, but at least they were some sort of piggy company for each other. We’ve never been piggy free since!
LBJ, I’,m so sorry to hear this about Cash. I do agree that it’s not all sure that you’ll just know. I didn’t just know with my bridge dog Nala. I was so afraid I let her go too soon, but now years after I know it was the right thing.
Lots of owners actually don’t know, and some dog-owners ask their friends to please tell them when enough is enough, because it’s so terribly hard to tell when it’s about your own pet.
Uhg I am sick AGAIN! =/

Hope you feel better soon x
Choco was very happy to have some lap time, He is missing Latte way more than Latte is missing him ![]()
He doesn’t sing all that often , but I’ll keep the camera handy and fully charged, just in case the singing mood takes him
@Q8, I know it’s early days, but will you be getting him a little piggy friend? Maybe when the shelter gets another in ![]()
@MoxieMeadows I know the feeling, I’m sick too It all started with a sore throat on Saturday and for three days it was just that so I thought it would be alright. Then yesterday I had head pain and hot/cold feelings, and now since 1am my sinuses have just exploded, lol. No work for me today I don’t think.
I know I posted last, but I just have to say, I reached a very exciting milestone this morning with 200 YouTube subscribers!
I know it’s not much in the grand scheme of things, but it’s more than I expected to have in this amount of time. ![]()
@Azerane @MoxieMeadows
Hope you both get well soon. I’ve had a scratchy throat since Friday, and I’m feeling yuck and exhausted.
Congratulations Azerane, on the YouTube milestone
Is it rabbit-related?
Congrats, Azerane!
Actually, Hagrid used to have a brother who was adopted solo (the shelter really should’ve insisted on a package deal).
They’re the only two piggies they’ve ever had so I might just cave and get him a friend from Petzone when I go in for hay in two weeks – they’ve got a herd of Shelties, I think. Must make sure it’s a boy and must introduce them amidst a shower of yummy food. lol
Toying with the idea of using a small wading pool I have as a piggy pen or somehow connecting two hutches together to make a bigger habitat…
Cash has been pretty quiet today. She wasn’t interested in her food so we gave her some chicken earlier. She’s sleeping now. I feel so bad. Thanks everyone for the support. This is so hard. I mean, she’s my baby and she has been with us for 17 years. That’s such a long time, it’s hard to remember what it was like before she was around. I feel so guilty because I often become frustrated with her. Especially if she wakes me up at 2 or 3 in the morning. It’s difficult to leave her alone for very long and my husband has been reluctant to do anything during the day so he stays home and works on stuff around the house. We had plans to go on vacation at the end of the summer. It’s our 10th anniversary this year and we wanted to do something special. Unfortunately, I don’t think my parents would be capable to taking care of her. She needs so much help and patience. =\
I hope you feel better soon Moxie. Maybe it’s just allergies?
What? A new guinea pig? And there are no pictures?!?!?!?!
In 24 hours, LBJ
Chewie just had his first taste of fresh grass today. I was in tears while filming – poor little boy… no back yard to graze in.

I think you love and provide for Chewie so well, he doesn’t know he’s missing anything, Q8.
Thanks, L4B.

He looks like he’s enjoying it
he’s a dainty little eater! Did you grow the grass indoors?
LBJ – oh, LBJ, what to do…
I had this in Nov with my 16yr old dog and it was the hardest thing, I stayed in, comforted her, got up twice each night with her, tried 10 different meals each time to help her eat and keep up her strength… everything an old dog needs.
I spent a heartbroken week asking myself if it was time, putting it off, wondering if I was being selfish because I didn’t want her to go…. All this and it didn’t change the end result. But I have no regrets (though a gaping hole in my heart and tears in my eyes everytime I think of her (and now!) – GOD I miss her) and I don’t believe I waited too long which must be the worse kind of regret, in my humble opinion.
The saying ‘you know when it’s right’, stinks, but has a truth to it – and that depends on only you.
I think it’s inside our complex human mind that makes us decided that its time. (With or without the help of a knowing look from the animal).
The definition of “It’s time” will be different for you, for me or for anyone else reading this. I once saw a dog with owner in front of his house, skeletal, not standing up and deaf and blind. The owners clearly did not believe in euthanasia ! I have a bucketful of arguments against that, but at the end of the day who is right?
You must be at peace with your decision.
Here is advice I got from a vet site on the net, which helped me.
I hope it helps you, and anyone else, with a very difficult decision.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
IS THE ANIMAL :
> free from pain, distress or serious discomfort which cannot be effectively controlled ?
> able to walk and balance reasonably well ?
> able to drink and eat enough for normal maintenance and without much difficulty and without vomitting ?
> free from tumours which cause pain or serious discomfort and are judged inoperable or otherwise treatable ?
> able to breathe without difficulty ?
> able to urinate and defecate resonably frequently or incontinence ?
AND IS THE OWNER :
> able to cope physically and emotionally with any nursing or meds that may be required ?
IF THE ANSWER to any of these is “no” and treatment is unlikely to help, then euthanasia might be the preferred action to take
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
LBJ – Whatever you do, if you have any doubt, please don’t regret that it was TOO late.
And – though it may sound cold – ask yourself what is the difference to Cash if she goes to sleep now or in a week ? Except maybe peace and no hidden pain.
I know you desperately don’t want to let go…. but….
Cash loves you and will not judge you – you have to be at peace with your decision.
Take care – sending a HUGE HUG from France and the worldwide BB community.
GJ: I did. Only one of the little pots I planted even sprouted, and even that was really anemic grass. The problem is that my flat has only north facing windows, so no direct sunlight equals woeful greens.
LBJ: I’ve avoided saying anything about your dear Cash because it’s the kind of situation that plays out with time, not advice. But I want you to know that my heart aches for you and that poor old doggy. *hugs* ((((((painless days and nights, Cash))))))
Poor ((Cash)).
Its a horrid decision to have to make
I am thinking it might actually of been because I was dehydrated (and I was so sick from it I wasn’t drinking). I’m feeling better today though. Today is my dad’s birthday. I made him one of those big “candy cards” that you make with a poster board. Like it’ll say “Being 00 isn’t something to *tape snickers bar here* about.” or “We wanted to get you something expensive but it wasn’t *place payday bar here*”. It’s cute.
(((((More vibes for cash)))))
@Q8bunny, thanks so much
It’s a shame that the shelter let the piggies go separately but I supposed when they’re faced with either adopting one, or neither for a long time you take what you can get. It sounds like you have things well planned out anyway, and I know Hagrid will have an awesome home.
Azerane, good job on the channel! I just subscribed. And, it was cool to see Bandit. He looked like such a sweet bunny.
And Cash ate a whole bowl of food just now! This is what I’m talking about. She has good days and bad days. I think the worst on bad days and then become more optimistic on good days. =\
Glad Cash had a better day, sending gentle vibes x

I think that’s one of my favourite things about it, that because of it I took so much film of Bandit that I may not have taken otherwise and it’s such a great way to remember him.
So now we’re back to being ravenous and full of energy. Cash was literally bouncing around with excitement when we got home. o_O
Azerane – Congrats on your YouTube fame!
OMG, it’s almost May! =O
Had to come back to say….
Happy 10,000th post to ME!!!! ![]()
They’ll have good days and bad days, just like humans as they age! The chihuahua we have has days where she just wants to sleep, other days she walks around a lot wagging her little tail. But, my grandmother has days she is sick and days she’s not. I figure it’s probably kinda the same. Just have to take it one day at a time with the elderly ones.
My dog had a tummy that one day now and again, she would not eat at all and her tummy would gurgle to its heart content and she would not have even been tempted by a steak!
When she was young it wasn’t a problem (its suposed to be good for dogs to fast for one day of the week as historically, dogs in the wild would not have food every day) – when she become older and ate less anyway I hated those days when she didn’t eat as she got weaker and weaker, and then the following day would eat like a horse !!!
LBJ – You will. One day. Just,… ‘know’. You will, I promise. ((( Cash )))
Today’s the last day of April. Man, where is the year going? Nearly half over.
Congrats on your post count LBJ. ![]()

I’m so excited
Once it’s May, it’s almost June. Then when it’s June there’s a good chance I’ll be adopting a new bunny
I cannot wait.
In other news, I collected a whole lot of seed from my basil plants today. I have more than enough to last me a long time, now I just have to wait until Spring to plant them. We have no room inside that gets enough sunlight to plant in pots, and the cooler weather kills basil over winter outside.
10,000 posts – good lord… I’m just approaching 600…. phewie !
Azerane– You must be so excited! ![]()
Azerane, that’s so awesome to hear! I’m happy for you, truly.
OMG, 10,000? o_O
LOL, now I’ll have to go back and edit my post on the previous page. That is the official post.
That’s great Azerane, we can’t wait. ![]()
I shouldn’t be posting in here because it’s techincally May now for me, but thanks everyone! I can’t wait and am so very excited. Although I think my husband is sick of hearing me talk about rabbits, lol. I know he’ll be happy to have a new bunny friend again though too ![]()
