In the big pet store by my house they sell something which is like drops and you rub it all over your rabbit and cage to prevent the rabbit from smelling.. my initial thought was ‘omg whats the point in having a pet you just want to cover up and forget is there?’ then i thought.. maybe it is more to do with keeping the coat clean which reduces smell rather than just trying to make the rabbit smell better anyone seen this or have any ideas?

Just to add i dont want to cover the smell of the rabbit (im not that house proud to be honest lol) but if it will be any help to him by improving his coat then i would buy it so anyone use this?

And also my bunny had poopy butt from some basil the other day which didnt agree with him! and now he has a kinda brownish mark down his bum.. should i bath him? and if so do i just use small animal shampoo from a store in a small amount of water in the sink? (he is only 1.3lbs)

        Thanks!

just thought i would add a pic for the hell of it hehe

rabbits are very clean animals.  if fed and cared for properly they shouldn’t smell that offensive.  your rabbit should have no problem keeping his coat in top shape.

as far as the poopy butt, you can do a small butt bath, almost like a spot cleaning.

i think there’s info at the top, let me see…

edited:  well… i don’t see anything about bunny shampoos on HRS.  just that baths are strongly discouraged.  i would try to just use regular water on the poopy butt and make sure to let bunny dry thoroughly.

any other ideas from folks who’ve had to do butt baths?

i’d be more worried you’d put it on and he’d try and groom it off.  maybe it’s designed for show bunnies?

ok i have found a similar one this one isnt the same brand but it is the same idea
                    http://www.bunnybasics.net/animal-deodorising-spray-p-285.html
it says ‘ This unique spray neutralises not masks unfriendly odours. Also acts to revitalise coat. ‘

so i was wondering because when i got him his fur was abit matted and is still really fine and dry and doesnt look to healthy although i have checked his skin which is fine, when i took him for a check up at the vet he said it was just because he hadnt been brushed and i just needed to keep grooming him but he didnt need any treatment for it just some TLC so i was just wondering might this help to make the coat better? and if not does anyone know anything which may help?

If the coat is dry it is usually the “dead” fur that needs to be brushed out. I’m really skeptical about using anything like that as it will end up in the GI tract.

hmm, I don’t know anything about this product either. It is hard work keeping long haired bunnies groomed – well lionheads are kinda long haired
this article may help give you some grooming tips: http://www.mybunny.org/info/groom_long_haired.htm
