After endless trips to the vet, my little bunny was diagnosed with rabbit mange, and was given an ivermectin injection between his shoulder blades. He is due for another one in 2 weeks time. I was also given sulphur ointment to apply to his sore areas (paws, tips of ears, etc), and I hope to see results soon.

How long will it take before I start seeing noticeable improvement, or lack thereof? The crusts on his body seem to be the same, so I don’t know whether it’s too early for me to notice or if the injection didn’t work at all.

        Note:he got the injection yesterday

        Help please??

Once established long enough to cause visible mange, it will take a while for you to see an improvement. The ivermectin injection will kill the existing mites quickly, but the skin has been damaged and needs to heal. The follow-up injection will ensure that any new mites that might have hatched after the initial injection are also eradicated.

My bun was in exactly the same situation when I adopted him at three months old. He ended up getting a round of three injections (his mange was awful, poor darling) and I didn’t see proper healing until nearly a month after his first treatment.

Since, I have been preventively using at home spot treatment (Revolution / Stronghold) once a month for the nice weather months when he goes outside, and less frequently the rest of the year.

Hang in there… It’ll clear up.
