Gerbils? I have two which live in a large tank (it was meant to be for fish because the tanks which are meant for gerbils were almost twice the price because they are ‘specialist’ and as they were the same i went with the fish tank) anyway has anyone had or does anyone have any gerbils? The reason i ask is that i have found it very difficult to find information on them, i dont know what to give them food wise or anything, they have their premium gerbil food and sunflower seeds (although sparingly) and they live on a bed of sawdust with a pot of chinchilla sand in the corner for them to bathe in. However i dont know what they can eat such as.. can they have parsley? grass? anything fresh? also some old woman told me that she used to use dry compost as a bedding because they enjoy it much more than regular sawdust.. any ideas anyone?

Cute pics! Well gerbils first of all should not be kept in saw dust, cedar, pine etc. Aspen, yesterdays news, and carefresh are way better! The dust hurts their eyes and makes it hard to breath. Here are some good websties to go to:

http://www.agsgerbils.org/Breeders.html (breeders might be able to help with questions)

          http://www.agsgerbils.org/Gerbil_Care_Handbook/index.php

          http://www.twinsqueaks.com/guide.php

          http://www.abcgerbils.com/care.html

          Hope these links help!

We had Gerbils when I was a kid. But, I don’t really remember much about what they ate.

            Cute critters you got there!
