I am just interested to know if anyone else here has a biting/spraying bunny … particularly a bun you have had for 12 months or more.

Would be nice to chat to someone else … as I am so frustrated with Luey!

        Dawn xx

Not me, my lot are good. It makes me laugh when the pellets and veggies come out they nearly kill each other to get to me, it’s like me first b***er the rest of them.

Kibou, my female Lionhead, is a royal biotch. She lunges, bites, swipes, boxes, sprays pee, …..
Rye and Yuuki (my 2 males) have recently begun spraying. Lurvely.

My little Ella is a monster on a good day. She is so aggressive, when we first got her, we had to use oven mitts to handle her! It’s due in part to her being a netherland dwarf and also because of an abusive previous home. But no matter how aggressive she is, we love her! Just the way she is.

Thank goodness she doesn’t spray though!

Do you have other rabbits Sarita?   Has Pepe always been aggressive?

How does everyone cope with their Monsters!  Luey can turn in an instant … with no warning … except I do know when he is going to spray he starts wagging his tail.  The biting is out of the blue … one minute I can be petting him, next thing he has bit me.

oohhh LL that must be tough too … Does it frustrate you? Are your buns Lops?  Is it a Lop thing or ???? .  And now your male guys are spraying …. eewwww I definitely hate the spraying.  Didn’t you have a post up with you holding one of your buns  I could not pick up Luey in a fit.

I honestly don’t think Luey will change … but even though I love him to bits and would never give him up … it dam makes my blood boil.

Can any changes be made to curb the biting issues … what does everyone else do … lock bunny away or ????

I usually go away and have a hissy fit.

I should get Dave to help you hear, he trained my little lionhead not to bite him…She still bites me though! I think everytime she bit him he pushed her head down into submission and would not let her up. Then he’d put his finger in front of her mouth or under her chin to provoke her to bite, and follow up with pushing her into submission if she bit. She will NOT bite him now, no matter what. If we switch his finger for mine, chomp!! Bugger knows who she can and can’t bite!!

                    Is luey altered?

I’ve used this method before as well.

Some bunnies are aggressive and will bite, but for a lot of bunnies, nipping is just their chosen form of communication. If a rabbit nips you, it’s because he wants something – your attention, your breakfast, your pats, etc. What you need to do it teach them that you are the dominant bunn. not them. Whenever he nips you, place your hand on top of his head and shoulders and press it firmly but gently to the ground. Hold for a count of 5 seconds with a stern “NO”. This will tell the bunny that you are in charge. Repeat this every time he nips and hopefully, he will pick up on it fast and begin choosing other ways of communicating, like nudging, touching with his paws, or even periscoping.

Now with that said, I do have a very aggressive little bunny who, even though she has improved greatly, still nips me from time to time. It’s just something I’ve come to accept about her charming personality! Good luck with Luey!

I have alot of other rabbits. Pepe has always been aggressive. He is a stray that one of my previous adopters found. If I had a puppy pen to put him in instead of a condo, I think that would help – he lunges at me when I feed him or do anything in his cage which is why I think an x-pen is a better option for him. My other rabbit Jingles was aggressive too – still is a little but putting him in a pen has helped with the lunging.

I’ve tried pushing the head down method and I’m sure if I was consistent that might help – my problem is that I’ve just accepted this is how he is and work around him to get him fed and his area cleaned. Probably not the best thing to do. I’ve tried the clicker training but didn’t keep that up. I think it takes alot of time and patience and one-on-one work – I have the patience just not the time to work with him.

KK… yes Luey is neutured, sometimes I wonder though!

I have been doing the push down on his head/shoulders … I know he hates it because he tries to ark his head up … at times when I have taken my hand away and he has had a go at my hand … dam, sometimes he gets me.

I had intentions last night of spending some floor time with him but after his persistence in biting my ankles I put him away … I just was not in the mood for him!

Nips MMM ….  no Luey BITES.

I will endeavour to have him out with me over the weekend.

                            Thanks Ladies for sharing.
