The “Thrianta“
A striking species of rabbit, the Thrianta is a beautifully colored rabbit brimming with personality that should make an excellent pet or show animal.
Thrianta Rabbits are known for being energetic and inquisitive rabbits that are beautifully colored and a joy to have in your home. They are very popular among breeders, mostly for their coat. First introduced in the late 1930’s when a Dutch breeder named Mr. Andrea bred them from three other rabbits, a Papillion, a Tan, and a Havana, the lovely Thrianta was a novelty. The Thrianta is a very popular breed and appears regularly at many shows – you can see at least a few of them at any local show, particularly in Great Britain where they are more popular than other places. As for keeping as a pet, the Thrianta is a wonderful pet. They can live easily in typical rabbit enclosures and their personalities really shine through when being kept as pets. They are kind, curious little rabbits that enjoy the company of humans and will find a happy home in yours. The Thrianta is known for its great temperament. Personality goes a long way when deciding on a pet. If you are thinking about getting a rabbit, consider a Thrianta. If you want a gentle rabbit, you are essentially guaranteed one with the Thrianta; they will enjoy your company as much as you enjoy theirs. Diet consists of the usual Rabbit food; fresh fruits and vegetables and a nutritionally balanced pellet rabbit feed. Overall, the Thrianta is a kind, exciting rabbit that will make a great pet for anyone interested in rabbits or breeders looking to find a suitable showpiece.
The Thrianta is a medium sized rabbit, which weighs between four and a half and six pounds. They have small bodies and very heavy tan fur coats, which are splashed with their trademark orange color, really setting them apart from other rabbits. They keep their heads back and their ears straight.

Oh, gorgeous!!!!!
I’ve heard of them but never seen one or if I ‘ve seen one I had no idea what it was.
I love the orange color and what pretty babies.
It’s the second newest breed
The new breeds are lionheads (not so new) Thriantas and Plush rabbits (they look like poodles)

Cool huh?
Plush are so new, you are only allowed to adopt neutered males; Breeders are the only ones getting them right now.
very cute! nope never heard of that but i’m not very versed in rabbit breeds, besides the obvious.
i think in this day and age actual breeds are so diluted from over/cross-breeding that it’s tough to know exactly what you’re getting. i prefer adoption anyways…
Ooooh, the orangey bunnies!!!! I’ve read about them and seen pics but never a real one.
I have heard of Thriantas they sure are beautiful. Haven’t heard of the plush til now though. I may go look into that.
I have read about them when I was reading about bunnies and tri-colors. Thriantas are one of the breeds that are bred into other lines to introduce that color, and I think that is how they can get some of the tri-colors started in other breeds. Which to me is kinda weird- because if you do that in a dog- no further lines are pedigreed from that mix. But it seems like in bunnies that they introduce the color and then work back to the breed standard plus that color- and they are still pedigreed. In a way it makes sense- but on the other hand my experience with dogs made me do a double take.![]()
But bunnies are not bred with particular abilities like tracking, retrieving, speed, etc- so maybe that is why there is more leniency is creating beautiful bunnies????
I actually posed a similar question here a while back. I think they look stunning!
I want 30.
Oh geez – plush lops – the name implies a stuffed animal which I do not like.
What’s wrong with the current breeds we have? It’s starting to get ridiculous with all the designer animals out there.
Okay rant over :~)
Did you ever wonder if some of these breeds come about because of OOPS litters? Someones cage door got open one night and then you have these mixed breed babies…..lol.
I saw an ad on petfinder that listed a “wolfhound/miniature poodle” mix? Beside the first thought of how the heck they accomplished that in the first place that was one wierd looking dog.
ohhh what a beautiful color ^_^ I’ll take 4!
It’s interesting that you guys call them plush rabbits. Here they’re called velvet lops.

They’re really gorgeous and don’t moult so are great for allergy sufferers.
OH nice the plush lops are cute. Rex coat ahhh. There is a rare breed too that has curly coat. I forget what that is called. Or is it a cat. Gosh I hope I am not THAT confused.
Nice lops so soft ohhhh. Honey Bun think you could trade in your coat for a plush one? What HB???? Oh you can’t take off your coat Oh ok sorry HB Well we will just leave it be then ok.
There is a curly coated rabbit called the Astrex. I wasn’t off in lala land after all.
