for the past 2 weeks,Chance has been peeing over her litter box.i bought a bigger, taller one 3 days ago and she still goes over it.she’s been good with her litter box habits.this is the only problem i have of her.her pee stinks so bad and i just cant tolerate it any longer.it gets tiring that i have to clean her flooring everytime.

i checked the HRS website and they recommend a covered/hooded litterbox.does any of your bunbuns use it??is it effective??the last thing i want is her not going in her litterbox.that’s gonna be worse.

I use one as a secondary box tucked away in the living room. Both buns use it fine. Jersey even used it a long time ago when the flap was still attached. That broke so I just have it without which I think they probably prefer anyway. One thing with these boxes it it does limit their vision while in them and limits them to one access/exit.  Are you sure she’s peeing over the edge while in the box or could she be peeing beside it when you don’t see?

You could try something like this one. (Modelled by BB’s bridge bunny Bailey)

I use one… as a digging box LOL, no one really uses it though. It dosn’t have a flap/door or anything.
What kind of litter are you useing? That may be the issue about smell. I use Pine Pellet litter and don’t have an issue with smell. But when i used carefresh or shavings, uuggh it drove me crazy (plus shavings get tracked everywhere).

I like using covered litterboxes, I just use pet taxis for this purpose. I like that they keep the litter contained well, and odors too. I don’t use them anymore because of bonding, I need so many boxes that the covered ones are too bulky and in my way. I might go back to them at some point.

Sometimes the bunny is trying to tell you something. Sammy would kick her litter outside the box because she didn’t like the brand. You might try a different kind, changing the texture from soft like carefresh to more solid lke feline or aspen pine pellets (or vice versa) to see if it’s making him go on the floor.
Also, have you slid the box over the spot where the pee is landing? There may be something unpleasant about where it’s located that he’s objecting to. Otherwise, the covered litter box might do the trick.

Mine never used the covered litter box, so I took it apart and used the bottom as a litter box and the top as a fort I use taller pans and that works well for us

jerseygirl,i seen her back up way too much that her pee went over the box.i dont know though if she pees beside it when were asleep or away.

Andi,i use Feline Pine.i really wanted to try woodstove pellets but we dont have it here this season.i dont have a problem qith the litter.it just starts to stink because of the pee outside her box.

Pam,i’ll try to put some carefresh on top of her Feline Pine and see if that works.i just cant afford to use all carefresh because Chance pees a lot and carefresh dont really do good at odor control.plus its expensive.

                    hopefully she’s just being hormonal.

They have special litter pans for rabbits and other small animals that have a higher back and two higher sides but a lower front so the bunny can still get in them. Here’s an example:

You can find them online easily… They solved the issue when my bunny was peeing over the side of his litter box.
