I am thinking about switching both my buns from alfalfa pellets to timothy pellets. Any tips? I know it’s supposed to be done gradually, but how gradually? I can’t seem to find any info on this.

I’m not 100% certain of how to gradually do this. I have been using only timmy pellets for a long time but don’t be surprised if bunny snubs the timmy pellets to start with – I hear this from alot of rabbit owners who make the switch. Which leads me to wonder if you should even try to mix them and not just switch them all together. So I’m wondering if perhaps you could just try offering the timmy at a certain time and then later offer the alfalfa. I don’t see any info on this either at Oxbow or American Pet Diner.

I would imagine most likely though (depending on how much you feed them) that it would be a 1/4 of the amount to start with.

The method I follow is from the bag of Oxbow BBT that I feed my two and it has a 4 week transition:

Week 1: Mix 1/4 new food with 3/4 of the old

Week 2: Mix 1/2 new food with 1/2 of the old

Week 3: Mix 3/4 new food with 1/4 of the old

Week 4: Feed just new food.
