Hello everyone, my mini rex Dobo ended up having to go on antibiotics and two questions

        1. It says to give every 12 hours however with my work schedule thats nearly impossible to do exactly 12. Is giving an hour or two late/early alright?

        2. Do you recommend probiotics following up after antibiotic treatment? If so what? My vet said it was entirely optional

          1. Yes, 1-2 hour deviation is typically OK!
          2. Probiotics after antibiotics is not required. It can have no to some benefit, depending on the rabbit. If your rabbit is having severe gastric distress after an antibiotic, I would strongly suggest changing medication, rather than a probiotic. Probiotics people commonly use are Benebac, though there is contention that the probiotics commonly advertised for rabbits (like Benebac) don’t actually work as probiotics because they don’t actually have what a rabbit’s normal gut biome has. Whatever probiotic organisms the item has may die or not really flourish at all once in the rabbit’s stomach. Again, they don’t do harm, but whether they actually have “probiotic” effects is questioned. Some people do report their rabbits tolerate medication better with probiotics.

I agree with what Wick said. A little deviation is OK and, no, probiotics are not required. I’ve personally never used them for any of my rabbits.
